Hi guys and girls,

I am slowly learning performance driving with my newly purchased G25 steering wheel. There are lots of technical things I don't understand about driving race cars or high performing street cars at the limit around tracks. I am improving everyday with my heel and toe down shifting technique but there is one thing I don't understand but need a closer explanation. "WHAT IS DOUBLE CLUTCH TEHCNIQUE?" Why double tapping the clutch during the upshifting or downshifting, what's the purpuse of it, what performance benifit do I gain from it, what's the technical spesification for the trainy and engine while doing the double clutch technique etc. ???

In advance thank you for your time to explain this,

Jack

Basically double clutching is when you depress the clutch and shift into neutral, then match transmission input shaft speed with the engine speed and shift into the next gear up or down. Mainly it's used for semi trucks and cars with no synchros in the transmission.

You don’t need to double clutch for any car with synchros (in other words, every passenger vehicle made in the last million years), and you certainly don’t need it for a video game racing wheel.

Its a really slow shift that Honda guys like to do for some reason. They think that it gives an advantage, but its VERY slow.

....powershiftng is much better.:sly:

They do it to show off their mad skillz....... but as already said pointless unless you don't have syncro's, or you busted them.

Used on downchanges only...

Depress clutch
Select neutral
Release clutch
Blip throttle
Depress clutch
Select lower gear
Release clutch

As has been said, not necessary on gearboxes with syncromesh, which means pretty much every road car you'll see now-a-days. Only car I remember driving in recent memory where double clutching was a benefit was a Formula Palmer Audi (about 5 years ago at at Bedford Autodrome).

If you search this particualr board, you will find at least one if not more threads on this subject already. Thanks.
