Possible Sound Fix?

I've been paying close attention to how GT6 utilizes it's sound, and I think a lot of the problems from the sound department, comes from the engine they use to convey the sound's direction. Ever passed a car and noticed when you get near either rear fenders how prominent the sound gets? Or look behind you and hear different noises? For instance the BOV noise on turbo cars is a lot more prominent in the rear view cam. The best sounding angle I've noticed, is if your using the room cam, look to either side it's like the volume gets cranked up to 11, that is how GT6 should sound. I don't think its the samples they took at all, don't get me wrong, some of them aren't the best, but for instance the Aventador, look to the side while using the roof cam next time, my ears were in heaven. I think all PD needs to do, is correct where the sound comes from on the cars. Anyone else noticing this phenomenon?

Dude i thought i was the only one? Maybe it's my awesome TV? something has changed with the sounds.i feel it

Someone else mentioned it in another topic after I mentioned the problem, but the sounds of other cars will overpower yours when you have your sound settings on "Living Room." Change it to "Small Theatre" and it will correct the problem.

This is an issue, sure, but it's not the real problem. I get really annoyed when I drive the BMW GT2 and GT3 cars (E92 and Z4) and they literally sound like vacuum cleaners. Where the hell is the sound of the engine? Just terrible.

That's the reason why I sold my M3 and Z4. Did PDI even hear the exhaust notes of the actual cars?

I tried this, and even though I use headphones, the bass of engine sounds (from all angles) was notably improved after setting the environment to small theatre! Had to turn down the sound effects volume a bit though, as it was much louder too.

Yea I've noticed this since gt5. If you pass a car or watch a reply where a car whizzes by close to the camera there is a sweet spot where you think URGGHH so nice I wish it sounded like that all the time.

If PD simply tuned their sounds for flat out "cool" sounding instead of accurate position I think 99.99% of people would be happier

Maybe its just me but it seems like some of the sounds changed after the 1.02 update. Seems like some of my cars sounded better before the update than after? Anyone else notice this or am I imagining things?

This option is not adjustable for me. Why is this the case?

Maybe if we complained to specific manufacturers about how our perception of their cars are being ruined by PD, then they would consider the impact it's having on their brand, & have words with PD directly. Anyone wanna start some petitions?

I switched to a Turtle Beach DPX-21headset and from bumper cam to the hood cam, made sure 5.1 was turned on in the xmb and in gt6. Sounds are much better.

Another thought though, in car video from real race cars seem to have transmission noise as a dominate sound. You certainly hear the engine, but it is much different from what you hear outside the car.

No you're not bro, i feel the change too

No, no and NO. If PD reads this they will get confused and they will end up just cranking or distorting the sounds without actually fixing them. I will repeat this for the 100th time.

It doesn't matter if you play the game through a $50,000 speaker system, or through the TV speakers. As an example: Cranking up the volume will not make the Diablo GT (and many others) magically sound like a V12 (like the engine it's supposed to have) when in the game it sounds like a freaking V10 and a V8 depending on the exhaust!!!!

Sound is good in GT6, and better than in many racing games! The sound samples are screwed up BADLY and there is no volume level or fine adjustments that can fix them!!

Depends on the car really. A lot of GT cars are this way but, a lot of Formula Cars will have an intake noise as the dominant sound.

The best example of that would probably be the HSV-10. It has the most dramatic change in sounds from the cockpit to the external views.

It's also the only car I've found, so far, to have realistic in car sounds on GT6. Still needs to have the volume amplified a TON though.

This is true. I think people are wanting the sound they hear from the exhaust, which I think isn't going to be a dominate in car sound.

Depends on the view. I'm complaining about exhaust because I can't use the in car on GT6. The steering work of the driver annoys me so I drive in chase. When you can't hear the exhaust there, it becomes a problem.

I would prefer to use the cockpit, but the view isn't right to me. I already have a wheel in my hand, I don't need it on screen. I'd rather have the view "moved" forward a foot or so.

Small Theater makes a big difference in the overall balancing.

With my receiver, I have the option of taking 5.1 and turning it into "enhanced stereo". The big difference is the fronts and rears on each side are combined and played equally through both, making engine noise come from in front while on bumper cam or cockpit. Nice difference. Still have the left and right separation, (great when a car is swerving to block and you hear the sound fly around the room).

5.1 in a race, with all the cars making noise around you, is very well done. I just wish your personal car stood out a bit more without having to sum the channels.

First off lets look at the facts.

On certain cars, the sound is being rendered differently from GT5, with examples such as the Red Bull X series, they sound imho a step up from GT5 in GT6, there is also the Lexus IS F which sounds better now, the Z4 M is near it, they have that german engine scream present in AMG vehicles and high marque BMW's but its not there yet. What can not be disputed is that the engine sound overall has IMPROVED maybe by not much, maybe by a small margin, or even 1% but it is a definite improvement. The way the sound is generated is singular on one end. What I mean is that it seems to be more or less a pure exhaust note on certain cars, and on others, it is engine noise. Good car sounds do a mixture of both exhaust and engine noise, as IRL to produce a recognizable and coherent sound. Here is evidence to back up my claim, the Stingray '14 with a stock exhaust, when you listen to it, it has that "whoosh" sound like having the windows down, and that to me is more of an exhaust note, even though the sound itself doesn't sound close to a real life Stingray. Then there is the C63 AMG and SLS AMG, you can hear the pure engine note of particularly recognizable AMG whine, but the exhaust note, the rumble of the massive V8s in those cars are absent. Sound systems may confuse, but if you truly take time to look and listen, you can tell that the sound channel is singular.

Then now lets look at the assumptions and claims

PD and Kaz has stated sound may be patched in a later update. Now I've looked at the news, the interviews, the press releases, but the word MAY is a big one here. That is no guarantee. The word may, like maybe is just a 50/50, a shallow promise with no real meaning. I'm optimistic so I'm hoping they do it, but we must remember that Kaz and PD never went out and stated in their exact words that ," Yes, we will patch GT6's sounds in a future update" all they said was the sound engine wouldn't make the release date and they hope to maybe patch it. Now what I think is that hopefully due to pressure from the community and its consumers, and maybe even car companies tired of being portrayed inaccurately ingame will make PD incorporate the sound engine.

Now lets agree to disagree.

We all disagree that honestly, GT6s sounds are good. Yes, I said it, its not good maybe to a man born in the middle of the ocean who has never heard a car, but overall they aren't good. This doesn't contradict how I said it has improved, it just means that it went from worse to bad, but that doesn't mean it becomes good, its still bad, its just a step up from worse. What I think is that we should simply let time be a judge. Let PD do their job, they are working nonstop, as consumers, we often look for faults in the product over the pros first, and even if the pros heavily outweigh the cons, we will endlessly gripe about the one fault we find. We already bought the game, lets just sit and wait and lets see what PD can do. Game companies don't take a day off on a launch title, they are endlessly working on getting more content and fixing issues.

Just my thoughts

You should really go to the menu then and do exactly that, because this is an option available since GT5. Extra Wide will give you what you're looking for.

No, this is not new, it was in GT5 as well, you just weren't listening. Also, the V10 sample used in the Aventador isn't going to magically change to a V12 one just by playing with the camera angles.

So true, they have a pathetic, weird sound! Yet if you enter one of the GT3 races and pass one or get close then you will hear one of the deepest, snarliest V8 soundtracks you're likely to ever hear! Why can't I hear that noise when driving the damn things?!!

It's just entertaining how some people write a whole essay on what they think it's going on with GT's sounds, yet they are so lost. You don't need more than a line to describe what's right or wrong is with GT's sounds.

Here's a good example of what you people are clearly not paying attention to:

No, this is not new, it was in GT5 as well, you just weren't listening. Also, the V10 sample used in the Aventador isn't going to magically change to a V12 one just by playing with the camera angles.

Or messing up with sound settings, if I may add. FINALLY! Someone with common sense!!

Sorry, was not specific enough in my initial post. I'm not saying the sound would be perfect by being remixed, I know the samples are horrible for certain cars, but some are decent for others. And lets face it, PD is not going to patch in a whole new sound engine, and new samples, that's going to wait for GT7. What we could see in GT6's life cycle is better sound mixes, may it be "stylised" or "unrealistic" I don't care, I just want cars to sound better, and I think we can all agree on that.

I've tried that, there is something weird about that zoom level too. There is something about cockpit as a whole that is off to me. FOV maybe? We are hijacking the thread though.

Back on topic. Project CARS has the best sound of any game I've played. I've never driven the majority of the cars in these games, so I have no real world frame of reference.
