Add Porsche or Ruf as a DLC if not in the game?

Over the 4th of July weekend myself and some PSN and Local friends had many discussions about GT6 and PS4. But one of the questions that keeps coming up from all my friends is:

Will they finally have some updated Ruf's or for that matter Porsches for GT6???

My immediate answer - More than likely not.

Considering how EA and Microsoft are about licensing and tidbits that they find to hinder their competition, more than likely they have gone after Polyphony and Sony in one way or another over the Ruf's in Gran Turismo and have sincerely blocked any attempt due to licensing agreements with Porsche and now Ruf (see Forza 4, they have updated Ruf's etc).

The only way I could see that they could bypass this for GT6 or make it relevant in agreeing to some licensing terms, is to follow the same suit Microsoft (Publisher) did with Forza 4, and offer a "Porsche Pack" or DLC for the game.

I'm not sure how that was facilitated with EA having a firm grip on the Porsche license (which was due to expire in 2011/2012), but I'm sure it was done in a fashion where whomever had the licensing agreement at the time, made it equitable or "fair enough" to make it happen.

Polyphony, if you are really listening and have these massive plans for further development for the PS4, please hear this plea to add one of the best motorsports manufactures to the game, at least as a DLC option.

I couldn't care less about Porsche, and I really doubt they'll ever see a GT game, since they haven't been there in the last 15 years chances are even slimmer.

Unfortunate for people who like Porsche though.

Yep hasn't been a Porsche since that hidden 911 GT3 from Gran Turismo 3 :indiff:

If you like Porsche or not, you can't go past their racing history. Kaz said several times how they decide which car to include in the game, and by that Porsche is THE brand for Gran Turismo to get:tup:

You can see the growing influence the GT-brand has on Automotive Industry in the actions they take, for example GM´s camouflaged and prototype Corvette and Mercedes SLS race vs. Coulthard and the recent announcement of the 3 Mercedes to be implemented in GT6 on their own website, on facebook pages etc. Manufacturers like these seemed to have recognised how much they can benefit from a collaboration with a game franchise like GT.

And others sure are aware of this. So, my opinion is, the only way for Porsche to be in the game is when they realise what a big fail it was to sign that one contract and then will try to get out of it, somehow. I didn´t study Jura, but I´m sure that if the Porsche representatives are willing to, they will find a way.

PD is unlikely to do the Forza-subcontract-thing, it would be a second option though, but the first I mentioned above I find much more likely, it´s more up to Porsche than it is to PD, IMO.

If they can't get Porsche, I'd be ecstatic if they worked more closely with Ruf, introduced a few new models and made everything premium. Why they would choose to Premium an Alpine of all things I'll never understand. The 4 Rufs in the game probably represent my favourite marque in terms of cockpit time per car.

Kid to dad..."What's a Porsche?" ...

shows kid pic of 911 GT3

Kid to dad... "I like Nissan 370Z"

True story..

With GT (70m sold) and Porsche This they can think they don't need the other

True, it´s a possibillity, we don´t know how they think... But I would find it pretty arrogant to think that way tbh... and in 20 years Trux words above will have become true, in a large scale.

Only way GT will get Porsche is if EA gives up their seat on the board or Sony buys into Porsche A.G. that way they have say on who gets what license. Either way I do hope that PD gives us that update RGT8 and the other monster machines from Ruf, those things are sick.

It must be pure profit thing, GT5 was rumored as a 60M budget game and as a manager I would give even those 10M just for the license, and then some bookkeeper comes: "why so, the game would sell same amount with Porsche not in the game "

Could be PD´s thoughts, hence why I said I find it unlikely they would go the Forza-dlc-way, and the only way for Porsche to be in the game was if Porsche takes on the action, ´cause PD won´t.

Now, I understand your point was Porsche could say they don´t need another game support. But couldn´t Mercedes etc. think the same? Of course they don´t "need" it, but they obviously saw benefits to come from the collaboration.

Hey I love my Alpine! That's one of the main reason I bought a PS3 even if I sold my first PS3 and transitioned to PC sims last winter...

Let's hope , maybe changes at Sony are BEYOND Hirai and Cerny ;)

Alpines are great, but that´s a little off topic :)

If they were to premium only RUF´s of all things I wouldn´t quite support that decision either... I want variety. And you don´t know if there aren´t any premium RUFs yet, do you?

Sadly there's no "maybe" option, sure I'd be interested in a Porsche DLC pack but my purchase would depend on a few things such as content and price. If it's got cars in it I like the look of and is reasonably priced then I'd probably buy it, but I'm not going to buy it just because "OMG it's Porsche!!".

Why Porsche?

Because race car.

I can't see how Porsche can justify being represented in the digi world by NFS alone, when GT would do greater justice to their racing history...

I'm surprised that PD doesn't have talks with Volkswagon A.G. and try to get Porsche license through the parent company as Volks actually owns Porsche outright and could exercise it's right to control all licensing of their product.

There's absolutely no proof out there that Microsoft has "limited" any other dev's access to RUF - quite the contrary as Drive Club and another game at E3 had some of the newer models. GT5's antiquated lineup is likely only due to PD, nobody else.

VW now owning Porsche does not necessarily change anything, either; nobody knows how long the EA contract is meant to last. Seeing as how it still seems active, though, we can only assume that either a) Porsche's new owners don't affect it, or b) VW simply doesn't care to change it.

I wish PD could get access, as I agree with others that they'd do a damned sight better than EA at representing Porsche's history (FM3, for example, had over 30 Porsches, some of which have never even shown up in an EA title), but as FM4 showed, they seem to come with a hefty price tag, and as PD already enjoys such high sales, it'd be hard to justify the outlay, I imagine.

I wish they would do a GT6 Prologue and then put the profits toward the sub license. Come on PD!
RUF just doesn't feel the same...even though it's mostly in my head. It's like buying a fake pair of sunglasses, It looks right but the idea makes me feel cheap.

If VW own Porsche, why can't they do a deal? Chuck a few Skoda rally cars in as well.

Volkswagen owning a majority of Porsche now doesn't mean a contract between Porsche and a third party is suddenly terminated. Quite to the contrary, if Volkswagen actually is the legal successor (it could well be that Porsche still makes their own decisions and contracts in that area), all contracts between Porsche and third parties will definitely be upheld, at least until they run out.

So, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Nobody outside of EA and Porsche really knows how long that contract is running. I had some hopes for GT5, because it had been more than 10 years since the original conclusion of the contract (NFS Porsche Unleashed in 2000), but the contract could well have a longer running time or have been renewed in the meantime. Maybe it runs out in time for the first PS4 game of the series. :indiff:

EA have the Porsche license, yet within minutes of starting The Run they've already destroyed one in a car crusher... I fail to understand that...

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one who knew this, and that was a new Porsche model too... Seriously EA...

As for the addon content. Yes, I'll gladly sopport it by purchasing it if it was Porsches. 👍 Really it isn't fair Porsche being held back from games like GT and other racing games.

I would love to see Porsche or RUF in the game....

But I really don't understand the way the voting is going...given the choice, how can anyone prefer to have to pay for a DLC Porsche/RUF rather than it being included in the game fro free from the start?

*Scratching head!

Don't care about Porsche, but I'd like to see the current RUFs made Premium at least.

I'd rather have new RUF's as premiums, representing something from the last 10 years. At least we could pretend it was sort of a current Porsche as long as we don't get the real thing...

I know that, VW actually outright OWN Porsche. I hope that they restructure their licensing provisions to not allow one outside entity to hold rights to sub license their IP. This is the problem I see with EA's Porsche license, it gives EA too much power over Porsche appearance in games. Wouldn't it make more sense for Porsche to have those wanting to use Porsche in games and the like to come directly to them and pay for the license, this would cut down on the stranglehold tactics EA has been doing with FM as of late. Yes FM5 will probably not launch with Porsche again due to EA's interference.

I would love to have some Porsche LMP's in GT, not to mention some of their cars but the fact is the developer has to pony up extra money just to include Porsche...why? PD does the correct thing by not giving into bully tactics and just finding more car manufacturers to include, this is how we came to know Ruf because of absence of Porsche and I was never more surprised by their cars performance. Still would love the opportunity to battle it out with Porsche and Ruf side by side, Germany ultra machines on the Nur :D.

Note EA is not a very nice company and they have been known to try to beat the competition by choking access, NFL exclusive license and this Porsche thing...hence they always try to parlay Porsche's in every game they release with wheels. One day that license will expire and I hope that Porsche changes their licensing strategy to give everyone a fair shot at using their world renown automobiles in their games and other products.

^^ I've gone mad regarding this VW ownership thing to the point where I have joined their UK press website just to get the contacts.

I will be phoning them tomorrow to quiz them about the Porsche brand and how much power VW actually has over it licencing / media wise.

Being a VAG nut, I need to know. Porsche, VW and Audi have been sharing parts for decades now. Some parts are a straight swap onto my '88 Golf .
