-> I was working to edit some of my posts on my GT6 >Missing< Thread. I encountered a problem that I'm having in regards to transitioning between formats as I edit:

- I use the BB Code format to keep the overall post neatly in thorough detail.
- But I use the Rich Text format to see previews & to make small adjustments to my post.

^ But somehow as I edit my post using the BB Code, the edited content disappears on Rich Text!! And when I revert it back to BB Code, it's GONE!!! This didn't happen on GTPX (or any versions beforehand)!

-> Please help me! Or else it will be an endless loop, like this hidden track from GT3 here:

^ Many thanks as always!! 👍

The editor can get fragile on very large posts with lots of images.

Having said that, I was able to make a few test edits to your post there, and all of my changes were preserved as I jumped back and forth between the edit modes. Is there a specific set of steps which you can do to cause this issue every time? That would be helpful in tracking down a bug. Also, be sure that there are no errors in your manual BB code, as if there is an unclosed formatting tag, the editor may throw out some data to preserve its appearance.

^ The odd thing is that this issue happend just yesterday. It didn't happen when I did the 1st OP on which it had more images & YT links.

-> I was trying to unlink these links that has been connecting with multiple tracks on the list and tried to tidy them up. This is the format that I'm trying to do on each track:

=======

['size=4]['B]['U]Name[/B] (location / real or fiction)[/U]
['b]Track Name[/b]
['img]image[/img]
['size=1]*^ Blah, blah about no map pic.[/size]
['url=yt link]Youtube video[/url]
['size=1]['b][[*color=tbd]GT series[/color]][/b][/size]

=======

^ I have to put this (') to disable the modifications. The asterisk (*) is an option.

:)

There is a tag (or used to be, not sure if it still works) [noparse][/noparse] which would turn off the parsing of BBcodes within the tags. Pretty useful for posting examples of BBcode such as the above.

It's [plain][/plain] now. 👍

-> As I just found out few minutes ago, there is a certain limitations in regards to posting huge amounts of youtube hyperlinks per post. It's better to use the full url instead of using a hyperlink code.

=Will post my update= (being the guinea pig in GTP)

:)

====

1st EDIT -> I don't know why, but my intent is to post a youtube link at the bottom of the picture. But it ends up posting the whole youtube window! I don't know whats going on!!

-> Heres what I'm on about...

- Here's what I've imput on the post:
[url='http://youtu.be/y5hsMmU4Wvs']link[/url]

^ But it turns into this:
[media=youtube]y5hsMmU4Wvs[/media]

-> Even if I try to do a direct link like this:
http://youtu.be/y5hsMmU4Wvs

^ Still ends up like this...
[media=youtube]y5hsMmU4Wvs[/media]

~> And I'm NOT even doing anything to turn it like this!!!

:indiff:

-> So I ended up embedding the link within every image and types =Click on Pic= below that image...

:grumpy:

====

2nd EDIT -> I did what I did, as I tried to edit the post...half of the post that took me 15mins to edit was wiped out!!!! I really don't like this new GTP format!!! It makes editing & posting much, much, much more tedious and frustrating!!!

:mad:

Linking directly to the YouTube video with URL tags should work:

[url='http://youtu.be/y5hsMmU4Wvs']link[/url]

...becomes...

link

^ I did that in a routine manner, as I try to edit these codes. And I did what can, but suddenly it chopped whole post! :(

I've been having some "unexpected" stuff happening when editing OP (in race event threads - which are big posts of course)... and switching between rich/bb

ESPECIALLY when copy/pasting stuff around. (Like rearranging blocks of text or images, lists, links, etc.)

It's not that stuff goes missing so much as I think a start or end bb tag will either disappear or appear - or maybe move... Not sure what's happening, but I wind up having to go into the BB and clean up the extra tags.

I've noticed what helps me, is if I put in a separator kind of thing like this:
-------------------
between my sections, so it helps me know where I am in the post as I switch back/forth.

It helps keep the rich text editor from extending code into another section, if that makes sense. If anything, it'll just make the ------- big, and that's easy enough to see in preview & fix.
You really can't be copy/pasting with the editor in direct next lines, or the code tends to want to swoop down into the next line. (Not sure why that is.) So I tend to err on the side of multiple line breaks to make sure that doesn't happen.

This might be just me, but what would really help is if the BB text box was adjustable width.
Even at "more options" I can't make the editor box size wide enough to clearly see long lines esp with code (like a long url or such).

The editor window is re-sizeable (assuming your browser supports that, of course), but I think both of you guys would be best served by disabling WYSIWYG and sticking to the "plain-text" editor.

Yes, I would, but the codes - there's no buttons (they disappear when you switch to text, so the copy/paste thing... kind of slows me down. So that's mainly why I use the WYSIWYG. I don't actually know all the codes off hand, exactly. So there's a big potential for error there typing them out.

Or are the buttons there if you use a different browser?
My text box is not resizable here - not in rich text or the plain text editor box.
I'm on an imac using Firefox.
I also have Safari & Chrome - and each of those is problematic for me in general (not just with this web site - it's not this forum's fault that - they just have usage issues for me).

So I guess I've yet to find some way to manage it all best.

Perhaps make a list of all relevant codes in a text document to which you can refer while posting, or even cut 'n' paste?
Yes, that's a good idea, I might do that. (Rather than doing it off the web page of codes - most of which I don't use anyhow - so I'm hunting)

Just fire up Notepad or its equivalent and, as you use a new code, enter it into the text document as well. You'll end up with a list of the codes you frequently use. No need to hunt down an exhaustive list or anything like that.
