Swapped out my 320 GB for a 640 GB last week on my Triple. It had 3.55 on it, but I still didn't need to do that step...I had to. Maybe it has something to do with the latest PS3 updates.. and with older versions you didn't have to do that step.
Got a question about replacing the HDD for a used one with data on it.
The following just happend. My PS3 turned itself off and the red standby light flickerd. After some searching on the internet i found out it was overheated. And can't get to work anymore. It is an old FAT one 40 GB. I replaced that one for a 250 GB couple of weeks before the release of GT5. Cos i might run out of space. I just ordered a new slim PS3 and was wondering if i could replace the HDD for the one with all my data on it out of my old FAT one, without having to format it. Cos if i have to format the HDD i lose al the data.
So if anyone can help me out with this.
Thanks
The only option is to transfer the data between the PS3's with a ethernet cable if the fat can work long enough(you can try replacing the thermal paste, there is a guide on ifixit and just go down to step 32, you remove the thermal paste and apply new thermal paste). I'm pretty sure if you can get the thermal paste replaced then it can last the data transfer process.
You can't, basically.
