Putting a tune together - Porsche RSR for Maggiore - professional tuners' input required

Hello all

I have never really played with tuning in prior GT games but having tried out MIKINIHL's tunes I am beginning to enjoy this aspect of the game. So here is a bit of a challenge to the professional tuners and a request for the amateurs like me to join in and do a group test session to refine the RSR.

Last night I tried 2 different ways of approaching the same track, Maggiore. I chose Maggiore because it has a lot of elevation changes, very slow corners, fast corners, dips, off camber corners and you need to ride the corners to get a fast one in. I also like the fact that the 4 sectors are spread out equally so you can really see where you are making or losing time.

I started with Time Trial in Arcade and then moved to a Lobby and set up a room with exactly the same perameters. So first question to the tuners out there, is where do you go to tune? Arcade or Lobby?

Track: Magiore
Car: Porsche RSR Gr.3
BoP: ON
Tyres: Racing Medium
Tire wear: Off (so that I can remove that variable while tuning)
Weight reduction: Stage 3
Power: Stage 3

I kicked off by putting on 10 laps using the stock settings - I managed one low 1:58.1XX, a load of 1:58.8XX and an annoying 1:59... So that would appear to be my current range.

I was hitting sector 1 at 0:31.5, sector 2 at 1:00.5 and sector 3 at 1:26 on most laps.

So now I want to tune it a bit. My goal is to try to shave 1-2 seconds AND maintain it's predictable nature and ability to punch in consistent laps.

My thoughts were to approach it as follows, feeding each one in one after the other:

1 - TCS
2 - break balance ( chose to focus on these to start with because you can adjust them in car)
3 - Gearbox (gut feel is this is where at least .5second is. Turn 2 (the hairpin) has me coming out outside of the powerband or hitting the rec limiter.)
4 - LSD
5 - Downforce
6 - all the rest of the stuff

What are the general thoughts on this approach?

What changes would you make? I shall take your advice and thoughts tonight and bang in some laps and report back tomorrow.

1 - TCS: iwould turn it off and get used to drive without
2 - break balance: If i make setups..i try to put the balance way back, because you have full corner entering controll without understeering.
3 - Normally iam only changing the first and last gear, first gear to have a good traktion without too much wheelspin and the last to get close to the rev limiter on the fastest point.
4 - LSD yeah here u have to put it that u feel confortable
5 - for me on most of tracks the 400/800 looks like working the best

TCS off is too much for me and my DS (and my +40 year old reflexes which are not exactly cat-like!) My main focus is not necessarily the fastest set up possible, but the fastest set up which suits my style and allows me to be consistent too.

Re the break balance, I started with rear, but this made the RSR feel less pointy and also more skittish accelerating hard after breaking. I have got to -3 front which really makes it nose in but gives smoother exits. Not noticeably faster but more consistent and enjoyable.

Thanks re the gears. They are next.
