Ideally in a few years time I'd like to replace the 130i with an E92 335i or M3, think they look really nice and it just depends what the rate is for an E92 when the time comes. Are the reliable on the whole?

I'd say they are extremely reliable if you don't mess with them too much. The M3s major problems are the trans. and the rod bearings. Some of the early DCTs had issues and the software wasn't the best but by now they should have the newest software update and if it hasn't had problems by now it should have many issues. As far as 6MTs, I've read of some 2nd gear synchros going bad but that is usually due to bad driving, though this one grinds 2nd when it's cold and you put it in too fast. Nothing major though and works perfectly when downshifting even without rev matching. As far as the rod bearings it's a mixed bag. I've read that they changed tolerancies and materials along production and some of it has to do with the climate of where you live and the oil you use. Personally, I'll keep on using 10w-60 as temps here never go under 65F. When the bearing are about to go you should also be able to notice with noise so there sould really not be a case of catastrophic failure out of the blue. However, you should probably change them preventively if you're doing a supercharger install and if you feel it gives you more peace of mind.

This particular one I have has about 32K miles currently and the only thing it has had changed were wheel speed sensors. 3 of them. That seems excessive but I guess it's pretty common on bimmers especially with rain as mine has had 2 of them replaced within 2 years.

On the 335i I know less but the main problem has been the HPFP failing, though that has extended warranty on it IIRC. There are other issues that come with raising boost such as getting less life out of items like the turbos and ignition coils. You'll also have to spend extra on meth or race gas if you want to get high boost levels. If you plan on modifying a 335i to M3 levels of overall performance it's best to buy an M3 since A LOT of things change (unlike e39 M5 and 540i), but if you just want better than M3 performance in a straight line the 335i is probably your best bet even with possibly higher maintenance costs. The 335i will always be faster in real world conditions with its extra torque and might even be faster on some tracks with enough modification, but it won't have that amazing 8K RPM wail along with a few other special items.

At a friend's house moving a washer machine... And it hit my car. Yet another thing to replace on my car. I intend to get a new car anyway.

Im sure nobody saw this coming but you can add me to the list of people who are laying a car to rest this winter.

It happened on Wednesday morning. I'll update my thread with more pictures and details tomorrow. The car is long gone but I walked away with a sore knee and tight shoulder blade.

@hemisport15 Holy :censored:balls! Did not see that coming, that's a nasty crash. Glad you're OK, that's what matters.
Someone I know had something similar happen to him in his E36, but it was a little worse and he ended up in the hospital.

In any case, lucky to have walked away fom that, a few feet of difference and it would be a whole different story. What happened?

🤬. Glad to know you're okay.

Did you literally wrap it around a tree? A shame but good to hear you're okay, surprising with that damage really.

Oh damn!!! Glad to see you're alright.

Jesus christ, that's nasty. Glad to hear you're alright @hemisport15. How on earth did it end up that shape?

@hemisport15 glad you're okay mate. Looks like a horrific crash.

Thanks guys, I got extremely lucky. The pillar took the brunt of the hit and the force pushed it into the back of my seat which then hit the center console.

I was changing lanes on my way to work and something caused the rear wheels to break loose. I thought it was a combination of the low temperatures and moisture/ice in between the lanes but the police think that the build up of leftover salt on the road was the reason. I went sideways through the right lane, backwards through a turn lane, over a curb, through a sign, and then into the tree. Luckily nobody else was involved.

Did the police estimate how fast you were going when you hit the tree? I know trees are particularly immovable but it looks like your car can't have slowed down much as you spun.

I'm sorry to see such a beautiful car go. I'm glad no one else was involved. I'm ecstatic that you were able to walk away. I hope you heal quickly and completely.

I look forward to your next car.

Somewhere around 40-45. There were a lot of other cars on the road (typical morning commute traffic) so I wasn't going very fast.

Me too and thank you. As for my next car, I've put a little thought into but nothing serious. I'm thinking about getting into a bigger car like an E39 M5 or a 7 series and enjoy cruising comfortably. I don't think I can bring myself to get back into an E36 or similar vehicle. But if I do, it would be an M Coupe or E46 M3.

Emotionally, or for safety reasons? 'Cos I'd say that actually the car looks like it did its job in this instance. I'd normally champion small, lightweight cars, but the E36 is substantial enough that you managed to walk away from an accident like this...

Of course an E46 might be even better, but I'd not be put off owning a car you love through a freak incident.

Jesus christ. Well, to be honest there's good news: if it happened Wednesday and all you have is a sore knee and tight shoulder, that's most likely the only problems You'll have. Glad to hear you're ok. When you decide to post the story in your thread, do you mind tagging me?
if I remember from a previous post, you have a second car, correct?

Edit-maybe I should have looked at the rest of the page!

Glad you're OK hemisport15.

I was once hit just behind the driver's door by a much heavier car and spun 180 degrees in an instance (right at an intersection). After walking up to a house to call for a tow truck (back before cell phones) and back I noticed a sore knee. I banged it on the door then the steering column. Neck was sore for a few days too. Arms and shoulders seemed OK.

Take care the next couple days. You may find more tweaked spots on your body.

I've been waiting a few days to post this in fear of being scolded, but I've decided it's whatever and I feel like sharing it. I'll do my best to keep it short, sweet and to the point.

A few weeks ago, I started contemplating the outcome of selling the Legend for a car that I could actually work with, which is something that I've desired from my car for a while. A manual, lightweight vehicle that has good aftermarket potential/support, and that I could throw into turns and sprint through the gears in. Having a smooth, classic V6 sedan is something that interests me greatly, but I've never been the kind of guy to lust over soft-riding, automatic, heavy cars as daily drivers. So, after having my taste of the Legend, and doing plenty of research, I decided to bite the bullet, and get rid of the car. It was a very difficult thing to do, but I wanted to save myself the disappointment of trying to turn it into something it's not. Many users on this site persuaded me to do this, so now I've done it, but not because I felt forced.

The Legend went off to auction, where hopefully an enthusiast for Legends or classic sedans will snatch it up and restore it to its OEM state and drive it delicately.

The vehicle taking its place - a 1999 Ford Ranger. 2WD; 5 speed manual:

I'm very pleased with this truck. It's light, fun to drive, and I can't seem to get enough of the 5-speed. I've been considering saving up for a 4.0 swap, since I can easily buy the mounts to do the swap successfully, but I'm gonna wait until I'm used to the truck and know it inside and out before I decide on any mods.

_______

I arrived home while the house was still empty, so I got to have the garage to myself for a little while to scrutinize the Ranger. Everything seems very clean both cosmetically and mechanically - I will have more pictures later on. All in all, this was a very gratifying purchase. Prepare yourselves for many updates. :D
