OK, so it's been a while since I started the last PSC competition. It's amazing how a busy schedule and no personal computer for a month can catch up so quickly. Again, my apologies about this, but there have been more pressing things to deal with lately.

Read this:

As per request,
The Car: 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z51

This week is going to be unique. Two pictures in one. I've posted a Front & Rear 3/4 view of the 'Vette, and I would politely ask that if you're going to enter one, then you do both. It requires more time and skill to make everything match when you're doing two of everything. That's the fun part.
Whenever enough people get both entries in, I'll post the poll. As is the trend lately, I'll probably end up being the last in line.
Images do not have to be resized, but I ask that you also submit a thumbnail for polling purposes. Please mark your final entry as such in bold red writing.
Lastly, please don't post thumbnails for your final entry. Full pictures, only.

Have at 'em!

EDIT - I've decided to make the final image size bigger. Original size will do for the final entry you post, but I ask that you also attach a thumbnail for use in the poll. When you're working with an image this big, you're putting more detail than you would in a smaller image, so I figure that a bigger entry size will help show this off.
Final size for entries is 1920x1200 or smaller, with a mandatory attached thumbnail.

Thoughts?

Mods:
CF Hood
CF A-Pillar
CF Roof
Blue indicators and running lights
Smoked foglamps w/ blue bulbs
Modified grille
Modified front lip
Modified side skirts
Shaved door handle and gas cap
Side intake
Paint colour(s)
Wheels

That's all so far...

pretty slick :sly:
but the CF looks pretty fake, nice color change though.
And i got a question. Does it have to be 2 separate pics or can both cars appear together in one?

Used a half ass tool for the color so I'm gonna have to redo that... Along with the wheels too. Anyway, WIP. BTW, welcome back slick and that looks good so far.

Your image is so large slicks that my little 15" monitor can't handle all of its glory on the screen at once. I resize all of mine to 800X600. I am going to get to work on these babies.

The hood doesn't look great, but it's my first attempt at CF.

I suppose they can appear together in one pic, sure. The original size limit of 1920x1200 still applies, though.

breakpoint, Do you resize before or after working on the picture? 15" is pretty small, but the extra detail you get if you keep it big while working on it pays off, IMHO.

Well when i upload it to photobucket it resizes it to that default, but im sure there is a setting to set it to another size. If not then i will just use...imagehack...

Man what a great time for my CS2 to decided to have corrupt reg entries and not start up...sigh. I am going to have to use PS elements on this picture. Geeze :(

I don't know about the entire car being CF, it makes it look flat. Only thing im giving away about my rear end is that i am using my states tag on the vett. Thought it would give it a personal touch.

How exactly do u mean looks flat? Not enough reflections and such?

Pretty much. It just has a dull flat look to it because of the CF. But it's your car not mine. There can always be too much of a good thing though. But you did a good job with the CF though.

fine then, i'll just show what i have :P click for full res:

i just realised i did the colors backwards on the reverse-view one. Its the same model, dif. paint

man havent done this in a while, what happened on 144 no pole? i think i´ll give this one a try, maybe win for once :)

slides i think u should change the rims, doesnt really match the whole carbon fiber thing u got going on.

Sammi those rims from a Porsche?

If my main resource sites were still around, I'd jump in and show you guys how this stuff is supposed to be done. I might just give it a shot and see what I can pull out of the shed. As it stands, here are my critiques:

  • Slidesquad, either figure out a way to make the CF's contours match the contours of the car, or do something else. Right now your chop looks really fake (a lot of pixellation around the edges of the panels and stuff, and the rims appear to have been blown up considerably).
  • Suzq, your image shows that you've been saving all your drafts as Jpegs and working with the drafts instead of a cleaner original image. Are you using an older editing program (I used to do that myself until I got photoshop)?
  • Sammi, no offense, but your chop looks a little primitive (it was overly smoothed, and looks like something from one of my late '90s racing games). From here, I hope you're going to add some color and other details, as nothing stands out about that image.
  • DWA, your Jpeg image deterioration is even worse than Suzq's was, and considering all you did was a recolor, wheels, and a removal of the Corvette symbol, I don't understand how that could've come about. Then again, you did say something had to be redone.
  • Slicks, you did a pretty good job overall. Nice recolor, nice rims, and some good mods in general. Still, I don't know that blue indicators are street legal, nor that I've ever seen a CF roof or A-Pillar. Also, I wouldn't think that a car like this would need a rear intake, as the engine is in the front (and without some clever ductwork, I wouldn't think that good for anything but downforce). The skirt mods you made aren't bad, either, and I'm guessing you did them after you drained the color out of the image. For you, I'm gonna focus on some of the details I'm seeing, as you appear to be a cut above the rest (no offense). On the front left well, there's a good deal of pixellation behind the wheel. Also, towards the front of the skirt there's a little bump there that looks like you had a mishap with the poly lasso tool. The skirt below the door has an extra lip that I don't think quite fits, and as a final critique the blending you did on the rear wheel isn't convincing (look at where you added the intake along the edge and down the skirt - it looks cartoonish).

...now that I've given so much criticism, I guess I'll have to open that toolshed. Let's see what I can do with this thing, eh?

EDIT:
After a couple hours, this is what I've got:

preview1.jpg

MODS MADE:
- Lowered car
- Fixed contrast issues in image via curves
- Added NSX front
- Cleared license plate

NEXT STEPS:
- Clean up front bumper
- Recolor and recenter front to match car
- Blend and smooth the rough spots
- Recolor car
- Fog headlamps and turn them on
- Change rims
- Enhance interior
- Change background & blend
- Change skirts to match new front

POSSIBILITIES:
- CF mirrors and/or hood
- Add spoiler
- Add hood air intake
- Add decals

More to come when there is more to show.

Only time i work on old drafts is when i cant find the original -- as I've said before; I have been working with photoshop for over 10 years :) this is a 2hr job, so its not that quality.

Go for it, Diego.

I, however, may not be able to do much with this comp in the next little while. Entrywise, that is. I've been up-to-my-eyeballs busy, and while there is a slight chance that I'll have some time on the weekend, I'm doubting it.
Real life comes first.

wow... almost missed it.

I wanted to do a bit more to the background... which I was planning on doing tomorrow, but just remembered tis due today.

had a bit of an issue with the front end being a different shade of yellow than teh rest of the car... but then again, I wanted to do more and just submitted it now, so despite it being a final entry, it's still an unfinishied deal... if it's alright, I may re-submit a finished version... if I can find the time as well :P

No, it's not due today. Or anytime soon, in all liklihood.
Take your time, because I haven't got any with which to do anything w/ this thread.
