Hi Guys,
I did a google search and found this thread, so far I find it the most informative in regards to this topic, so here goes.
This is directed to
Jeep2008 about the following issue
richardw
I have 2 profiles setup on my Fat. One is for my UK account and the other for my US account with all my Rock Band DLC purchases.
Am I correct in thinking I do not need to set these up again on the Slim if I connect them with the ethernet and use the transfer utility?
Will it transfer everything and create both accounts on the Slim?
your response was
Jeep2008
Many thanks
Yes,just remember to sync the accounts before starting the transferring, cheers!
My problem is the same as richardw
I currently have 2 profiles on my old/source PS3 one is my AUSTRALIAN account and the other is my US account. I obviously want to transfer both so I don't loose my PSN purchased games on both accounts.
in your response to richardw you said just remember to sync your accounts.
The questions I have is...
(Q1) at what point to you sync accounts? if I create an account or accounts on the New/Destination PS3 that are the same name and email, as the old/source PS3, will that conflict with each other?
I don't want to get some message like 'that account is already created'
I have no idea if that would happen, just throwing it out there, as I just don't want to get locked out and have to create a new account and loose all my old games, saves etc
could you shed some light on this?
Also In relation to that...
When you first start your PS3 you have to create an account. Now say you name it Geoff, Now you do have to create an email as well for that account don't you? say the email is
geoff@gmail.com
Now the 'Geoff' part, is that your profile for your console and the email part is for your PSN account.
Is it possible to create the 'Geoff' part without creating the
geoff@gmail.com for your PSN account? I ask this because, what if you don't sign into PSN when creating the 'Geoff' part.
Am I mistaken? Is it the case when you create the 'Geoff' part it will force you to give an email address, but in regards to signing into PSN that is a separate thing altogether and you do not have to sign in, when creating an account.
I ask this because it is the signing in part that would create the possible 'conflict' with usernames that I discussed in (Q1) I just wanted to know in case there is a way around this, should there be 'conflicts' when doing a system 'transfer' from my old PS3 to my new PS3
(Q2) Is it possible to just backup your old PS3's HDD and then boot up your new PS3 and just restore your HDD backup on your new PS3?
If not, I have a rather complicated process to do when in regards to my data transfer from old PS3 to new PS3. This is how I would think it would go.
(a) I would back up my HDD on the OLD/SOURCE PS3
(b) Update my New PS3 to latest system update. In order to do this I am uncertain if I can create the same account name and PSN email as my OLD PS3 for the same issue as pointed out in Question (Q1)
(c) I would Upgrade my New PS3 HDD to 1TB, not sure if I have to create an account to do this, once again I want to avoid 'conflicts'
(d) My new PS3 is ready and I would follow the steps to prepare for the transfer, transfer the data
I just thought of something...
Is there such a thing as you master account on a PS3? and all the rest are slave accounts?
Currently my OLD PS3 has two accounts, if there is a master and slave situation my AUSTRALIAN account would be master and my US account would slave. They do have full permissions though, but I am not sure if that is all that is important when it comes to accounts.
On my new PS3, if I create a new account. do all the things that I want to do to prepare it, get the latest system update, upgrade to 1TB HDD, preparations for system transfer etc
Once I do the system transfer, will my new account on the new PS3 be a master account and my two old accounts from my old PS3 be slave accounts.
Or this concept of master and slave doesn't apply, as long as you have full permissions on my accounts it does matter, the permissions is how it works not master and slave, does this sound right?
I guess creating a new account on my new PS3 and having my old accounts fully restored is fine. While it may not be as neat, having a 3rd account that I wouldn't use, I guess it really makes no difference.
In the end with all I have said, It is the creating of accounts that has me worried, but sorry for saying this for the upteenth time.
