Ps4 pro super sampling mode

I have a ps4 pro and use it on a 1080p display and the game has always been set to prioritise graphics and if I remember correctly the game has always super sampled. But with 5.50 they introduced super sampling for Everyeverything. It may just be eyes after playing different games but I feel with the option turned on the game seems way sharper than usual.

Upon doing some digging if you have it set to super sample through the ps4 itself then edit the settings in game it gets set to 4k and framrate and cannot be changed to quality unless you disable super sampling. It does seem though that if you disable the super sampling change the game back to quality then 're enable super sampling you seem to get a sharper image. Again it could just be eyes after playing games that are not as great visually lately. Anyone else check this to confirm.

I've got PS4 pro with 1080p TV, I switched on super sampling in the PS4 settings and didn't really notice any TV difference...

BUT, putting PSVR on, I doubt its just placebo, everything looked better in PSVR.
I fired up Dirt Rally VR and everything looked better, to the extent that I noticed the graphics look a bit arcadey compared to GTS
I fired up Driveclub VR and omg the cars interior looks more on par with GTS now, and I could see where I'm going without looking at the mini map.

This can't all be placebo.

Check cockpit on TV I feel like that's where it's most noticeable

I didn't get a chance to look at cockpit on TV, will check it out tomorrow..

Anyone else tried PSVR since the 5.50 update on PS4 Pro? Was it my imagination or is it clearer?

I'm 50years old, have been sitting for 10+ hrs a day in front of a computer at work for over 26 years, have cataracts, and early signs of glaucoma... wear +2.75 power spectacles, sit 4 feet away from a 65" OLEG and...
game looks great!

Wasn't saying the game didn't look great. Sony implememted system wide super sampling today and with it on when using 1080p it seems sharper than the in game super sampling.

Will check it. I have a 1080p monitor and I use quality for playing, frame rate mode for replays. Thanks

When you do it make sure your game is set to quality first and return to menu and let it save before closing application. Then go into display on ps4 and turn it on. That way the game is still locked to quality. Otherwise for some reason it will lock it to frame rate. I feel like it seems sharper but it could just be placebo and me playing less sharp games.

GTS is reaaallyy sharper than other games. I play Ride2 or even PCars 1, and the difference is big.

I'll try this new mode, but I can't imagine how it can be sharper than what it is (on 1080p screen).

When I logged into GTS I noticed a PS4 notification in the top left of screen saying 'Supersampling mode enabled' or words to that effect.
In the older games Driveclub VR and Dirt Rally VR I didn't get a notification, but I feel certain I see a difference to pre patch.

I had a look at cockpit view, but I never really looked at it pre patch, it does look really crisp, though that's mostly after playing PSVR.

I was wondering about this too. Previously I always used Prioritise Quality (unlike GT5/6 I never noticed any frame rate issues with GTS so Prioritise FR is essentially useless for me). I tried Supersampling without entering display assistant (so it stays Prioritise Quality), and then tried Supersampling on its own (enter display assistant, game recognises as 4K, and locked to Prioritise FR). Seems sliiiightly better and smoother image with "double" supersampling (SS + PQ). Can't say 100% that it's not placebo effect though. We probably need Digital Foundry to definitively test out this stuff.

GTS just already looks too damn good I don't think whichever setting or TV you choose will make it look bad

Should it not be the other wat round Quality for Replays and frame for gaming, Is the Pro really worth it is it much more of a boost and is the system quieter? from the sceen shots I have seen on games its not a big diffrence I have a 4K TV with HDR.

For me the HDR has really made the games stand out, it would be nice to see some side by sde screen shots of 4K and 2K.

Also the standard PS4 only fram skips or screen tears when the game is busy, GT5/6 on PS3 had really bad Tears on 1080 mode.

Every title I play the Supersampling message pops up (I'm a Sony Beta tester so have been on it for over a month), I think it just does it anyway regardless of if it makes a difference or not.

I don't know if it is worth it. I recently upgraded, my standard PS4 was having issues. I am using 1080P, the game is noticeably sharper and smoother. The fans are noisy at times tho. It is quicker between functions and downloads are quicker. The image quality really is that much better, even in 1080P. But, if you don't have a reason to upgrade or are iffy about spending the money... I wouldn't bother. I only did because of my issues with standard. Figured if I was replacing, might as well upgrade.

So, advise me.
PS4pro ran through some fancy receiver that I'm not knowledgeable on... and LG OLED... what should my settings in game be?

Framerate mode adds some motion blur to the image when racing, also overall menus, in game 3d models show more jagged edges more noticiable in cockpit view.

So I prefer to play with a better image quality. I wouldn't mind to have motion blur when playing but it's not present with quality mode.

But watching replays at 60 fps with framerate mode is really amazing. It adds a bit of motion blur but not that much as in quality mode.
The only time I use quality for replays is when I want to upload a video to Youtube through the PS4. It uploads it at 1080p/30fps so better to use that.
For example:

If I remember correctly , GTS supports super sampling right out of the box .The patch basically tricks your ps4 to run in 4k mode when connected to 1080p displays . Some games would super sample by default , others wouldn't giving you zero pro benefits .

I tried it and it was really jerky, even the car animations it plays on the home screen, you know where it shows the latest car pack cars driving about, that was stuttering like crazy...

Thought it was terrible so turned it off.

I've just tested it and set it how you told me. I think you're right the image quality improves with that option enabled. The objects in the long distances appears now more clearly. Car model edges are even more softer. Nearly unnoticiable jaggies.
