So since the last Queen to make it was Victoria, and we now have Victoria Day in Canada, does that mean we'll have Elizabeth Day soon? I sure hope so. Any excuse to drink beer and grill animal flesh outside is a good one.

I'll be so glad not to be in the UK when all the tabloids are going mad. And the broadsheets. And the TV people. And the people running around outside celebrating an event which is just the passing of time. Why not say that the queen has been on the throne for 59 and most of another year today and call today her Bismuth Jubilee. I fail to understand what's so special about it.
I will be in the UK for the Olympics though. Gonna watch the cycling!

Do you guys really get excited about this?

Not in the slightest.

But I think it's an incredible achievement for Her Maj to reach, and I doubt I'll see another diamond jubilee in my lifetime...

Yes. 60 years of pampered luxury at the taxpayers expense. What an achievement.

That's his actual name. So if he was to become King, he would probably become Henry IX.

What a shame that his father never had a chance to name him... While I'm on the subject, apparently he was warned not to take a paternity test. Seems that if he found out the painstakingly obvious that everyone already knew about, he'd be expelled from the life of pampered luxury.

Still, maybe the name "Harry" was suggested by Mr Hewitt, and the term of endearment stuck.

And in case it wasn't painstakingly obvious, I couldn't care less about the spongers.

ooo you saved me from posting.. er doh!

OK, so it's Jubilee weekend. I know there are a couple of street parties in my small town and many more across the UK. Really brings out the patriotism even at my school as we had a non Uniform day today and a lot of people were wearing shirts with union jacks on them.

Gosh today is a washout! and apparently it could be even worse tomorrow. 60 Years in the making and sod's law it wasn't last weekend!

I guess we have had our week of UK summer already.

.... but your posting style kinda indicated that you are actually bothered about what they do.

So that would indicate you have some measure of "care" towards them, in terms of negativity. Which is a bit of a contradiction.

In my opinion i hate the fact that she gets a lot of special attention. I mean she was just born into the royal family so what makes her different from us. Why is it that if your in the royal family you get all these special things like a giant mansion. Im sure there are many ordinary people who may have done better for this country but cant as they are not born in the royal family. So thats why i didnt celebrate the diamond jubilee. She barely attempts to know the ordinary/working class people of this country so why bother celebrating. She lives on everyones hard earned tax so why should we be greatful for that. So anyways, thats just my opinion. If you agree, great. If you disagree i dont mind. Everyones entitled to their own opinion

To put things into perspective. Doctors, teachers, civil servants, firemen and many others are currently complaining that their retirement funds are changing. They'll have to contribute more and work longer until they reach retirement, maybe up to the age of 67.

The queen is 86. Philip is 91. I'm not saying they have a hard life, but they're still both doing an awful lot of functions and events every year as part of their duty to the country.

Yes they have a very privileged lifestyle, but the alternative is a president. And quite frankly I'd hate a politician as a figure-head of the nation. Yes it's democratic, but urgh, Cameron? Brown? Berlesconi?
