Today I was watching some GT5 videos and one was a R92CP top speed test and I couldn't help but notice the car sound was looping! Obviously all the car sounds loop but with this car it was annoying and I cannot take my mind off of it when I hear it! It sounds sort of like a gallop because it "ticks" like 3 or 4 times.

Does anyone else here this ?

Yeah I hear that too with several cars I drive. As much as the sound would be a nuisance I get over it most of the time and not even notice it unless I tend to get bored and focus on the sound.

200th post :dopey:

How do I do this on a Ps3? I do not have a computer but the video is by prelude326 on Youtube.

@BlameAunt
Yes it is definantley distracting especially on a car I enjoy alot :[

Do you people really hate this game so much that you actually TRY to find faults.
I have 1000 cars and haven't found anything worth complaining about yet.

I mean, obviously the engine sounds are totally wrong, but so what?

Drive them, don't analyse them. And if you have limited patience and can't drive a car due to the sound, the shove on some Skrillex and move on 👍

Well I didn't intentionally try to find it. I just noticed it while spacing out and focusing on the noise after I noticed it looped.

Well said, I totally agree! 👍

EDIT: But who are Skrillex??

@BlameAunt
Yes it is that one thanks for posting it 👍

@Xamado
No no I love the game and do not care about the sounds be it good or bad. Only reason I pointed it out is because it is soo noticable and this did not happen in GT4.

Damn, this is good to know. I always wondered what that noise was. There are some cars I just can't drive because of the is noise problem.

Glad I am not the only one noticing this although I don't hear it on alot of cars. The only other ones I know of are R89C and Toyota 7. :s

I think it's pretty bad when (most of) the cars have looping sound at high rpm. Considering PD's high aim for realism, this aspect of the realism is falling well short of the mark.

Sometimes I muted the sound when driving in GT5 late at night-yes it can be done, I did some of the TT this way and I can still get great consistent lap times, just need to have my eyes also looking at the rev and speed occasionally. Usually I also play some nice jazz or trance songs through my AVR, and as bad as they may be ( the exhaust sound ), I never bothered enough to get agitated - well what can I do ?, and I never noticed that R92CP has such kind of loop sound as I never really hit top speed for too long ...

That "ticking" that you are hearing has nothing to do with the engine sound. That ticking that you are hearing is the timer. It ticks at every timed segment of the track and displays that time briefly under the running time. Watch the video again and you will see what I mean. That tick happens at 49.930, 1.19.052, and 1.36.412. That ticking is just an alert for the driver as he starts/finishes a timed secter on the track. These alerts come in handy when you are hotlapping a track so that you can see what your time was through a certain sector.

I can't say for a fact on Eks's part, but I don't think he was talking about the track segment timers I think he was talking about the engine sound. There's a faint ticking sound when the recorded sound for the engine is finished and loops again.

@CargoRat
I know what you are talking about but that is not it. It is the engine sound. Can you not hear it "galloping" as he drives down the straight? When I said it ticks 3 or 4 times I meant that when does gallop it ticks (loops) 3/4 times.

SSR5 has gals in the pavement (expansion joints?) on the mains straight. Not sure about SSR7, it's been awhile since I was on that track,

Well, you guys got better ears than I do then, lol. I myself don't pay that much attention to the engine sounds nor am I bothered that much by how they sound. I'm not one to anyalize the game and its possible flaws. Unless its something big that interferes with how I play the game, I'm not bothered by it.

This is pretty much the case for any car really. If you take a listen to just about any car you will hear some sort of "background" loop. The Le Mans Prototypes are more noticeable as they have louder engines.

Despite the loop, I actually like the R92/89's sound :boggled:

The Mazda 787B is another example of an annoying audible loop at high rpms.

They're more noticeable because they're more highly tuned, or rather they're not tuned for road running, so they run well (smoothly) at their intended operating conditions - namely in the "power band" and with more-or-less full throttle.

PD recorded some cars at partial throttle only, that means these particular engines won't have been running smoothly, which introduces all sorts of fluctuations in the final sound. The more unstable / non-periodic a sound is, the harder it is to extract a loop of a given size from it - using longer loops is generally easier for dirty recordings, but that requires more memory. For those reasons, we've had noticeably looping samples since GT2.

I think it's genuinely interesting that some people don't notice it, though - it really is obvious in this case.

I think this is the sort of thing that for most people doesn't bother you until you really notice it. Then it drives you insane. I hear the looping in a lot of cars, but then I forget about it. It only really bothers me in cars I drive a lot. I still love driving my 787B, and for the most part I still love the not-quite-right-but-still-reasonably-close-and-cool sound it makes, but when you hit the real big straights it does get incredibly annoying after the thousandth time I've heard it loop. I haven't driven the R92CP very much so it doesn't bother me as much. But I can still hear it.

Nah, you've just got the music cranked and the game sounds to low :P. Kinda like a muffler going bad, crank up the stereo and the problem is fixed 👍

Engine sound loops are easy to ear on SSR10 with the sustained speed. Just make sure you're not bouncing off the top of the gear.

Actually, its quite the opposite. When I'm competing in TT's, I have the game cranked going through my 7.1 surround system. I do that so I can purposely hear when the tires start to break loose and also to get an ear to exactly when to shift as I rarely use the tach only to get an initial shift point. I do have motivational music going, but its on low. I gotta hear the car talk to me so I know how to respond. May sound weird to some, but it works for me. Even with the game cranked, I'm still not bothered by engine sounds. I admit, most are far from realistic, but it just doesn't bother me. To each their own on this subject.
