racing wheel

I'm looking into purchasing a racing wheel for the Xbox.

Any thoughts on price / performance?

One racing wheel better than the rest?

I've raced against guys online, and found out they used wheels, which, along with the fact that I'm not a good driver with a controller, had them seriously kicking my old butt.

If this is threaded somewhere else, forgive me.

The only wheels I can recommend for Forza are Fanatec wheels. They're not exactly cheap but you get what you pay for. I've had a Fanatec GT2 for a few months and I love it...the learning curve is rather steep though....just remember, it will take you a couple of months to equal your pad times and a wheel will not make you faster. It is definitely more fun playing with a wheel though.

The learning curve doesn't really bother me. I have time.

I raced with you my friend and you....are a lot quicker. I know for sure at levels higher than S700 it is mandatory to use a wheel.

thanks

I only mentioned the learning curve because I didn't want you to spend hundreds on a wheel only to realize that your lap times are much slower for at least a few weeks. I'm much faster in the lower and middle classes than the higher ones....I really don't race R2 and above and I usually don't do too well when I do. ;) We need to race more often....feel free to invite me when I'm on and I'll do the same.

I echo what wiggs said. Also, I would like to add that getting a wheel will add so much to your experience with racing games, it really makes this genre much more enjoyable. If you decide to go with a wheel, make sure it has Force Feedback and having a stable rig is important. Fanatec is the best choice when it comes to Xbox, actually it is IMO the only choice if you want a good wheel. Good luck and hope you find something that will bring you incredible amounts of fun!

I came over to Forza 4 after a year with GT%. I found there also that at the higher levels a wheel was so much better than a controller. I'm looking at spending under $300.
I have to do a lot of house repairs this summer, and my wife's to do list is long...
I will try to get on more often...before I get started in the house repairs.

Thanks

Yea about the learning curve. It will probably take you a few months to get up to your controller times if you ever do. I think the wheel is usually a little slower due to the extra difficulty with force feedback etc.

Theres a lot of hype about racing wheels and stands. I made my own stand today...and for the first time, I did not get a DNF. I may be on to something

Well. for a $200 wheel, I would change tape from electrical to Gorilla Duct tape. That tape will hold anything...haha

Ha Ha, can't go wrong with duct tape.

My wife has been on me for the last year about my driving. She's says since I've been playing those racing games, I've become a lot faster(not true!!) I told her "You think I drive crazy now, wait until I change the steering wheel in the car to an XBox controller"

If you can swing it, CSR-Elite - tis amazing and wholly immersive in Forza 4.

Only complaint is the rim is kinda cheesy, but drive with gloves and you'll never notice (and you won't leave your nasty skin all over the alcantera - gross). It IS worth the money, have also heard good things on the CSR as well (and its bundled w/pedals so that will save you a ton).

But - if you can spend it, you'll love the CSR-E and pedal combo.
