This could be a likelihood with news from Sony saying the PS4 will have a shorter life cycle than PS3, with publishers like EA chipping in it could be 5 years. It will be different by market area with the UK being highlighted by Sony as a region where the demand is strong for new hardware and the PS5 will come to fulfill that demand.
With PS5 likely to be a continuation of x86 hardware, PS5 would be backwards compatible and also seamless in software development from PS4 to PS5, with that in mind I can imagine GT8 being a launch title for PS5, coming with a 3 or 4 year gap after GT7.

Included are sources for potential 5 year/2018 PS5.
Further question and speculation is my own based on this information. It seems logical and likely. Not candidate to be locked.
