PORSCHE WORLD SERIES 2011

The search is on for the fastest SU2 Porsche Racer on GTPlanet. This is a no frills TIME ATTACK series which will be region and timezone friendly. We will all race the same specs and tracks, but on a day and time convenient to where you live. Each region will have its own host and racers, and hopefully this series will fill the weekday void of online racing. However this series can be done at any time during the week.

THE SERIES

We will be racing WORKS Porsches in a series of TIME ATTACK races. Each race meeting will comprise of 2 time attacks ie two different cars on two seperate tracks. At the end of the series the winner will be the racer with the fastest average laptime over the the 8 meetings....and be crowned the SU2 PORSCHE WORLDCHAMPION of 2011

How is this going to work?

Well, if there is enough interest, each timezone ( eg Australasia / Europe / North America) will have a reliable host that will organise a day and time for racing. The host will record the each racer's laptime and PM me with the results. Once all the regions have done their races and times submitted, it will be posted in the results slot :
* time for each race
* average time for the 2 races
* your position in the series
This will be done on a weekly basis for each race meeting, but a rolling average of your times will be added each week. You can then keep track of position in the series. For example :

Week one:
race 1 laptime = 1.30:xxx
race 2 laptime = 1.40:xxx
average for week one = 1.35:xx

Week two:
race 1 laptime = 1.20:xxx
race 2 laptime = 1.00:xxx
average for week two = 1.10:xxx

Your position in the series after week two will be 1.35:xxx + 1.10:xxx divided by 2 = 1.22:xxx ( ie simply the average per meeting rolling over)

Week three:
race 1 laptime = 1.40:xxx
race 2 laptime = 1.20:xxx
average for week three = 1.30:xxx

Your position after week three will be 1.35:xxx (week one) + 1.10:xxx (week two) + 1.30:xxx (week 3) divided by 3 = 1.25:xxx

This format will continue...really just an average of your laptime each race meeting averaged out over the course of the series ( hope this make sense!)

CARS

We will be racing all the in game Porsches. I am leaving the Legends out for now for those who do not have the dlc. All cars will be works converted and tuning allowed to your liking.

CALENDER OF EVENTS

Each Porsche will be raced twice on two different tracks during the series:

Week 1
Race 1 : 911 GT3 RSR Modern GTX - Brno
Race 2 : Cayman S - Nurburgring GP

Week 2
Race 1 : Carrera GT - Silverstone Bridge GP
Race 2 : 911 Cup R - Dubai Autodrome GP

Race 2 : 911 Cup R - Suzuka GP

Week 8

Race 2 :911 GT3 RSR 2009 Team Falken - Hockenheimring GP

This series will only go ahead if there is enough interest from you guys. The only way to confirm laptimes, is to do the time attacks with your fellow racers in an organised way, in a proper online lobby. I will updated the OP once I know how many racers wants to join and if hosts can be found. Hope to see you on the track....let me know who wants to join 👍

My god, what a cool Idea, Zee. But I hate to drive Porsches... And that coming from a guy born and still living in Stuttgart! :scared:

Also I might wanna reserve a little life offline too since I m not yet married with kids unlike some a y all... But ah, what the heck, I ll probably still join in! :D

Race 1 : Spyder Concept - Enna Pergusa

I'm betting no one will finish this one because of the freezing issue (I can replicate this one at will during night races)

But who knows, mabe it'll work because I said the same thing about Mount Panorama and the Capri and then online it was OK :)

Count me in.

FLX, judging by your .sig I think you will miss a lot of fun by not joining.

It's like a dream come true! Count me in Z!

:) the very first race we had in Shift 1 was a Porsche race. That is where we met....a long time ago...needless to say I lost by a mile

FLX you will burn in a very hot place if a Stuttgart dude does not race Porsche's. It is a SIN :scared:

Rom I spend about 8 hrs testing the cars to find the most suitable car for each track. I have serious freezing issues to the extend that I gave up trying to win the M3 GT3 car. I had a freeze on lap 5 during the night race...leading by a few seconds. That was it !!! no more, no more, no more :ouch:

I have not had a freeze with the Spyder on Enna Pergusa ...yet. We will see how it goes though. On a side note, the most fun to race Porsche in the game is the Need For Speed 911 Carerra RSR 3.0 (the one you win in the Legends career). This is the only car in the game where you can get behind the wheel and point the nose where you want it. No tuning needed at all. I wish we could have raced it in our Legends series.

As with Shift 1 , the Porsches are a challenge to race, but seriously satisfying when you get it right. The pity is ( including the BMW's and Merc's) they are not Autolog record breakers, so people sort of forget about them. They are way toooo much fun to gather dust in your garage :)

Zeeco, I can't believe you remember our first race because I certainly do not . I have a feeling it was in the 911 GT2 for some reason. Call me biased if you want, but I think Porche, as whole, is the best handling manufacture if not Mazda. They don't break Autolog times, but I will happily destroy anyone online with one 👍. This should be a lot of fun!

How could you forget the SLS Speedhunters when talking about the best handling cars?

I'll be in for this. Though I'm useless with works cars (and pretty bad at tuning too :ill:) I'm sure it will be a lot of fun 👍 :)

@ Zee: I m more on Clarksons side here... Porsches are just overpowered Beetles! :D I personally prefer Mercs by far (SLS, oh yeah!), especially since Porsche started to torture my eyesight with those unbelievably ugly Panameras and Cayennes. And of course here, they are all over the city!

But actually I like the 924 to 928 - my Dad had one when I was a kid, until I was too big to fit in the back! The day he sold it, 5 year old FLX cried like a waterfall! :guilty:

Nowadays I m an Audi guy, though. Maybe because my uncle worked for Audis testing department and he brought along S2s, RS4s, S8s, S5s, R8s to family fests half a year before the official release...

Anyway, after all this blabla - yeah, whatever, I still dunno if I really wanna join in to slide some of those overpowered Beetles around! :D Together with the Combo series and training for that, this looks to get very time consuming.

Time consuming yes... Anyway, OVERPOWERED BEETLES???? You know Germany its a couple of hours from here, right? I can go there and poke you with a hot iron...

Plus a Panamera can fit a 5 year old kid in the back

On another subject I'm such a bad tunner I don't ever bother setting up the car and training. At most I lose some time with the gearing but even that its a dark science :(

Peope with a good tune will always have a serious advantage. I'm in this because it happens you guys are a cool bunch 👍 and obviously because we have fun :D

Rom I will meet you in Germany....Stuttgart to be precise....and I will bring my own hot iron :grumpy:

On a serious note though, the 911's need very little tuning from stock. I keep gearing to hit the red at the end of the straights. If there is a lot of torque, eg the ZO6 I set the lower gears for more speed than acceleration. Most of the time it prevents the rear from stepping out.

you kidding me rommy , you're a tuning wizzard -- don't believe him guys he knows that telemetry inside out 👍👍 , by the way while i'm on about telemetry -- whats the thin vertical by the side of the tyre model for ????? Rommy knows i know he does :lol:

brake temps

By the way, switching through the different telemetry screens by clicking right on the d-pad doesnt work on the DFGT. :ouch:

Count me in.
However i can race only at the evening time EST, which is around 3 or 4 am in europe. Differnt time zone groups would be great, but sadly it doesnt look like that many people are interested.

FLX1981
By the way, switching through the different telemetry screens by clicking right on the d-pad doesnt work on the DFGT.

It does for me FLX , theres only two menus though from what i can gather , the second one has the tyre temps , and the suspension , but the only thing the suspension one shows is the bumpstops , or am i reading it wrong , can anyone put up an explanation of what does what on the telemetry , and how to read it , i'm ok with the tyre temps i think , but then again its knowing how to put things right once it shows up on the telemetry . Is there an official online manual for shift 2 which explains the above ?

That is strange, when I press right on my DFGTs d-pad while I m in telemetry view nothing happens..? Have to look up if I maybe accidentially change it or something.

Anyway, after I kept my record with the 911 perfect yesterday, I think I should really join in. S2U Porsche Champion would sound nice in my vita! :D

brake temps

Done some testing and so it seems. I was wrong about tire wear... But something tells me that thin bar lowers in endurance races also.

Then again, I usually drink some scotch to calm down before racing (except for legends final round where I definitely needed some :D )

Don't knowabout a manual, but you need to look closely to that second menu where it shows brakes, tires, suspension and transmission stuff.

There's a 3rd menu that shows G forces. and the 1st one is just for the tire where direction, traction and temperatures are shown.

That third menus isn't much use though is it ? Whish there was a tutorial of some sort for it . Can't understand why they would put a telemetry thingy on , and not tell / show people how it works , what to look for , and how to rectify what you've found 💡
Must be some wise person on here who could maybe set out a basic tutorial :dunce: Any takers ???:guilty:

Red = Bad

Yellow= Kinda good AND bad

Your welcome. :sly:

See i knew there was some wise dude out there , never guessed it would be Vaxx though :lol: Thanks for that very detailed , and well thought out tutorial for the telemetry thingy , i'm much wiser now , and hopefully much faster ( no sarcy comments required or i'll contemplate a mass deletion )

I'm definitely IN this 👍👍👍 i can race anytime at any day at any time zone. I can adapt, only if some one throw me a challenge.

So who wants a race witch WTC-3 champion ??:mischievous:

But seriously i can start race from August 5th. This Friday because I'll finish my racing cockpit :) Finally some serious on line racing. I cant wait :D

And what a fantastic idea with Porsche choice. If you look at car factories then you can see that Porsche has the strongest line up in Shift 2.

It looks like this:

Pagani 2 cars (Zonda F/R, Huraya)
Koenigsegg 1 car (CCX, Agera is comming)
Mclaren 3 cars (F1, SLR, MP4 dash something, some number)
Mercedes 4
Porsche 9 + 2 Legend cars

So who wants to race this Friday ?

I'm down to race you Ussr this Friday. I hope you're ready for the most talented thumbs of the Legends Series lol.

Fantastic.

So how do we do this? I know that we have to race this two races:

Race 1 : 911 GT3 RSR Modern GTX - Brno
Race 2 : Cayman S - Nurburgring GP

I can propose this, Race 1 three rounds, five laps each or more. The winner is the person who win two races out of 3.

Then second race, the same thing. This is something similar to Tekken Tournaments rules.

During those races we will collect some lap times, those will be send to Zeeco (pictures taken after each race, with simple digital camera)

And that will probably close round 1 between me and you. Then next wee we can meet up for round 2, thats:

Week 2
Race 1 : Carrera GT - Silverstone Bridge GP
Race 2 : 911 Cup R - Dubai Autodrome GP

Is this correct or did i miss something? Maybe we should race each Week only once. One race, one chance to win and score some lap times. How many laps should we take? 3, 5, ...10?
