Are private rooms a good idea? i like racing jo public and seeing gtp tags in the same race but if all you guys are going into private rooms you wont see or meet any new people i know you have a choice but will any of you go back to public racing once private rooms are here?

Are private rooms a good idea?.....He11 yeah it's a good idea. I'm fed up with racing dumb asses in open races, tired of getting pitted, tired of getting rammed off track...ect

It's nothing wrong with open racing but I want the option to choose if I want to go in a private room or do some open racing.

This topic has been beat to death already....it's easy if you want open racing then just search for open races, if not then go in a private room.

Its been beat to death by people wanting private rooms but not the other way round, and that means id never get to race the likes of your good self because id never meet you

Yep, I'd definately still check out the public areas from time to time. Even now, I sometimes race off schedule just to see who else is out there. That often ends up being a one horse race, but every now and then you come across someone very good you've never met before.
Then you can point them in the direction of GT Planet. 👍

We all get this thread more than you can imagine. We are all more than sick of the term "private rooms". I'm not trying to be a jerk at all but basically there has been more threads about private lobbies than days in a year. I (we) don't ever want to hear the term again. :)

Fair point, its just i never new about GT,Planet until i got a ps3 and gt5p and meet racers online if it was private <forbidden word> rooms only i would have not meet anyone, and yes i am new,i wont make that mistake again

It's cool, i'm honestly not trying to be condescending and i'm glad you didn't take it the wrong way. Usually any thread with the word "private" or "punters" or "skidmarks" in the title will be closed due to the amount of times it's been discussed.
Hope you stick around GTP.

Indeed, though it is perhaps a new view on it. This is the first thread I've read that private rooms may have a negative impact on online - such that those not currently involved with GTP will ever have the opportunity. It's a very valid point, there are probably a fair share of members here who were recommended by players they met online (whether it be on purpose - a message or by accident - seeing the tag in race).

I personally can't think of a solution but the idea of not promoting GTPlanet as much as possibly seems a bit of a shame - especially to those who will miss out on these forums.

I wouldn't go back to public. That's what this website is for, is meeting new people...

Just in case this does get closed , here's my .02 , before it does

By now , you on line friends list should have grown to where you will not have this worry about this , and to back up Noah , thats is why there is GTPlanet , for this and much , much more.

Start adding friends when you see a good racer out there , it will grow.

Great points But I get the OPS concern. My friends list is filled with friends that would not have been there if not for general public races. These guys are great, respectful racers. Some from here, some from other racing teams and websites. I do long for the day when it will be just the buddies in a race. But it wont stop me from general public races. I will continue to search for great drivers in these races and develope friendships with them.
I just wanna race!!! so private/public work for me.

Private rooms are a good idea, it will allow friends (whether real life or e-friends) to race at their leisure using whatever cars they would like. It will also allow people who want to drift or do other shenanigans to do so without disrupting other out on the track.

There will still be public rooms though, getting private lobbies won't all of a sudden kill the public ones. It's worked the same way in every other racing game out there so I can't imagine GT will be any different once they get around to doing it.

I'd race public every so often. Wouldn't have much choice in Australia anyway, people are rarely online to race with, so I'd have to enter public races to kill time sometimes.

Hey Baldy 👍 i have raced you many a time and find you a good fair racer, Saturday night was a good example, the only problem was that we were both drunk , as someone mentioned add friends to your list, i will 100% add you in a private room when they come.

I will always race outside of private rooms as there are always new people racing who we have not come across yet and it would be a shame to miss a great race with these people, many a time i have turned on my PS3 and none on my list are racing, so if that happens we will have to race outside of the room.

PS you need to get another PS3

And another point here;
Being able to deal with punters/cheaters is a skill all on it's own - I'm still a novice
If you only race in private rooms, maybe this skill will begin to erode.
So there must be a happy balance between private/public racing.

Hi steveo do you wont cash or cheque he he, i think were getting there with the understanding of this thred, my friends list is ok thanks and if there not online i go to gtplanet and theres always someone there to race, but two of my friends on ps3 cant get gtplanet up for some reason and if i hadnt told them they would not even know about it, so i can never arrange to talk to them on here, another example,by the time GT5 comes out there be a hole new generation of players who dont no about this site and will never meet you unless you race in the public arena and you can bet there sell twice as many of the full game, and like bike shorts says we need you to race in public some times so you can show what a good racer is and what site to go on surely thats got to be good for gt.planet.

I really get Baldys point. I have few times mentioned that more than privaterooms, I'd like to have rating-system what measures drivers Clean Racing-skills, and gives average number from past races.

Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert, -events should be then based of that average number, so you could not go to expert-events if you have rammed and shortcutted etc etc a lot in your GT courier.

I like to meet new faces too, and this lottery system gives outsiders a chance to show their talents. When GT5P was released, I knew no-one, cause I was only drive with my friends those earlier GT's.

Ofcourse we need private-rooms, that we can organise tournaments, but we also need puplic-rooms with very tight Clean Racing Restrictions. In those you could be sure that no rammer cant get in it, and if someone hits you, you could think that it was no intentionally...only racing-accident.

it all depends... I think I would race public every now and then... but mostly private rooms that are available... I like to go on-line knowing for SURE I'm going to get good clean fun.... Now its sort of a lottery when you join races off-schedule... sometimes its good.... sometimes its a punt fest or corner cutters heaven... and THAT needs to change!! I like the points system that AutoAki was talking about... that sounds like a good plan... Kind of the same way Iracing works...

Iracing has the best system so far for punkters, the cleaner you race the better your score is, and vice versa. PD should implement something like this, and then for sure we will have good clean racing.

Yep... it's not about, 'this or that'. Both features must come atleast to GT5, or it will be huge dissapointment for some part of online-racers.
