(from Eterniti Press Release) ETERNITI LAUNCHES WORLD’S FIRST SUPER-SUV IN BEIJING

Eterniti Motors, the London-based boutique luxury carmaker, today unveils the engineering prototype of its first car at Beijing’s Auto China 2012 international motor show.

The vehicles on display are in-use, running prototypes so do not represent the final finish quality but do closely reflect the definitive interior and exterior styling.

The car, named Artemis, is the world’s first Super-SUV - a term created by Eterniti for a new class of vehicle providing the higher levels of luxury, performance and exclusivity demanded by today’s wealthy car buyers but which have not been available until now.

The car will be in production by summer 2012, beating Bentley, Lamborghini and Maserati’s luxury SUV offerings to market. Orders can be taken now through Eterniti’s sales operations in Europe (London) and Asia-Pacific (Hong Kong and Taipei), for deliveries starting in autumn 2012.

The car has a limousine-like rear cabin featuring up to 100mm of additional legroom, twin reclining rear seats with heating and cooling, iPad-ready holders with electronic reveal, and a drinks chiller. This satisfies a specific need, particularly in Asian markets, for a car suitable for both being chauffeured in and driving for pleasure. Unlike a conventional limousine, an SUV can offer excellent handling and driver appeal, and the ride height and ruggedness are suitable for poor road surfaces which can make limousines and conventional high-performance cars completely impractical. The Artemis is the ultimate crossover.

The interior is lavishly handcrafted, with a specification also including the finest leathers, quilted undercarpets and boot trim, lambswool rugs, veneers including natural woods, piano black and carbon fibre, a choice of sunroofs and starlight roof lining, and a state-of-the-art audio system.

The body panels are carbon composite and hand-built, and finished in a large choice of paint colours, complemented by different chrome trim styles. Ultra-low profile 315/25 tyres sit on dedicated 23” super-lightweight forged alloy rims in a variety of styles.

The 4.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine produces over 600bhp (441kW) and 750Nm (553 lb ft) torque, can accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.5 secs and can exceed 290kph. Performance and handling have been developed by a race-bred British engineering team led by Alastair Macqueen. Macqueen previously developed to production the Jaguar XJ220, then the world’s fastest road car, and has engineered three outright Le Mans 24 Hour race wins for Jaguar and Bentley.

The car has been test-driven by F1 Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert, who will play an ongoing role in product development as well as being an ambassador for the brand.

With a similar specification to the Beijing show vehicles the Eterniti Artemis is priced at the local currency equivalent of £210,000 plus local taxes in all markets except China, which will have a unique pricing strategy. A fully bespoke service will also be offered for customers wanting complete personalisation.

Eterniti is establishing a network of wholly-owned showrooms in key centres. Its London headquarters also has an atelier and a build facility where vehicles can be created and hand-built on-site to any specification. The facilities will be completed by July, followed later in the year by Eterniti-owned showrooms in Taipei and Hong Kong, which will serve as the company’s Asia-Pacific hub, with Tokyo following next year. The company is actively looking for retail partners to develop representation in China during 2013.

Cars will be covered by a full two-year, 100,000-mile warranty including servicing, and UK customers will have access to finance and insurance.

Background

Eterniti was started in 2010 to help satisfy a growing demand for additional luxury and personalised specifications among wealthy car buyers, particularly in major cities, global wealth centres and emerging markets ranging from London to the Asia-Pacific region. Uniquely, it is located in London and builds its vehicles there.

Although Eterniti is basing its business case around meeting market needs, its people have a passion for cars. The team has extensive experience in retailing some of the most prestigious British and European luxury and high-performance car brands, including Aston Martin, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Ferrari, in markets from the UK to Asia-Pacific. It has further experience in motor sport, with an FIA championship-winning record in GT series in both Europe and Asia.

Who ever said that the Cayenne was the best SUV? The V8 is a miserable piece of engineering failure.

And back ontopic. It looks hideous.

I should have said fastest, and yes I do think this car isn't really the best looking SUV I've seen.

It's just a "blinged" version of a normal Cayenne. The initial design sketches and the actual production model make it look very similar to a Cayenne so that's how I see it. A bit like a Mansory special edition. Expensive, exclusive and hideous.

That's the offspring of a Porsche Cayenne, a Chevrolet Sonic and the hood of a Ferrari California. All great cars on their own, terrible when mixed together like this. :yuck:

That's a pretty legit summary, because it's what I first thought of it as well. 👍

It looks like a catfish. :scared:
Even if it is faster than a Cayenne, does anyone really care? Boutique vehicles like this one never really sell well. I'd much rather have a Range Rover Supercharged. 👍

To me, it resembles more of a hatchback than an SUV :dunce:

It just looks like a giant hatchback...

Looks like a Cayenne with a Jaguar grill.

Just exactly what I thought when I first looked at it. The front is just Jaguar, too much. The side is obviously look like a Cayenne and from that angle, a giant hatchback.

Will it sell like a Cayenne? I doubt it. I'll be surprised to death if it does!

This.

And I'm surprised that people are saying it won't sell. Have you forgotten that places like Russia and China exist? Or companies like Mansory?

There's your sales right there. May be hideous, but people will pay lots of money for hideous stuff.

Yeah that's true there's a lot of silly people with too much money in this world

I disagree. There may be rich idiots out there, but I can guarantee you that those rich idiots want a prestigious car, like a Range Rover or the upcoming Lamborghini SUV. Now, I could be wrong, maybe this thing will become trendy or something, but still, it's more likely that the current offerings will continue to eat up all the sales of this niche.

But this is nothing more than a modified Cayenne. No different to things like a Gemballa Cayenne. It's still prestigious since it's based on the Porsche, but the added bling sets it apart from the rest and appeals to those with more money than taste. There are plenty of folk like that in places such as Russia and China.

Is this a stand alone model or a re-bodied Cayenne?

If the latter, then it's just a tuner special, and I'm sure any number of tuning houses could get similar power out of the Cayenne Turbo engine.

If it's the former I'd be intersted to see the engineering integrity given the budget of these guys vs the budget of Porsche.

It's aimed at a totally different market from high-end Range Rovers or Lamborghinis. Trust me, there are more Gemballa or Mansory clones at motor shows every year, and it's because people are prepared to pay for them for the extra individuality.

The guy who runs Kahn Design in the UK was interviewed in a recent UK car mag. He owns several supercars, including two Bugatti Veyrons.

Kahn does full car conversions in the same vein as Mansory (though a bit more tastefully) but mainly they sell wheels. The fact the proprietor is as wealthy as he is simply from selling upgrades for premium cars, pretty much says all you need to know for the potential market of something like the Eterniti.

If I've got £210k (plus 20% vat) to spend on a SUV there's only one place my money is going... and that's a G Wagen (maybe with a few discrete Brabus mods)...

EDIT...

And it would need to be just a few Brabus mods as I just saw the price of the full fat 800PS version... €490k (plus vat)... good grief!!!!

LM002. Nothing can ever beat the looks and sound of it. NEVAAAAH.

Perhaps, maybe, this thing:

V12, BiTurbo. FTW.

Who really wants to buy an ugly, 600hp "SuperSUV"? Are they trying to start a fastest SUV war? The stupid Bugatti vs Koenigsegg top speed war is enough to handle already. Besides, it looks like a fat version of the Cayenne anyway.

There's always a market for speed. Regardless of the craft.
