"Full Realism"

Ever wanted to run a realistic full length Nascar race at Indy with full power and minimum downforce? Well, here's your chance.

This will be a single, one-off spot race not related to any of the existing GTP NASCAR series, or any current or past PURE sanctioned series. Anyone may join so long as committed to clean racing.

Date and time:

Saturday, October 27th
Green Flag: 21:00 UTC (5:00 PM EDT, 2:00 PM PDT, 10:00 PM BST)
Room opens: 20:00 UTC
Qualifying begins: 20:40 UTC

Rules and regulations:

  • Any NASCAR race car available in GT5 is allowed to participate. 2010 and 2011 models are both legal, GameStop Camry included (List of entries below).
  • Cars will be run at full power, with oil change and 300KM break-in, at 892 hp
  • Cars MUST run with minimum (20/40) aero.. PP will be restricted to 632 PP, and HP and weight checks will be used to catch any cheats.
  • Only Racing Hard tires will be permitted. No other tire compounds of any kind may be used at any time.
  • All driving aids will be disabled, ABS included.
  • Mechanical and Visual damage is OFF
  • Fuel consumption and tire wear are ON
  • Grip Reduction is set to Real
  • Slipstream is set to Weak
  • Disable Collisions will be OFF during the race, but ON during qualifying.
  • Boost is Off (lol)
  • Mics will be kept On to aid in communication during the race
  • RACE CLEAN - It's OK (and expected) to let off of the gas (or even lightly brake) so you don't run over someone in a turn. This is especially true at oval tracks, where high-speed drafting can cause issues with drivers being spun out in corners.
  • No speed limit is enforced upon entering pit road. Be warned that GT5 can sometimes assess its own penalty for entering pit road too quickly, but it is entirely dependent on the track and where your pit box is located specifically. Please give other drivers space and courtesy to enter pit road safely.
  • While exiting pit road, drivers should use the entire pit exit road until the back straightaway.
  • NO CAUTIONS - use this as an extra motivation to RACE CLEAN.

Qualifying
  • Qualifying will be held 20 minutes before the race starts and will last for 15 minutes, during which time, everyone is allowed on track to set a lap.
  • You are not permitted to exit into the lobby at any time, for any reason after you have joined the track. Stay on the track in a safe place, or stay in the pits until the session is over.
  • At the end of the session I will type in the chat "Quali is over. Please finish your lap and go to the pits."
  • I will exit and go into "watch race" mode, write down everyone's times.
  • I will then get into the pits and start the race

Rolling start
  • This race will have a rolling start, with a side-by-side formation
  • If the grid order is wrong when the race starts, use this time to sort yourselves and get in order.
  • Maintain a pace speed of 60 mph / 100 km/h
  • Polesitter, and all odd cars will start on the inside of the track, even cars will start on the outside
  • Absolutely no weaving on the formation lap; it does more harm than good
  • Starting point TBD

Not 100% if I can make it, but if I am free I will be there.

Reserve the #18 for me please, and I will let you know if I can/can't make it.

I am unsure whether I could do it or not. Maybe if the was shorter I would. Anyway good luck with it MULE.

This will be a blast, can't wait. May need to work on my car setup for the new specs though.

Hey guys are some Nascar chassis better than others? I would like to sign up, but I only have the Dale Jr Chevy which I heard people saying its not that great.

Gonna need to pick a different car. That's already taken.

Iforcev8 ran a 48.17 I think. I did a few laps and was hitting about the same time. I think the key here is tire wear. Burt speed is kind leveled by the draft.

I'm surprised this hasn't got more Sprint Cup signups to be honest; maybe people have missed it. You should plug this in the thread Mule, Drop won't mind.

Same here, I did some laps yesterday, best was 47.8 with regular 48.1's.

A small problem though, I can get the Camry down to 633pp with minimal d/f (20-40) and maximum power (892bhp), but not 632pp - while the Impala can. I can only imagine that the weight distribution in the Camry is slightly more to the rear compared to the Chevy, I haven't checked this yet though.

I just burnt off a set of tires real quick just to get some info on the track and chassis, and I finished up with a 49.940 being my best time without tuning yet. The real issue is going to be pit stradegy around here. I was hoping to get 40 Laps out my tires so it could be a simple 3 stop stradegy, but I came up 5 Laps short of that target so I will be focusing on pit window for a 4 stopper now. Plus I never had to consider this much fuel usage also so this will be a challanging event it looks like'

I've not raced full power in ages, and have always run with full downforce at Indy. Nice to mix it up sometimes. 👍

Time to dust off the old full power setup and see if I can make it turn with minimum aero.

EDIT: 48.183 after some testing.

Yea these cars actually handle pretty well here without the downforce. I'm still trying to figure out should I down shift into 3rd or just roll off and on the throttle in 4th gear which is what I perfer to do'

I think staying in 4th is probably best.

I did a tyre run and pitted at the end of lap 32, though I probably had another 2 or 3 laps before a right-side tyre ran out completely. My laptimes dropped down into 50.xxx laps after 20 laps, and 51.xxx laps after 25.

With my laptimes dropping off badly after that many laps, and with the added affect of the increased tyre wear from dirty air in the draft/slipstream, I'm considering doing 6 (every 28-29 laps) or 7 stops (every 25 laps). This seems like an obvious choice (6 stops), but I think the dirty air could make 7 stops the better choice.

Yup so I'm out, I just caught wind that my daugter is coming over that weekend which means no GT5 till Monday.

Sorry Fellas I really wanted to do this 1'
