Question for all B-Ball players!!

I just play basketball for fun, usually with older people than myself. It's amazing how good you are when you play with people your own age. Back on the subject though, the best part of my game is defense, particularly blocking. I mean seriously, I don't just block people... I block the **** out of their shots. I got some pretty long arms/fingertips which makes it easier for me to swat the ball back a few feet if someone tries to shoot over me. Trash talk has been mentioned before. There's nothing more intimidating/frustrating than getting your shot blocked on offense (I think).

For me it's the complete opposite of you guys.

When I'm all alone on the 3pt line I miss it half the time.

If I catch the ball, face the basket, and there's a defender, I will shoot and score. 7 or 8 out of 10.

I have a big ego, it drives me.

I play in a very violent league, so we go to be confident, we trash talk a lot. Loads of emotions.
Yeah, sometimes when I catch the ball at the 3pt line and I'm wide open, I'll think about the shot a little too much, rather than just shooting it. Honestly, I think ego and confidence are 2 key parts to being a good basketball player. You have to think and actually believe when you step on the court that you're better than anyone else out there. The trash talk is an interesting topic, and I'm glad it came up. What are your guys' takes on it? Personally, I've never trash talked anyone on the court in a game, I believe in the "actions are louder than words" mentality. For me, if I can score on my opponent, while stopping him from doing the same at the other end, there's no need to trash talk.

I agree with you on the intimidation part of that. If you can get a block on your man - especially early - there's a good chance he'll sort of "fear" you for the rest of the game, and become much more passive.

If you have the ball, I'd always leave little bit of room to prevent penetration.
When I say I "crowd" the defender, it is usually because I want him to go to the hoop on me. I'm confident enough in myself that I think I can block or at least contest any shot/layup attempt if he does end up getting completely by me. Most of my fouls will come from my man beating me, and me going for the block from behind. :indiff: It's all about adjustments, really.

I think he's trying to say his game's similar to Eduardo Najera. Nothing wrong with that! :)

Uh, i dunno about that. What i meant was i do everything that nobody else wants to do. Bang around in the paint for the board, pass, only take a shot when it's a clean one, dive for the ball, stuff like that.

In my league, you have to trash talk.

I once score 37 points on 7 of 9 from the 3 pts arc, I trash talked my defender the whole game long.

Even the coach was screaming : INTIMIDATION.

I was responding by : more pistons coach more pistons!

I understood you perfectly. :) Eduardo Najera is a poster boy for that type of basketball. I almost mentioned Dale Davis, also.
