The Internatonal Race of Champions is an American racing competition and is a test of pure driver ability, with all drivers using identically prepared cars, set up by a single team of mechanics. The series was created in 1972 and the first event took place over 1973 & 1974 with Mark Donohue winning the first ever event and was the last event he ever won, as he died in the 1975 Austrian Grand Prix. For the inaugural season, Porsche 911 Carrera RSR's were used and the only IROC series to race entirely on road courses. The first season had 3 races at Riverside in 1973 with a final race at Daytona in 1974, with Mark Donohue winning 3 out of the 4 races. The Porsche's used were almost identical to Carrera RSR's with the only differences being a 3.0 Engine instead of a 2.7 and a flat "Whale Tail" instead of a ducktail spoiler.
