How do you race with a car that loose? I tried it
in the Cup race after I got it from Kartman and was wrecking in every turn.

LoL I thought it was a lil pushy till tires warned up.

Curious to know whether the upcoming update will affect handling characteristics. Getting the feeling that it will. I might do a quick test tonight.

Never mind. The update's already out. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Suppose I'll get a feel for the patch when I do the shakedown practice this week. Not really expecting it to have much effect on stock street cars though. I just hope the "new tire wear" fixes the sound bug. That thing is killing me slowly. :(

btw, I updated the points standings last night.

Suggestion. Do not reset track with racers on it or in pits. Ensure they are all off track prior to reset. This has netted us no tire noise problems in other rooms. ;)

However hopefully it's fixed for good and no jumping through hoops.

This "draft in free run" is going to make qualifying interesting at High Speed Ring.

You guys can't run qualifying as before, otherwise it's going to just come down to whoever's lucky enough, or nasty enough, to leach a draft off of others. Should you do split group qualifying, maybe 4 groups to ensure no one's drafting off eachother?

From what I see, we can just have "Disable Collisions" to "On" during the Q session. That supposedly turns off the slipstream.

But turning it back reloads the track doesn't it? Then the results from q may be gone.

Tim's been tracking the times for every Q session, so I don't really see a difference, at least for this series.

As long as turning collisions off turns the draft off also, it's an easy fix with manual gridding. You sure collisions being off does that?

It says so on the description that scrolls at the bottom of the screen. Haven't tested it yet.

Yeah I got to see it for myself after trying the update. That way it'll be easy. Just manual gridding all the time is all that's needed.

My little review of last week's races...

Elise was awesome. I think I may have done a .5 at one point, not sure how!

NSX was awesome. Least favourite combo going into the race, but it turned out to be the most action packed. I started 8th and was 5th by the second corner thanks to people running out wide, especially Rich who I think was seeing if there was a gap in one of the outer fences ;P I was behind Owens happy to get used to the car and then he half spun ;[ Then I had a nice battle with Tim and a great battle with Brock to the end of the race.

Scuderia was awesome. And I have to say I feel for you Brock you have some real tough luck :ouch:. It would have been a cracking final race. I think I made up a 10 second gap to Rich, and then he started pulling it back so I thought I'd try open it up again and all I did was make mistakes! Nice run there Rich. 👍

Awesome races, as usual. Hopefully there'll be a few more people for this week's triplet. :)

Early reports are saying it's fixed. (which I tend to believe since they added a layer to the tire sound and changed the wear rates... so it would be silly if they re-coded stuff and left that glitch in there). 👍

This "draft in free run" is going to make qualifying interesting at High Speed Ring.

I need to do some testing but I was planning on using "race with no collision" as qualifying. This way we get no-draft, no-traffic, and a replay for handing out any infraction points after the fact for corner cuts. So we've got the eye-in-the-sky on quali now, which just wasn't practical in free-run.

From what I hear 'collision-disabled' still adds miles though, so I'm going to have to still keep track of time and have everyone quit-out to make sure we don't spoil the 0-mile engine. But it should still work out well. Only real down-side is that if you don't make it on-track for the beginning of Q you'll miss the whole session.

Great idea man. I didn't even think about the fact that the collision option can be used as a pseudo draft-off switch. Brilliant. Being able to view the replay of "qualifying" and keep a record of all the times through it is a definitely plus as well, besides the other big ones you mentioned. Nothing but positives I can think of for it.
The downside you mentioned makes being in the room on time a lot more important, so good yeah? B)
But there is a contingent that can be made. You can split qualifying into two separate 5 minute qualifying sessions as you've done before but with every one qualifying at the same time (since you can now). All you have to do is back out to record the times before the session's over, then start the next session right away. This way, if someone can't make it in before the first session starts, they can still make the second. And it also has the benefit of providing a second chance for anyone that's disconnected from the first qualifying run. Too much?

Quick question on track boundaries:
1697179-high_speed_ring_3_super.jpg

If you look up by the guardrail you can see that gray stuff outside white line, is that classified as a rumble strip?
I was doing some testing after 2.08 and was running 1:14.2 in the Aston and 1:13.0 in the Jaguar using them as rumble strips.
It is a really simple track but the Jag was a little tail happy riding the high line.

Wouldn't be "too much" if the tire sound bug is still around. But if early reports of it being fixed are true I'd rather just run one Q. Though that also depends on how annoying the ghost cars are. "virtual traffic" may still be enough of a problem to warrant splitting the short-tracks into two groups when we're > 10 racers.

I'm going to be testing this in shakedown on Thursday. Even if it's the usually quiet 3-5 people we'll still get a good feel for how well the ghosts work.

Now I'm hearing that everything has a bit more grip than before so I also need to revisit some tire choices. The 512BB might be going back down to C3 if they're stickier. That is probably the only *big* change that would happen to the future line-up.

Yeah, just keep it off the guard-rail.

Sorry I have been absent this season, I just booked work the next two Saturdays so I am going to officially pull out of series. Good luck the rest of the way. 👍

sure, I'll drop you off. Thanks for letting me know.

Also I've re-opened registration for the second half of the season if anyone want's to get in.

Did some practice today:

Aston - 1:14.057 - Having issues with the last corner. Requires a late-entry, which I don't do well. 4/4 BB atm.

Jaguar - 1:12.687 - Understeer galore followed by sudden loss of rear traction, especially exiting the S. Went to 4/5 which helped somewhat.

M5 - 1:36.312 - As always, Bit-Kurve throws me a curveball as does the last chicane. Still tinkering with the brakes, but think I had 3/4 when I ran that .312

my early testing was:

High Speed Ring Rev | DB9 Coupe '06 | S1 | 1:16.033
High Speed Ring | XKR Coupe '10 | S1 | 1:15.087
Nurburgring GP/D | M5 '08 | S2 | 1:37.132

---

So you're absolutely destroying me on HSR.
Unless the tires have that much more grip in 2.08.

Given the time Travis posted earlier (1:14.2/1:13.0), and what I read in the threads, we do have more grip.

(though it doesn't feel like I have any with the Jag)

That Jag lap is impressive, I could never get a clean exit out of the S turns.

Good practice... I really needed that. I'm such a fish out of water on banking and oval related racing.
So far I'm a big fan of the new patch.

I'll update the Quali procedure in the OP tomorrow.
Basically we'll just be using a no collision race rather than free-run... although, collision disabled appears to affect free-run as well. so it's basically a global draft on-off switch.

If I could only ride the high line all the way for T1 with the Aston. All the times I've tried it, I hit an undulation at the exit, which shoves me right into the wall.

Other than that, I'm ready for the High Speed Lottery.

I hit the high line right a few times, was up .255 on my 13.9 in T1, I felt I left .3 in T2 and .3 in T3 (based on your sector) so a 13.0 or even a 12 is doable.

The trick to the high line is pushing the car into a very small drift on exit. That way it when it naps lose the cars is already balanced.
