Full send today into work during our snowmagedon event. We'll see how much worse it gets throughout the day but I gotta say this big girl and winter tires are an awesome combo.

I'm not sure if it is the car I'm thinking of, but dont these have a bit of a monster engine?
Maximum cool points either way
Sort of but not my specific model. These can be had with the 260hp 300ft.lb 5.7L LT1 though. I have the anemic L03 5.0L with under 200hp. 😅

Love the colour combo. I've been looking at getting the genuine option wheels for my HSV to get closer to this type of look but the price.

They are lighter than mine so there is that... well that's how I'm trying to justify it to myself.

My Mercedes C350 Blue Efficency, very rare in the UK with under 60 sold.
Its a 3.5 V6 petrol, 306bhp. I originally got it as a cheap run around as I was getting bored with putting fuel in previous 500bhp Audi S4 and RS4”S (both B5 models), but the Mercedes has turned out better than I thought, and years later I’ve still got it.

Tell me about your B5s! I’ve always had a thing for the early RS cars. There’s something extra cool about a B5, as well. I had a B5 1.8T years ago, tuned by AmD (the original AmD in Bicester). Nothing special, but it was my first real taste of tuning, and I’ve been hooked since, mainly on fast Golfs (see my R a few posts back).

Like the Merc, by the way. The wheels really suit it!

I’ve had all sorts over the years, Sapphire Cosworth, Cavalier Turbo, Golf GTI, various Audis etc etc

i agree on early Audis, the modern stuff doesn’t interest me at all!
I first had an Audi S2 Avant, definitly one that usually only the hardcore Audi fans know of! 5 cylinder 2.2 turbo, same engine as the original Audi quattro, and the genuine quattro drive train too. Was running about 280bhp.
next I had a totally standard pre facelift B5 S4 saloon, followed by another S2 Avant. Then a 492bhp facelift S4 saloon with tons of mods, and finally a B5 RS4 running about 460bhp

Yeah I know all about S2s. I’ve owned a B3 and a B4 Coupe myself. The B3 was the 2.2E 10v 5 cylinder, nothing like an S2 in terms of performance but such a gorgeous sound. I did look at getting some head work done by Tim Styles Racing to create a bit more power but it wouldn’t have been a cheap job!

I really miss the B3. It was Tornado Red, 89 so didn’t have to worry about a cat, and nicely lowered. Looked mega. I keep my eye out for another as a project car, but they’ve really bounced in value, just like the S2.

The RS looks immense! Such a fat stance. There’s a thread on one of the Audi forums where someone pulled a 2.7T out of an Allroad and managed to get it to work in a B3 shell! Now that’s my kind of project!

Lovely cars.

My dad had a brand new B2 80 Sport, followed by a brand new B3 80 quattro.
It was those two cars that got me to love early Audis, I’d love to own either of them, but they’re so rare now!

Yep, a very similar scenario for me. My first car was a 1.8 Escort (I know..) and then I got the B3 and I’ve been hooked on Audis and Dubs ever since. Looking back, the B3 wasn’t even the nicest car to drive, especially compared to how much things have moved on. But the thing had soul. I guess it’s this infatuation and love for cars that Kaz tries to get across with GT.

Unfortunately as things stand the R is in bits, it’s done a piston. So right now I’m looking at potentially doing forged pistons and rods so I can safely run a bigger turbo in the future. I like what I’m hearing about the new G Series Garretts. The turbo it’s currently running does make good power, but it’s running almost 2 bar. Which is a lot for a standard bottom end, as I’ve discovered 😂

Nothing wrong with Escorts! I had various ones in the early 90s, including XR3i and an Orion 1.6i Ghia!
I dread to think what I’ve spent on modding cars over the years, I simply can’t be bothered with it now, so just chose things that are quick out of the box and do a few visual mods such as wheels, lowering and tints.
I’m done with chasing big power, been there and done that!
The C350 is sub 6 to 60, and will do 155 if you ever needed to, that’s quick enough for me these days with all of the cameras around.
Don’t get me wrong, I do miss the performance of the Audis as it was huge fun, but things move on.
Ironically, I’d say the best car I ever owned was my remapped 330d, 300bhp and 500lb/ft, it pulled like a train, did excellent mpg and turned heads too. Easily the best all rounder no question. I’d happily consider another when I next swap.

Power isn’t everything! And you know what, it’s much more fun driving a slow car fast than a fast car slow 😏

I’m borrowing a ~100bhp small Japanese hatchback for my daily commute while my car gets fixed. It’s surprisingly rewarding to drive. Only weighs around 950kg, which I’m sure is helping matters.

I remember years ago Renault made a hot (ok, warm) diesel 5. Same kind of year as the old GT Turbo. They were really rare, but a mate had one briefly and they were so much fun! My uncle also had the GT Turbo. I’d have been about 14/15 when I went out in it, and I think it definitely helped plant the petrolhead seed.

Renault know how to do the hot hatch 👍

Yeah I had a warm diesel Renault Mégane a few years ago. Prior to the Scenic I had an RS Twingo, it was quite a shift in dynamics 😆.
IMG_20190718_203554_691.jpg

This is the Mégane GT diesel I had, 170bhp, not quite as stiff and sporty as the RS225 but it was a good car to drive, loads of torque as well.

And this is the Twingo RS I had immediately prior to the Scenic, 1.6 NA, 130+ bhp after I'd finished with it, stainless decat sport manifold, 172ph1 air intake, polybushed engine mounts, and it already had the cup pack option so cup dampers, 17inch cup wheels and spoiler, I then had H&R cup springs put on it.

It just struggled as a family car 😆

Now that sounds like fun! 130bhp in something that weighs about 800kg if I remember correctly? It’s often a false economy trying to squeeze more power out of an NA engine, but if the power to weight ratio is on your side it’s worth doing.

I bet that thing put a smile on your face 😊
