Problem with USB Memory

Hey guys!

I have a problem with my USB memory. Last week, like any other day, I connected it to my laptop, but it didn't recognize it. Not only that, the message that the computer usually displays that it can't recognize the memory doesn't appear either.

The only thing that happens once I connect it to any computer is that the computer makes that sound it always does whenever you plug something in a USB port, and that the red light my USB memory has remains on.

Any idea?

Possibly corrupt flash memory, it's very common. It could be that the message isn't coming up because it's corrupt in such a way that the computer knows what it is but can't read the actual memory, which is also common because the controller and memory are different things.

Is there a way to fix that? :dunce:

It's possible there's some data recovery software specifically for USB flash memory sticks but if not, you're pretty much out of luck. Removing USB sticks without "ejecting" (unmounting) them first increases the risk of corruption, but they also have a limited number of reads and writes. Flaws in the silicon, soldering, environmental factors and even cosmic rays can all contribute, too.

Ouch. :( And I've already tried 2 programs, but they can't detect it.

Have you checked in Disk Management to see if it shows there?

It doesn't shows up anywhere.

If it's not showing up in Disk Management then the software wont be able to find it to check it.

Sounds like it. So it's not even showing up as a RAW partition? It's odd that there is nothing.

That's correct, it doesn't shows up anywhere, I plug it, the computer makes the "you just connected something to me sound", the red led on the flash drive goes on, and that's about it. :nervous:
