Race 2... Room up! 👍

RACE 2 | CIRCIUT SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS | SUNDAY, JUNE 24th

ROOM NUMBER: 1472-6681-3286-8590-5238

Rules and Procedures:

*Standard OLR rules apply.
*No chat during quali or race if not important for the race to run smoothly.
If you can't see another car, or if another car appears to jump due to lag, that's a good reason to use the chat. Before the race, I'd appritiate if we could keep of the chat as much as possible. It will make it easier for me as a host to get any information out (Voice chat will be disabled).

*Quali:
-I'll reset the track at 16.40 PM GMT.
From here, the track is open for 15 minutes for you to set the best lap possible.
-At 16.55, I'll start the race.
-It's adviced that you enter the room at 16.35 at the very latest.

*Formationlap:
-Once the countdown timer reach zero, DO NOT MOVE!
-Cars will take off 1 by 1 in a slow and steady pace.
-Pole car will act as pace car. He must not exceed 62 mph (100 km/h), and must keep a steady pace.
-The cars can initially roll single file, but a few turns before the startline, form a 2 lane grid.
-Polesitter decides wich side he want, and the rest sort themselves accordingly.
-Once the pole car reach the startline (For Indy, the startline is the "brick yard" as always. At Spa, pole car will pass the standard startline, pass T1, and are free to start the race once he reach to TOTAL sign just prior Eau Rouge), he floors it and the race is "GREEN"!
-No overtaking prior the startline under any curcuimstance.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you're not the pole car, make sure you do not floor it until the car ahead of you do.
In other words, DO NOT look at the pole car if you're 3rd or below, just look at the car holding the position ahead of you, and when he goes, so can you.
We use this method to get a good staggered start, where the cars line up nicely.
The race is 175 km, so a steady pace will win the race.. Not a few inches in T1. 👍

Happy racing!! :gtplanet:  :gtplanet:

I have to finish some stuff around the house, I won't make q but will try to be there for the race. Not sure.

Lot of fun yesterday, I will say I wasnt ready for these cars. Been doing lots of low hp sport and comfort tire racing. Big difference like you said.

Great shots.

BTCC running late due to a car going on fire so can't make it sorry :(. (Also we are going out for KFC after it :sly:)

Will, we start the quali at 17.00 sharp. You'll might make it then?
I'm waiting for Remy, Racingworld68 and Eddie.. I doubt Eddie will make it though

BTCC just finished and OMG what a race! (Seriously it was a cracker, deffo one of the best races this year easily and I strongly advise you to find race 3 on Youtube! :D)

I think we are just going out in a sec so not sure will check and update.

Edit: Yes we are so can't make, have fun guys.

I just can't manage the rear tires to save my life.
I always need one more stop, today I didn't take it and got the same result due to spins and laps that felt like a wet track. Grip just seems to fall off a cliff once the tires wear down below ~%30. I'd run 4 or 5 2:10 laps then suddenly have no brakes and a wild ride for 2:15-2:20.

I'll try another car without the rigidity increase, see if that reduces the wear a bit... if not I'm afraid I'm out for this series. :(

You use Ridgity Tim?
You should defenetly take it off.. And use a soft, stable setup. 👍

Great race guys! 👍

The cars are tough to drive fast, and at the same time save the tyres. I think I found a decent setup though.
I've always been an early braker, and calm thru the corners. I think that helps me a lot with these beasts.

Official results will be up within an hour or two.

And well done to the winner... By 50 seconds..
*drums*
Yea, you got it...

Tony!!

Gratz, and boy what a performance!! 👍

Feedback on the cars?

Personally, I think the Vette had the upper hand. At least to day.
Cause my best was 1,5 off.. And usually, I'm ,8-1,0 behind Tony..
And I did a good race.
If we compare with yesterday, I was 0,6 behind.. So that also indicates that the vette is a tad faster on both tracks..

Opinions?

Yeah, I always use the chassis upgrade on race-cars, lets the car be higher-softer and basically no ARB. Might not work well on the zonda though.

So, as I said earlier.. I'm thinking that I'm going to slow the vette down a tad. Either thru cutting power, or by cutting DF.

So either cut it down to 722/712 bhp, or reduce the aero to 30/55.
Any suggestions?

I had 514bhp on my vette.

The zonda seems to have super acceleration and also more Tyre wear.

Taking off downforce I'm not sure about as I just struggled with the front end of the vette it just didn't want to turn in, but that's prob down to setup lol

732 is the first, original spec..
And "new specs" are @ 722 bhp, and 33/58 DF.

What's your PP @ 714bhp?

Oh, I edited my post after your post.. I typed old numbers initially, so edited in the new ones after you posted.. Take a look again. 👍

I'm actually thinking we go the other way.
Add power and weight to the Zonda. That way we have some ballast to move forward to try and cut some of the rear tire wear issues. (or at least increase the front wear, the problem I was having is that they're just so uneven, the handling gets really tricky when the fronts are @ 60% and the rears are @ 30%)

I bought another Zonda without the rigidity++ that I've got to break in, so I was thinking about doing some testing tonight if anyone wants some short single-stint racing.

There's obviously something wrong with what I'm doing though. I ran 2:08.5 in quali and then in the race I dialed it back to 2:10 race pace and still had massive wear issues while you (dennis) were running much faster than me AND longer.

oh, I wouldn't take any aero off the vette. It's already down on the zonda and it's no fun policing spec aero.

Yes, perhaps.. But the lower weight actually help the wear for the Zonda imo.

About the Vettes aero.. I don't judge the numbers in the settings meny, I judge the ability to go thru turns.. And as it seems (I will do proper testing later on), the Vette is much more stable thru the turns.
But I agree that reducing aero is not optimal.

At around what time do you plan to get on?
I'll might be able to join if it's not too late..

I have a late change I'm doing on a remote system a little after 7PM Eastern. I was thinking after that but if you want to get together I could do 5PM til I get a phone call after 7.

*that would be 1 hour from this post-time*

I'm around.. But gf is home now.. Going to watch a movie before we go to bed.
But it wiuld be awesome if you tryed your idea (weight and power added to the Zonda) and posted some results for me to use when I get on in about 12 hours from now. 👍

I just ran an 11 lap with the no-rigidity at indy ... you should just ban that. The wear is a ton better without it. It has less mechanical grip so its harder to drive in general but it doesn't chew through the rears as quickly. I was able to still do consistent 1:30 on laps 10 and 11 @ indy.

Tried it again with a better setup and ran low 1:26's early then 1:27's from lap 4-9 before it started to drop off. But it's no where near as "cliff like" as with the extra chassis stiffening.

Gave it a whirl @ 30kg of ballast @ -33 (which is where I assume the front axle is) and 729hp (since it's an even step in the menu) So 729/1100
car is rock stable with the weight on the nose even though it only shifts the balance by 1%

I don't have a vette to run it against but I'd recommend giving it a try. My lap times at indy went up a bit but I didn't tune out the extra understeer the weight gives it (I had to remove the front bias on the brakes from 6/4 to 5/5 while driving). Tire wear seemed pretty much the same; the fronts do wear more since they red-out sooner but I suspect the extra power cancels any wear benefit... Which leads us back to tinkering with the vette.

But fyi if you want to make the zonda "easier to drive" the ballast at -33 gives a hell of a lot of stability...

maybe only give it enough extra weight so that it shifts the weight bias 1% (that's probably less than the 30kg I tried)?

Thanks Tim! Really interesting stuff there! 👍

I'm going to get on in a few hours and do some proper testing.
Glad you found a way to reduce the wear.
I'm going to ban the Ridgity Improvement for the Zonda even though it's not policeable.. Cheating will be punishment enough.

IMPORTANT: I'm going to close this Spot Race Thread now. So discussions regarding the upcomming series will continue in the Interest Check Thread. 👍

I want to thank all participators for 2 really nice races that had high quality despite the relatively low turnout (6-8 drivers).
