Hello

I moved house, and just purchased new internet. My current router is not compatible with the new ISP.

My GF will purchase a router tonight on her way home. I normally research these thing exstensively but have not got the time. My main concern is stability while plaing GT5. I have allot of options on my old router and was able to set the PS3 to a static IP, put in the DMZ etc, which fixed my online GT5 probs.

http://www.fastweb.it/modem/

here is a list of compatible routers

►DIGICOM RAW150-A02
►DIGICOM RAW300-A01
►LINKSYS X2000
►NETGEAR DGN2200
►D-LINK DSL-2640B
►D-LINK DSL-2740B
►BELKIN SURF N300 Modem Router-F9J1002

Question is, which router will be most suitable for GT5, one with substantial configuration options/static IP, put PS3 in DMZ etc.

If possible could you recommend top 3 choices if she is unable to get a particular 1.

many Thanks

D-LINK DSL-2640B ancient router alert that was my first router I used.

By compatible I take it this is what your ISP is saying will work.

Truth is you can use any router my ISP which is Telstra Bigpond also has this list but I use a Cisco WAG320N and it works fine, before that I used Belkin N1 Vision.

The compatible means the routers they can help you with set up issues but most routers these days are easy to set up.

Just connect them to the PC.
Open your web browser.
Type in 192.168.1.1(may be different for the modem you get)
Type in username(admin) and password(admin, password or blank)
Quick set up.
Select country.
Select ISP
Enter username and password.
Set up Wireless name(SSID)
Set Wireless Passcode.
Finish.

I figured that thanks, The old router I have was left in the old house, and I have an old spare router which I brought from the UK, (I live in Italy now) and It does not work after trying to set it up. Its an old generic (ISP provided) thompson TG585 V7.

Can you just recomend me a few routers that will work, not too expsensive, more performance per buck rather than High end. I just want something that will work which is very configurable as it must work well with GT5 online otherwise I will cry! lol

Many Thanks

Any D-link one or Netgear one.

A basic N150 type should do it.

Even if you have a N laptop you won't go faster than 24mbps which is DSL2+ max speed

^^What Dennisch said - I have a D-LINK right now, DIR-815 and have been very happy with it. My old Belkin died, likely from heat, it was always hot. Never used DIGICOM.

Linksys/Cisco have never failed me.

Well, I'm up to my third model Linksys router, stubborn me, but all of them seem to have issues that can't be resolved with firmware updates.
The first one fried itself, after 1,5 years or so. Can't remember the model.
The second had serious DNS issues, resulting in no wired internet, only WIFI.
That was the WRT160N. Got replaced 2 times.
And my third, WRT320N. Got replaced 1 time.
Paid €80,- for it, and every other day I need to give it a powercycle because my downloadspeed is only a third of what it needs to be. 40MB max instead of 120.
But I gave up on buying new routers. I just pull the cord whenever I am close to the router.
But on the other hand, the WIFI N signal is very strong. I have almost maximum strength all throughout the house and yard.
