So it can have less power than it already does?

Right....let me remind you the GT500 has more horsepower than any car GM has ever made period, and that includes the new 2014 ZO6

@RocZX you're right. It is a Buick.

So it doesn't belong in this thread then.
Not sure what's wrong with this, I guess you guys don't know too much about hod rodding culture and so on. They aren't like resto guys that do matching everything, there is nothing questionable about this, and the guy who built this probably forgot more about cars than you've ever known. @mustang fanatic

It's a Chevy engine in a Ford (well in this case, a Buick). Chevy engines DO NOT belong in Fords, and vice-versa.

I think the biggest problem I have with old engine swaps is this one time I saw a '32 Ford with an SRT8 HEMI engine. I died a little that day.

Says who? Some younger adult that doesn't know a thing about hot rod culture? I guess you must hate drag racers who put ford 9 inch rears in chevy and dodges because of their bullet proof reliability. If you want matching parts and numbers go cuddle up with a resto mod builder.

A reared is no big deal. An engine, however, is like the most important part of the vehicle. If you put a Chevy engine in it you may as well just slap a Chevy emblem on it.

I just don't understand it. If you really want Chevy power, why not buy a Chevy to put the engine in it, not a Ford.

Because the engine doesn't make the brand for one. Chevy engines are usually cheaper than the other two. A V8 is still a V8 and having a fetish for one camp or another is a bit childish. Just because there would be a chevy engine in a Ford doesn't make it less of a Ford especially considering the context of the build being a Hot Rod.

This is the problem. People are too cheap to buy the best. :P

Who says it's the best? And though I know you're joking it's not that funny. The point is chevy makes a product that is a V8 does the job as good if not better than the original manufacture, and for less cost. You have to be a pretty big idiot to just blow 1.5 to 2 times that amount, just for a "manufacture emblem"

In an ideal world, if I was building a hotrod I'd want to try and stick to the original manufacturer just so everything matched and looked more 'factory' built.
However if it's substantially cheaper or easier to fit a rivals engine, then I don't really see the issue.
I wonder how many hotrods and custom cars are running gearboxes, diffs, suspension and steering racks that are from another manufacturers cars

Just to add my 2 pence into the pot I guess.

Engine swapping is fine between brands, and ages. I mean I would happily put the engine from a Jag F-type into an old Jensen Interceptor for example.

It's kinda the idea that one engine in the car will give benefits over another engine in the car, regardless of make or age.

Better yet how many of them are running original or modified version of the original parts from the era they were built in? None, because the hot rod culture is to have a fast, cool looking, and unique street machine that doesn't do strictly to that of how you'd see a restoration or museum piece built.
