Yep would've bought it. I had a fair idea that there would be some serious bugs at release. The few delays, and hints about not to letting your expectations get too high from some WMD members were a pretty clear signal of how the game would be. I'm on console & have had some irritating bugs, but not so much that I wouldn't play or keep buying the DLC that comes out. It is a shame that so many are getting so frustrated though.

I still wouldn't have bought it even if it was completely perfect. The talk of all the bugs on the console versions shows how overhyped it was by all those desperate people who said it would be the greatest racing game ever.

I would've probably wanted a slight discount.
Yea, just get it on release. I don't understand why people still preorder games. Can't think of the last time there was a shortage.
Actually one should wait a little after launch. I read a bunch of reviews before I bought it for full price and none mentioned how encompassing the bugs were. Maybe they didn't play it enough (the horror)! so next time there will be no trusting site-reviews and I'll wait for sufficient user reviews and comments before I buy it.

Can you send me the link?

I heard that Ian, while sometimes help, but most of his replies to the question to problems are either unhelpful one liners, "snark british humour", and general take that to the questioners themselves. I saw these at pcars forums by myself.

Not to put a flame here.
That thread has nothing on some previous threads i have seen. The guy is rude and trigger happy with the banhammer. What is worst was the petty, condescending replies i read back in June. I don't know if he is still like that now. I don't think there are any critics of the game who are left on the official forum.

The scripted weather in career is a joke. The AI bugs are also annoying but I would still buy the game. I still think it is streets ahead of forza, and i used to be a big forza fan, mainly forza 2.

He behaves like a child and gets back slapped with 100s of "likes". If I was the owner of SMS I would ban him from the forum. He seems to forget he's going to be selling another game in a couple of years time to these same customers.

He's not your average corporate figure that's all. Maybe he was a tad harsh banning some folk who were overly negative, but if you have a sense of sarcasm and where he's coming from you can understand his motives.

I prefer his transparency and honesty over that of a head of studio that only opens his mouth once in a while to do some pre release PR talk.

I don't mind when he is a bit sarcastic occasionally, that's fine. The trouble is he takes even totally innocuous questions, suggestions or ideas and takes them as a personal insult. Then people get upset at his responses and they get banned.

The PCars forum is like some horrendous feudal kingdom where you get exiled for disrespecting the feudal lord or his lieutenants (moderators). The mods & Ian Bell seem to see all the users (customers) as adversaries and respond accordingly.

Thank GTPlanet for the civilised AUP and principled mods we enjoy here! I wouldn't dream of posting an opinion on pcars forum.

Honestly I think they are as bad as each other!

That's a bit of an exaggeration mr_serious, yours truly has 800 posts over there already speaking his mind, and i didn't run into any trouble. You are able to post negative things about the game as long as they are posted in a respectful and constructive manner. As a forum GTP is still my favorite too, but that doesn't mean the PCARS forum is run in an amateurish way nor that SMS silence people at random.

[edit] forgot to reply to @mister dog d'oh!

Maybe it is just bad luck that I always end up reading threads where a poster is threatened with a ban for being disrespectful, when in my opinion they were being perfectly rational, objective and not insulting at all.

I spent half an hour reading the PCars forum earlier this afternoon and was actually going to post what I wrote above in the PCars whining & crying thread! I just didn't get around to it. I guess it was still knocking around my head!

There is history here though. Mr Bell was all charm and transparency on the Shift 2 forums until they released it.

There's saying nothing after release and then there's mocking frustrated customers. Two extremes IMO

I voted Yes...but mainly because I have no self control when it comes to buying games
Now matter how good or bad the reviews, I would've had to try it for myself to see if everyone was right (or wrong).

Now if my sensible side ruled my game purchases it would've been a No, not because of the bugs and crashes etc, but simply and only because there is no proper triple monitor support ! I can live with bugs etc...I can't live without triple monitor support

I purchased Pcars on release, played it for a day, now it sits in storage until triple monitor support is properly implemented. I don't regret my decision at all, in fact may work in my favor, because when triple support is introduced a lot of the bugs will probably also be addressed by then.

I find the poll results very surprising, especially since it includes the caveat of, "If you knew back then what you know now". Even with the benefit of hindsight, 3/4 of the people polled would still buy the game. That's refreshingly positive IMO.

Pcars forum is a mixed bag. Some wmd members and mods do know how to communicate properly and try to help out and inform but there are a fair few that don't. Those stand out because of it so that doubles the feeling of cultists around. Especially when Ian writes **** like "here's us not supporting project cars" when the 2.0 patch came out like it was an achievement to patch his broken game and crap on the critics at the same time. And massive amounts of backslaps for that terrible statement followed. Unbelievable. I wonder who these people are. If I had a "leader" like that I would be ashamed.

To me it seems better to buy something once it is done and probably get a discount as well. It also sends a message to the maker that I don't buy just anything for full price. Meaning I would have felt regret in your situation.

Well i waited in the end for patch 2.0 on xbox then purchased limited edition for £25..... had i of preordered at £50 or whatever and spent last couple of months playing a totally bust game i'd be still gutted, but coming at it after patch 2.0 and at half price is clearly meaning i'm a very happy bunny with this game..

The reason developers these days can get away with half finished games and rush them put for release is because of how gamers are these days with pre orders etc, we let them do this to us..... the game people dumped back as trade ins being sold for £25 are not the same games that the savvy are picking up after the patches.....

For £25 its worth it alone for the renault clios which are sublime..not really touched any other cars yet.

The only mistake those people made was believing that the console versions were of the same level of quality/refinement as the PC version (as nobody had properly seen/played a console version until release). Which was obviously not the case.

Yes, because of:
  • No need to grind for Cars
  • Big variety in career spanning multiple racing classes
  • Open communication with the community
People are not used to the last point, so sometimes this leads to nasty arguments. But it's getting better recently.
Was only into GT before and can not remember that I had any communication with them or feedback on bugs.

Regarding bugs: yes, there were and still are bugs in the game. But I still believe the things will get sorted out over Summer.

No, the game is broken on Xbox One, the handling is not a big departure from Shift games and the tracks look like garbage.

I would like to see less bugs, but I'm confident they will all be fixed sooner or later (I can imagine it being a lot of work).
For some reason, only a few from the known bugs seem to affect the game for me...

In the meantime (I'm on PS4) I'm having loads of fun. And by the look of it (recently found a list of all races and Championships I still need to enter) this game will keep me busy for several years, no doubt.

Best racing game I ever played (yes, even better than TOCA).
Graphics are great, weather is sublime, cars are great to drive, AI is ten times better than GT's (though there is still room for improvement), sounds are really nice, FFB may be a bit too complicated (for me), but I got it pretty much nailed.

I just had my best (sim)race ever in the Audi A1 at Oulton Park (10 laps).
The little car (my wife has one, be it not the Quattro) is so close to the real thing... amazing.

Would I have bought the game: YES 👍

I don't know if he is still like that now. I don't think there are any whiney, childish, non-constructive critics of the game who are left on the official forum.

I, for one, find it a bit refreshing to see someone who actually speaks his mind instead of just delivering some politically correct statement that gives no real info. I also know sarcasm when I see it, which apparently a lot of people are blind to. If I had to deal with the kind of nonsense and vitriol seen on that forum, I'd probably respond in the same way he does. In fact, I do it every day at work when I have to deal with the children salesmen here.

Oh, and I fixed your post for you. :sly: Critics who present their issues in a civilized, productive manner don't only avoid the banhammer, they often get engaged in constructive dialogue which has already helped fix some of the issues with the game. It's amazing what can be achieved when you behave like a rational person instead of having a fit and tossing your toys from the pram. 👍

If it's worth £25 for a single car, how could it not be worth £50 for the whole shooting match?

Can't agree more. While I think that Ian could have been a little less brusque in dealing with some of the trolls and simply banned them instead of responding and making a show of it, I really appreciate that all the political correctness is absent from the forum and he just shoots from the hip. I don't have to agree with everything he says or does to like the guy or appreciate what he's doing.

I would have done that if I realized that this game was just a Project. In my opinion, this game is still in an early Beta phase. There are a lot of bugs, and parts of the career mode look like they were just strung together to give us something to do. Project CARS isn't even fully completed and they announce Project CARS 2? What has SMS become Activision?

And I have to pay for the DLC? You give me an incomplete Beta game for 60 dollars, and all I get is 65 cars and 30 tracks? I would rather pay 60 dollars for 1000+ cars and 25+ tracks and a decent career mode with decent handling and physics.(would be referring to GT7).

Its not just paying for the DLC, its the fact that they passed 1 million sales, which means they made at least $60 million, which means they should have at the very least $5 million for licensing, hiring more people so they don't spend 10 years modeling one car, etc...so what I'm saying is that with all the sales they made, they should have more free DLC.

But at this point it really doesn't matter. I already declared myself enslaved to them and have already given $70 to SMS, and plan on buying all the future DLC. And it's not like the Mods at the PCARS forum actually want constructive criticism...
