Not sure if this has been answered/discussed already if so please forward me the thread.

I have a 23.5 inch, 1080p, 2ms, 50,000:1 monitor, it has served me well for just over 3 years, late '09, and it still does today, it's my current PC AND PS3 monitor, because it's 1080p.

I'm editting video/s now, and 1080p, remarkably, seems a little cramped with all of the extra boxes that it puts on the screen, so I want to upgrade to 1440p (2560x1440), specifically 1440 not 1600 because it's the difference between 16:9 and 16:10, and I'm hoping, if someone else here has done this, a 16:9 monitor will.

A. Work with PS3 1080p games (I know it'll work fine with my 720p games, 1 pixel = 4), but GT5 especially, and also Blu-rays/DVDs? 480p to 1080 is flawless, but higher than that?
B. Still exist in 2ms refresh.

I might have to give up 2ms, when I bought my current monitor, 5ms was to be avoided, earlier in the LCD technology ghosting came up in my research, it was basically just go 2ms and don't worry about it, now I'm struggling to be sure.

Found an 'IPS' 2560x1440 (In South Korea) its an, unknown brand to me, called a Yamakasi Catleap 2703, Its also 27 inch and LED, no contrast on it so far. $340 delivered? It'll take 2 weeks, but still.

So that's that. Otherwise I suppose I could just get two more of my current monitor, but the maths in terms of cost, desk realestate, gaming grunt required, don't make sense, although I might be able to get GT5... oh yeah 2 more consoles or something really stupid? Anyway.

Myself and my mate have always had dells (once they became available). If you have the coin try the Dell UltraSharp U2713HM or the Dell UltraSharp U2713H.

No, I've only used GT5 on 1080p displays. I run 2 PS3's, 1 on 46" Sony led an the other on 24" Dell U2410.

Ok, just looking for people that've used higher than 1080p, thanks though.

PS3/bluray and hdmi are limited to 1080p.

if your new monitor has inbuilt upscaling (I would think so) it should be fine

That sounds good, I'll make sure I investigate that.

Even 720p at 1080p (eg many PS3 games) look quite fuzy, so I'm hoping the upscalling would look good.

This is why I'd really like to hear from someone who's done this, even 1600 with black bars at the bottom, anything.

I'll try plugging my PS3 into my 1920x1200 monitor if that would help you at all, but obviously that's a different aspect ratio so if the image ends up stretched that might not be anything to do with the higher than 1080p resolution.

Maybe try overclock.net, a bunch of them have bought these and have consoles.

The catleap 2703 is 1440p only, no upscaling and requires dual dvi.

Catleap q271 supports HDMI and upscales.

Appreciate it, I have a feeling though that you'll just end up with a couple of black bars considering it's the same width? Just a thought.

This is very helpful, thank you! Looks like I should hunt down this guy instead, hopefully its still a reasonable price :)

Maybe, but maybe it'll stretch the image instead... Who knows? All I know is someone nabbed my spare HDMI cable so I can't check tonight.

cheers Neema, no rush man, whenever you get a chance, results will be interesting to read about.
