General Information:
Hello and welcome to the Ferrari Edition of the 'The Race Of Champions'. As you may know, Jack (GTP_JackStanley) is organizing a GT5P online event named "Race of Champions" here:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=115041

an event I already applied for. While thinking about it I thought it would be also fun to have this kind of event with FC, since it's based on 1 vs. 1 races our "lobby stability" problems with a greater field of cars won't be an issue.

So, I asked Jack for permission to use his idea in a FC event and he kindly agreed to it. Thank you Jack! :)

The Format:

After all interested FC racers have applied, they will randomly be paired by the organizer (me) in head - to - head races. So, as an example, if we have 20 participants, we will have 10 pairings (I will post them in this thread) for "Round One".

It's up for the players "paired" to arrange the race time to meet. They must do it and they have to send me a PSN PM (not GTPlanet PM, my inbox here has very litle capacity) telling me the result. Of course you can write about your race in this thread also, but the PSN PM is MANDATORY for the result to be valid.

The process will repeat itself each week for rounds 2 and subsequent until we are down to a "final pairing" and final race that will determine the "FC RACE OF CHAMPIONS ... CHAMPION"! :D

"Lucky Losers" Rule:

Now that I have a FINAL Entry list with 19 racers, I can define the "lucky losers" rule until the end of the event (I had posted here an example of an entry list of 20, didn't miss by much).

And that rule is this:

1 - Lucky losers , will be picked according to the game's leaderboards in "Lap Records" (regardless of times existing in the "Time Trial" leaderboards), meaning, according to their best lap in a race situation, achieved until the end of the Round's deadline (23:59 each sunday)

2 - Because in this event we will have 2 "lucky losers" in both Rounds One and Two (and none in Rounds Three, Four and Five), this means that by the end of the two first rounds, and after I got all the race results, I will check the "Lap Records" Leaderbord and I will pick as "lucky losers" the two players with the best laptimes showing up there.

3 - After that is made, and with the full list of players that will play the next round, I will again randomly set the pairings and publish them (sometime after midnight sunday)

So, this is how the event will be done, from start to finish:

Round One: 19 racers means that we will have 9 pairings and 1 racer that gets a "bye" week and direct access to Round Two. In this round we will have two "lucky losers".

Round Two: 12 racers will race it (9 Round One Winners + Player that got a "bye" week + 2 "lucky losers) and that gives us 6 pairings, with the inherent result being 6 winners and 6 losers. In this round we will also have two "lucky losers"

Round Three: We will have 8 racers in this one (6 Round Two winers + 2 "lucky losers"), so we will get 4 pairings. No more "lucky losers", 4 players will go through, 4 players get eliminated.

Round Four (semi-finals): With 4 players, we will get two winners and two eliminated drivers.

Round Five (the "GRAND FINALE"): All 4 players will again race this week. The winners from Round Four will decide between them who gets the titlle of 1st ROC-FC CHAMPION, the losers from Round Four will race for the "bronze medal" (third and fourth places).

The Cars and the Race Rules:
Each round a car/track/length/weather combo will be selected and announced, together with the pairings. You must comply with these settings (an example of how I will post each round specifics: FXX/Virginia Raceway/10 minutes/wet :D )

No assists is default, unless BOTH RACERS agree to have them (I don't consider the Rev Bar or automatic transmission an assist, so those will be left free for each player to choose)

The lobby will be opened by the first driver named in the pairings, and it will be a private lobby (all slots reserved) so you can race alone. But, if BOTH AGREE, you can invite friends to watch your race, but they will have to be very careful to not interfere with your race (they can't just park like in GT5P, because after 10 seconds stopped they get disqualified and sent back to lobby), so take good care of this, as it can be troublesome.

Deadline to apply for this event, meaning for Round 1:

Next Sunday, one week from now, March 22nd, until 23:59 GMT

Competitor Names (text pasted from Jack's post, I've got nothing to add really):

Please sign up. This is a fun event so no matter your skill level see how far you can get. Driving raw cars is harder and will improve your ability. Ill get the list moving with my name and feel free to copy and paste the list and add you name. The more the better.

I'd appreciate that if you have any questions/suggestions you post them here.

estou dentro Mário!!! si tiver um limite de dias para correrem apartir do dia do "pairing" talvez 3 dias seria bom, pois assim um dos pilotos não poderia ficar atrasando as corridas sempre!

I would do it but I haven't finished the game....still. I'm also a bit tied up in GT5P comps. Great idea and good luck everyone.👍

Good morning gentlemen :)

pino, competitions aren't sunday. You and the person you get paired with have ONE FULL WEEK to do ONE RACE. You can do it monday, tuesday, wednesday, thurday, friday, saturday or sunday. The "sunday" reference is just about the deadline to PM me the race result.

20 min races would be even MORE fun :sly:

I will definitely pick 20 minutes races, at least for the last rounds. 👍

I think it's mandatory to write in english in this forum, so I'll translate what you wrote for everybody to know and I'll also reply in english :)

"I'm in Mário!!! If there will be a limit for the race to happen after the day when the "pairing" is fixed, maybe 3 days would be apropriate, to avoid constant delaying of the race by one of the players "

Zedux, I understand what you say, but since the FC community is small and mostly made of nice/friendly people, I don't think that can be a problem. Anyway, there are those, like you, that don't need any practise to be fast, and there are those who would like to have time to practise the combo. So, I guess a full week to do the race is reasonable. Anyway, and even if the race is done earlier, the event won't change its "one round pe week" nature.

I would do it but I haven't finished the game....still. I'm also a bit tied up in GT5P comps. Great idea and good luck everyone.👍

mad94d, give this one a shot. it's one race per week, it won't take much of your time.

I'd like to give it a shot but I don't have all the cars. I'll try and unlock most of them this week.

Great! Don't forget to apply 👍

Meanwhile, I noticed Kai has applied in the eutechnyx forum (as holy sword did, but holy applied here also, so he is already on the list), so, the "master list now is as follows:

1. GTP_Hun
2. GTP_ENERGIYA
3. jjaisli
4. mhm66
5. GTExD_pino-R
6. holy_sword
7. Zedux
8. GTP_fairplay_plz

Could someone please add GTP_mad94d to the list. I'm posting on my PSP so I can't copy and paste. Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problem :)

welcome aboard! 👍

Thanks, well i've got a week to get all the cars. This gives me that reason to finish FC.

I guess many people (usual posters in this forum) are still thinking about if they should or shouldn't apply. If commiting to a online event that can go on for several weeks is a problem, don't worry, after all you guys have 50% chances to get eliminated in round one, first week :D

Anyway, I'd like to make it known the following: In this event we won't have 5 minutes races. They will be either 10 or 20 minutes, so consistency will be at least as important as raw speed.

Also this: to avoid the sometimes huge advantage given by rolling starts, there will by a "start procedure". It won't be the same in all the rounds, but it will mean thet both drivers have to, immediately after they gain control over their cars, do one of the following:

a) reverse back to the grid slots (driver in first will go to pole position, driver in second to 2nd place in the grid), doing it fast in order to avoid disqualification;

b) do a full "warm up" lap, stop at the grid slots and only then start the race.

The specifics about how this will be done will be posted (and may be different) for each round. In fact, there are a few differences from track to track (and I guess from car to car) that don't make it simple to set the same rule for all tracks.

Last night I did a few tests with the valuable help from Jason (Energiya) and I found out a few curious things. LIke these:

a) The grid slots in Silverstone are way back from the start/finish line;

b) There aren't grid slots designed on the american track of Homestead;

c) It's very tricky, at least for car #1, to do this "reverse" thing in Infineon. Some practise is needed.

d) In some tracks we would be both back and stopped at the grid in almost 20 seconds; in others, well over 30.

e) Energiya drives a lot better than me in reverse also :dopey:

I won't change the opening post now, I'll do it only when I have a more definitive rule about how we will avoid rolling starts.

Something else: We have 9 players registered for this event. If this was the final number (I sincerely hope not) I'd like to share with you how I think this would be done, because whatever the final number of participants is the "odd number" situation will surely arise and I also want your feedback on the way to solve it.

So, let's take this "9 players" example and imagine how the event would be run with it:

1st round/1st week - 4 pairings, one lucky driver gets a "bye"

2nd round/2nd week - 2 pairings between the 4 winners of round one, all 4 losers from round one get a time trial to make within 48 hours. the best time is paired against the driver that didn't race in round one. So, we'll have 3 pairings in this round.

3rd round/3rd week - We have one pairing with 2 of the winners of round 2. And again all losers from round 2 will get a new chance with a time trial they must do within 48 hours. Best time gets the second pairing, with the 3rd winner of round 2.

4th round/4th week - FINAL RACES - winners of 3rd round race for the tiltle of FC ROC CHAMPION. Losers of Round 3 race for the "bronze medal".

Comments?

If there is an odd number of people, I'll join. It will almost be like someone gets a "bye" but not quite :)

Don't know if I should apply for this. I have been unable to fix my off-center wheel problem (& Logitech don't seem to have much to offer by way of a solution). One lap isn't too much of a problem, but each successive lap the centering gets worse. After 10 minutes my wheel is basically upside-down, which, believe me, is not conducive to "consistency". :grumpy:

Comments, well Mario, the test session was interesting, plus i have had a few pratice sessions driving in reverse, due to a friend i wont name ( Quiet it was f1fansd ) opps, we tried an FC demolition derby series. It was a lot of fun.

"but not quite" is the key here :) And you never know what will happen. The worst scenario is having a good race with someone and losing, I don't think that's a problem. Besides, that's what will happen to half of the participants.

Anyway, and since I will post the first round combo no later than sunday, and the participants will have a full week to do the race, there will be plenty of time for eveyone to practise the car and track chosen. It will make for some excitng races.

You are one of the guys that volunteered to do the "FC Online Event Tests", and if race position didn't matter then, it won't also matter now. So, consider applying regardless of the odd or even number of racers :)

Biggles, that is indeed a problem. Buy or borrow another G25, steal one if you have to, but if you don't enter this it will be a shame. Biggles, the "FC" greatest GTPer; the guy that posted in the GT5P forum saying why FC is better than that "oh so loved" game ;) ; the guy that spent months harassing half of the world's population about FC ... will miss this event? Can't happen!

:D

I bet it was, now I see why you are a "reverse gear" expert, I felt totally dumb trying to get to the grid slot in reverse, messing it all up, while you got there always a lot faster than me

I've got 12 cars now, finished Italian Challenge, now doing European challenge. Fun game, can be frustrating at times. Mainly frustrating when you push too hard and go off, easy to do on this game. Anyway, looking forward to this comp. Hopefully I get all the cars by the time it starts.

Keep it up mate, your'll get there. 👍👍👍

@mad94d: If you don't get all cars unlocked by sunday, just tell me (or post here, this isn't a secret) the list of the cars you have by then, I'll surely be able to setup a nice "1st round combo" with one of them 👍

LOL. Yes, it's my favourite hobby! :)

I still wait that until the deadline expires next Sunday many new racers decide to apply for this event (danjama, Biggles, Hereward, GTNeidher, Mingoturbo, Graffen, marchbrown, Stealthwinner, LITLE JOBBIE, RSRacer, PiotrB, JamboGT, Sarrinen, Lofasz, uk86ze, waynejones ... and many others ... where are you guys? :D )

However, and regardless of the final list of participants, I think it's time to start gearing up for Round One.

So, today I will open a new thread about that Round (as I will with all rounds until the end).

I won't post all specifics now (to be honest, I don't even know them myself) but it will be edited once decisions have been made.

What everyone needs to know is this:

- Car
- Track
- Race start rules
- Weather condition
- Length of race
- Pairings

I guess the "car" item is probably the most important and, since each round begins on a Monday and the results must be communicated to me until the following Sunday, I'll try to define the car always a few days before the beggining of each round.

Mario, I could sign up for next week, but after that I will be away for a couple of weeks, so it's unlikely I will be able to race the following two weeks.

Biggles, assuming you aren't eliminated in Round 1 (LOL, I'm joking :D ) and later you are unable to race any round , the lucky guy that gets paired with you will get a "bye" week, so I don't see any problem with it. Your G25 malfunctioning is a lot more problematic than this :)

I'm interested in joining you guys, though I haven't had time to read through how things will be setup. How soon will things get under way?

Hi again! ;)

The event will start as soon as Monday 00:00 GMT (I guess it'll be 20:00 Sunday your time). You will be paired against someone else (randomly) and all you have to do is arrange a race time with "him" within that week. The result for that race must be sent to me until Sunday. If you lose the race, you are eliminated, if you win, you proceede to next round.

Round One has already its own thread, but for now it's already defined that the car to use is the 348 Challenge (pending mad94d confirmation that he has it, but I think it's one of the first cars to get unlocked and that's why I chose it). And the track is Mugello.

So, it's a very simple event really. in a few weeks (with one round per week) we should know who is our "Champion", and we will all congratulate him, because that's all he'll get from winning this event :D

Considering Lofasz interest and Ardius post in the Round One thread, I'll update the players list. That now stands like this:

1. GTP_Hun
2. GTP_ENERGIYA
3. jjaisli
4. mhm66
5. GTExD_pino-R
6. holy_sword
7. Zedux
8. GTP_fairplay_plz
9. GTP_mad94d
10. GTP_GoesTo11
11.GTP_Lofasz
12. Ardius_

Anyone that decides to apply please copy this list, add his own PSN ID and post it in this thread. Deadline to do it is fast approaching, after that moment the list gets locked and the pairings for round one will be sorted. 👍
