How the hell was that BMW a finalist for the SEMA Gran Turismo Awards (according to the GTP news page)? It looks horrendous.
Technically speaking, it sounds great on paper. It's just that when you go and actually look at it, it leaves you feeling confused. I like the Car, not a fan of the whole rusty-beat-up theme it has, though.Maybe because of people like me that like it

The car was essentially written off in a traffic accident in 2010, and then burnt down to the ground the following year. It was either a choice of scrap the car which had incredible sentimental value to him, or work with what he had - so he rescued it.

I think it's a fantastic tale of refusal to give in.
This iteration could probably be considered its better days. The car looks much better then it used too, and atleast seems functional from a driving/racing perspective. I like and appreciate the story, but never much cared for it. Although, I like this version the best.Should've just scraped it and kept a photo of it in its better days on his mantelpiece.
It was a slammed VIP 5 Series, until it got the roof damage, so he made it a chop-top.Should've just scraped it and kept a photo of it in its better days on his mantelpiece.
I wouldn't necessarily think so. He drove his cars hard, no matter the layout. Throwing sparks, destroying the underbody, pretty much destroying the whole car. I think when finished it'll likely be driven, and driven hard. He doesn't seem like the type to just build something and baby it.I think he has very effectively achieved the look he's going for, but by the sounds of what @hsv said, for the time, money, help and effort sunk into the car, it could probably have been restored to factory just as easily - instead of a tribute to a format in which it never raced. I think the fact is the owner likes this look more than showroom... which is his right.
Still...
That's 🤬 awesome.
Late but
trash car for a trash team
^ Saw it in person at SEMA, I like it! It's better executed compared to the minivan-based Ridgline in my opinion. All Kia needs to do is to lose that orange color.SEMA
