Should PD give us the option to fill the grid with A.I. cars?

  • Yes. Lets have a full grid if possible. Sounds like Big fun.

Yes, we know the A.I. in GT5 was a bit lacking (cough!). But for Kaz's sake let's just say that it is improved for GT6 and at least brought up to some sort of 'fair' or 'decent' level..

Would you want the option to fill the grid with A.I. when you're racing your mates in split-screen, or online?

If you wish for this not to be an option, please explain your logic and remember- we're supposing that the A.I. will be improved here for GT6.
(trust me, nobody is more cognizant of their deficiencies than me, as I race 95% offline against these clowns )

Should PD add such an option? Have you anything to add to this idea to make it even better?

:gtpflag:

Yep, sure do! Having the option to choose our starting position (or to qualify) would be nice, as would choosing what cars the AI get (& their starting positions if not qualifying). This would be good for all racing in GT5, both online & offline.

well, thats Event Creator stuff. (which we all know I'm obsessed with)

Lets talk about the specifics of adding A.I. to Split-screen and online races here, Mr. VBR. You scoundrel.

I suspect that mixing Ai drivers in online races will have to wait for the PS4 when they have enough ram for the code involved.

I blame most shortcomings of GT5 on that pathetic RAM Sony decided upon in the machine... That same RAM shortage will be why many things we want will have to wait...

I'm not a techie and I'm sure one of the more tech savvy members would know, but I would say the same thing, that the PS3 just doesn't have the horsepower to do this, or if it does, it'll be stretching the resources so far, something else will have to suffer.

Forza 4 has the ability to fill the grid with AI in online races. But, as you alluded to, I have no idea what was sacrificed to acheive this. You would think it would have to be less taxing to run say 10 AI than 10 online players (eg offline stability vs online)

I don't know, but the AI are so uncompetitive I don't see the point of including them to begin with. If they could actually keep up on the track, brake and corner at realistic speeds maybe.

That's probably the more important point - if the AI don't improve dramatically, what's the point in any form of AI based racing?

Yep blame the hard ware, when I can see tons of games with amazing AI..

Yes, when people start dropping like flies if they are not first into turn one. Or a dirty driver causes people ro leave the room. At least you can still have AI on the track to finish the race, if you choose.

GRID 2 also had this and they were pretty competitive. However, I wouldn't want it in GT6 unless we can choose what cars they drive.

Frogmanlego you are correct- but how many of those fill online grids with that A.I.? (Many racing games have full grids for offline split-screen, though- and its a rip of a time)

dmcallis brings up a good question though. Anyone know some racing titles from the last 10 years which fill online grids?

EDIT: Dino, does grid2 do this for online, or just split-screen? I agree about the choosing opponents, for sure.

It will fill all empty places online, as long as you have the option on for the lobby. Splitscreen always has AI.

No. I like knowing every car online has a real person driving

So no to the option, then? Even if it's clearly labeled in the lobby that this is ON/OFF? We're not restricting you from having a 16-car grid of human opponents...

I'd like 100% of lobbies to be free of bots so I have more choices.

voted "No" as I'd rather have human opponents only online. If I want to race against AI bots, I'll race Arcade mode.

Just one thing I'd like though is a kind of co-op in A-spec mode, where you can form a team with someone from your friends list.

So it's rather the opposite from what was in the poll :P . I'd not like to see bots in online races, but I'd like to invite PSN friends to join an A-spec race.

I know Superstars of V8 Racing, & Superstars of V8 Next Challenge, by Milestone had this option.

See here: http://us.playstation.com/games/superstars-v8-racing-ps3.html

I still have both and going from memory, as it's been a few years since I've played them, the AI was actually quite competitive compared to GT5's tail dragging bots. But I didn't consider the option to be very useful. Considering that most racing games on the PS3 only allow up to 16 players, filling the lobby with competitive players never seemed to be a problem, unless it was just spur of the moment action. If you're looking to have a serious race, having bots in the way can be a bit aggravating. And we saw during the races were the live human players were just knocking the annoying AI out of the way as they were simply disruptive to the race.
