Just notice I never said it wasn't awesome. But it's not tasteful at all.
You really can't say this too much, because "general concensus" taste can be conflicted with what I've come to call "aquired tastes". I'll exemplify.
I think we can all agree that this thing is textbook perfect:
Nice color combo, traditional wheels a tad big to house big discs, we'd all like one of these just like this one, you'll never go wrong doing one of these up just like this one. It works.
Now, if we show up to the cruise night in this...
Oh you're gonna hear about it. There will be people that will spit in your eye. But there will be peope that get it. It's deffinitely not a car for everyone, but people that like street freaks and that like the time period when these things flourished, and their culture context, will go ape over it. It's a car for the different enthusiast, for the guy that can appreciate it. The other one is always in taste, this one isn't, but for the people who like this stuff (me included) it's absolutely freaking awesome and quite possibly the coolest 55 Chevy on earth right now.
I'll put down another example:
absolutely perfect Kenmeri GTR. Wide Watanabes, fender flares, chin spoiler, awesome fender mirrors, not overdone stance. Heck it's even white. This will be liked by everyone, it's a formula that can't go wrong, it has been proven again and again (just like the red/white 55 Chevy), because it works and it looks awesome.
Then there's this...
hyper-bosozoku ftw. This car isn't for everyone at all. Yet for the right people it's absolutely awesome. Extreme stance, exposed oil cooler, and if my knowledge of japanese wheels doesn't betray me, those are rare SSR wheels with extreme tire stretching. And let's not forget the paint, the extended sharknose and those flares. And it could be even more extreme, with a bigger front chin spoiler. Not for everyone, but for those that get the bosozoku car culture, this thing is way more awesome than the car above.
Call these "acquired tastes"? I haven't found a better term.
So you see, even if it isn't "in taste", it doesn't necesarily mean it's not awesome. It's just that it isn't for everyone.

@Cano While you still have a valid strong point, it is awesome, depending of the people. Few can think of it as awesome, while the majority won't be interested, that is, won't think it's awesome. And that's how that majority matters for the most part.
Like that Gasser. I never knew about them, but there are some that look good. Many will say it's ****. But I'll be honest with you. The more I think about it, and look at it carefully, the more I start to like it. Depending of how it looks.
I'll jsut say this once and that's it. It is tasteful, for those that really like it, but not everyone else. You could say it's tasteful for the people taht really like it, for those that don't, question about it. AAnd that is what happens, with me..and others. Now I've chnaged lately, I hasn't posted wrong cars in some threads. For the most part. This, is just the beginning.

...I know. But I was just making my own point about it. I know I've been told many times about my language but come on, why keep noticing all the time? I'm not american obviously and ofcourse my language is not perfect. Though it beats for most people to be honest. I'm still ashamed there's several brazilians like me that speak english terribly. Well, I think I saw one yesterday in this website with the avatar of Razor that does a decent job at speaking English very well, I guess.
Either way, I have a new find. Nothing too terrible.
Ah, and one more thing. @MoLiEG I'm actually surprised you like that SLR. I guess I'm not the only one that sometime have bad tastes.
