Which industries should be in state ownership?

I therefore voted accordingly, only checking the "Other" box.

These seem contradictory. If nothing should be owned by the state and that the state should not exist, why click other? That is still an admission of things that should be owned by the state, just not the ones I listed in the poll. Other is for other industries not listed such as the timber industry, or bars and restaurants. The ones listed are the ones I felt were most common or most commonly discussed.

Judging by 'nothing' being owned by the state, it seems that abstaining from voting would have best reflected your position, which is certainly an interesting one. As Keef brought up in his post, may I ask what is different between anarchic syndicalism and communism?

It's not his fault that you forgot to include the "nothing" option. I fixed it.

As for "anarchic syndicalism" or any of the other wacko left-libertarian ideologies: the only difference between those and communism is that they don't have the violent, murderous, repressive power of the total state to stick around for more than a few months before people opt out. Any sort of system that subverts markets and the information they provide (prices) is destined for failure.

I did choose buses.

Airlines aren't necessary for people to get to work unless you have a meeting abroad so I think it is fine to leave that to the market.
I am what is known as a market socialist. I believe in a capitalist market but a lot of government intervention.

Yes I know what you are going to say. The nationalised stuff has delays. Not if it is done right. The Japanese train service is nationalised (mostly) and always on time.

This is so hilarious to me. Transportation is necessary for me to get where I need to go in a timely manner. That's precisely why I leave that to the market.

Thanks for that correction. 👍

You and the other American members have already raised the excellent point regarding airlines. In countries as large as the United States or Canada where main metropolitan areas can be thousands of miles apart, aeroplanes are a necessary travel option and not a 'luxury'.

Even then, it still seems arbitrary to nationalise one kind of transport but not another.

Yes, and it's also arbitrary to nationalize one industry but not another.

Would you oblige as to why you yourself have voted for nothing? Not even police, military or prisons, which seemed to be universal within this poll. Does this extend to the courts themselves?

Yes.

You can watch this whole thing for an introduction, or at least the gist of an alternative.

Excerpts on topics you mentioned:

Just watch the whole thing if you have an hour to spare.

If I could weigh in on Japan's train system for a moment. Top Gear, for what it's worth, in the race between the GT-R and the bullet train, once said that if the trains were even five minutes off departure time, everyone on the train would be given excuse notes telling their employer why they were late to work. Now granted, in the race, Jeremy only won by a minute or two because he was speeding through Japan's motorways.

As for myself, I am a constitutionalist(or whatever you pegged me down as by now). I voted Military, Fire, Police and Prisons.
