Race Pod - Fully Enclosed

Well im moving from an appartment to a house before christmas so I will have plenty of room. I might build it in the attic lol.

Nice stuff there 👍 Must get really odd in there because your so immersed that you brain may actually start to believe your in a car! All you need now is some kind of hydraulics like an airplane simulator!

I would love to someday build a cockpit with a proper dash and working switches and stuff... try and get it as real as possible but these things take ages to make!

Looks good but doesn´t it get insanely hot? I can see how it can be practical and a good way to hide cables. I hope you have locks on the door so no little sisters or brothers can terrorize you too :D

Doesn't it get hot in real race cars too? I mean, it's all in the reality of racing. And if you want to loose a few pounds in the process lol.

By the way joe. What did you use for sound proofing? I want to build a room in my attic for my computer and PS3 and want to soundproof the room.

Hi there
sorry i have not posted those schematics yet - they looked real buget once i looked at the photo's. will re draw later on.
Anyway the sound proofing is a Airconditioning product they use to wrap around pipes and ducts. It's dense foam covered with a tough vinly type black film.
I used it cause it was flexible, may not need that if you are covering a wall.
Good luck with the whole room thing,

Thanks for the answer joe. The room I will be building will only be a small room because its a small one bedroom houise I will be moving into. I just need a place to put my PC and game consoles so the attic seems to be a logical place to build it.

That's nuts! ;) Hmm, my solution to the sound issue is a bit simpler:

I wear glasses and prolonged wear of headphones hurt me. The main reason I want sound proofing is because I will have a few cameras around the house (The area I am moving into is kind of rough) and I will have the computer or recording the camera footage in the attic. i wont want people to know I have a room in the attic in case the house gets broken into.

GT5 is getting closer guys.

Think how long you could play in one of these without pissing off the other people in the house.
It's winter here so getting to hot is not an issue.

Have also recently included a 4 speaker car stereo system with an Ipod connection for those boring moments waiting for online races to start.

And does the iPod you own have a playlist of songs to play while you're racing?;)
/me has for his Sony MP3 player :D

Very nice cockpit you have there. Your own private cinema! :P

It looks very cosy in there. This is not for claustrophobic people. :D

I wouldn't mind having a cockpit like yours! 👍

Joe, hands down, the best cockpit I've ever seen. You are one lucky man!! Best ever.
Nope, this is the best cockpit ever.

Watch the entire video.

I never get tired of watching that video. Great idea, albeit a poor seat choice. I can't imagine putting all the time/money/ and effort into building something like that and then pull and old seat out of a Honda CRX.

;)

Hey mate after hearing about your pod on the weekend I've now managed to get a look at it. Looks fantastic - that's the GT spirit right there. I'm glad you've got some fans because with the sound proofing wouldn't you start to run out of oxygen (lol)? Good you have a clock in there so you know what day it is!

Nope! Not working for me... This is what I get when oppening the links:

;)

Well some people like old /nostalgic stuff.

Plus the crx seat is very comfy and was made by Recarro (a reputable race seat manufacturer) also these seats have ample padding unlike lightweight race seats with their 1/2 inch of padding. Just look at the shape, almost every race seat is based on this very shape, I'm guessing the Honda badge is just too low class for you snobs who cant appreciate something for what its worth (I dont mean $ but rather its functionality).

To be honest I dont like either of these rigs, for me simple is better, and why are you saying this is a space saver, it takes up more space then many rigs. If you put a roof on it and put it outside (which i was expecting) then it would be a space saver.

Well having a table in front of the TV takes a lot of room because of the wires stretching from the TV to the table. This set up keeps everything sealed so kids don't trip over wires running between the TV and where the wheel is mounted. Another advantage of this set up is that it's all ready to go. I hardly even use my expensive G25 because its such a hassle to set up and unless I pack it up as soon as I'm finished I'm constantly worried about tripping over the wires.

Hmmm...well i know it looks big but it truely only takes up the same footprint as any other rig, minus all the wires attaching you to the wall.
Not everyones cup of tea but I would not be without it..to much fun!

Edit:
Ok it's official...the box is going up on the hoist for some much needed upgrades...it has done me proud sinces it's birth back in 2008 and was driven
basically every night for 2yrs solid.

To do list:
New sound system - complete rewire.
Remounting of the pedal rack
Repair of brake sensor
Gear mod for more resistance(plan on going clutch)
Ventilation/filter box for PS3
Additional USB ports
Internal start/kill button for mains supply.
(just in case i crash & burn)
cup/can holder.

Hope to have my baby back on the road soon...awww **** i miss it already

How's the Cockpit Mod's going/ gone Joe?
Firming up the Shifter unit is really worth it, totaqlly changes the whole Gear shifting experience.:D
Also I recommend putting a small strick of Electrical tape or something smooth and adhesive backed over the indervidual gear holes, as once you firm up the shifter the 'clicking' sound between gears is signifantly lounder.
Take it easy mate, I can't wait to finish moving and get back into 'My Favourite Game'!:dopey:👍
