Proper Drift on DS3? How do I do it?

Well... i guess im the only drifter on GTP that uses d-pad to turn instead the analog, like a stubborn ancient gamer. So ill keep my mouth shut.

I used the d-pad (not for drifting, just racing) all the way back to GT3. It was only until a few months ago that I started using the stick to drive - the controller input function really helps out.

Try running it at 7 (max) and using the stick.

Controller sensitivity at 7 will make you even more twitchy, try -2 and go for smoothness. 👍

If dalton had the same issue I did, he'll find that the stick needs to be pretty responsive. I had to make the switch from d-pad to stick for one of the NASCAR special tests (think it was the outside line test)

After multiple tries, went to the stick. got a little better but still couldn't pass it. As soon as I ramped up the input response to 7, I passed it first try. Been running it ever since.

The DS3 drift seems much more about throttle control (as oppose to a wheel)

Me with DS3 last night was 69th :P comfort soft and initiate early in a high gear 2nd or 3rd usually does it :) I don't change controller sensitivity either and all off except abs=1 btw

edit: drift is seasonal at grand valley reverse, shame we only get one tarmac drift this week lol

watch Tsuchiya's drift bible, and go ahead and do it
it is not about how to drift with the ds3 (which is piece of cake), but being fast enough with your finger and knowing the techniques

Thanks for the advice, but i never said that im having issues. On side note, my imput sensivity is set on 5, and i have nothing to complain. I already tried 7, but then it hurts the inertia of the overstering.

Twitchy? Nah, d-pad dont have this kind of issue, cose the turning is not progressive or decreasing as the analog or the racing wheel.

OP - Is your PS3 online? If it is, I'd recommend you go into a drift room and watch others drifting for a while, concentration on what lines they're taking, where they're making their entries, where they're transitioning etc. Then enter the track and scout a few laps, then try powering-over a little and gradually build up until you're properly drifting. Don't try to do 100m long backwards entries on each corner, cos you'll just get frustrated. To over-use the phrase a bit more, gotta walk before you can run.

I still do this when I'm trying a track I haven't drifted before, or drifting a user created track for the first time.
