Can Gran Turismo do a better job with Rally? I mean, I have no question about the simulation of the Rally cars themselves, I think they will be realistic in the end, but what about the stages? Feel satisfied up to this point in the series? Or do you think Polyphony can put more effort into it? What are your thoughts?

They have the WRC license so there will be point to point and probably real time trial setup as well. I hope they still include the 1on1 style though.

I just hope the rally stages mirror real rally environments rather than be basically dirt circuits that are wide enough for a NASA launch pad crawler to drive along. Realistic, narrow courses will be tough, but that's the name of the game.

Oh and I also have my fingers crossed for a full, real pikes peak..

Would be great if the cars are on the same track at any one time, like WRC Evolution.I bet the damage is excellent, like hitting a jump then landing & damaging the diff, radiator, bonnet, bumper, wheel arches, wheels getting torn off & bending the chassis up.

i've been disapointed with the 'simulation' of dirt in the past in GT games, it was just like tarmac with lower grip, a shame.

hopefully they'll redo the whole thing and make it much better, closer to richard burns i hope.

While I agree to a degree (with that statement), if you've played GT4 with FFB wheel, you do get a completely different feel and effect (through the FFB) with either dirt or snow.

I don't see lots of people playin WRC "mode" if tracks would be like IRL. WRC tracks are sometimes more slim than citta di aria tracks in slimest parts. And ofc you are tryin to do 60-120 ml / h in those slim tracks.. So Real to real tracks are out of question. All tracks will be wide as Pikes peak real track (old one with gravel) Even in rally toscania you could see that track is wide as hell..

btw if they actually do some slim tracks i want to try them in Grop B car deamons.. like Ari ;) :

I wouldn't be suprised if PD are just advertising the amount of rally courses & locations you know. The suprise they were on about, i guess is a full list of tracks for Nascar & probably more for DTM, BTCC, JGTC & maybe more than that.To include BTCC you wouldn't have to add extra tracks, unless you hold the full licence for the sport.

I expect WRC to be a big part of GT5 including point to point stages and great driving physics. Fingers crossed!

Are we sure what the gt5 rally license entails? Perhaps it will just be all the branded cars. I would expect it to be worse than rally dedicated games apart from car graphics.

The full licence includes all associated countries, courses, cars & drivers. Now they could be included, just that there is a huge array of rally cars & drivers.Other rally drivers we know went to do there own independent games.

If it's true that they bought the whole license, then for that amount of money I think they would make the most of it.

They said it will cost £60 million to make GT5 & that is half of the cost for some games & they don't include tangible licences.

The full license includes logos and race names and that is all. They need separate license for cars, drivers, teams etc. This is why there are SuperGT/JGTC cars in GT/Forza yet neither have the official SuperGT license.

More like RBR less like Colin McRae Rally much less like GT4 rally, wishful thinking but if you're goign to include WRC license, you need stages.

Totally agree. Do you think we should have to get a seperate "rally licence" in the game or are you ok with just a few tests whithin the licensing process like before?

If i remember clearly GT4 DID have a special rally license, although IF stages are included they will need to cover more aspects of stage driving such as pacenotes and more advanced driving techniques on different surfaces.

Did GT4 have them, couldn't remember. I agree that the license tests should definately be more thurough in GT5.

Point to point rallying sounds like wishful thinking. The amount of modelling work needed would be ginormous. Unless they sacrifice quality to produce quantity, but that would be really out of character for PD.

The handling is obviously going to be much improved, but hopefully loose surfaces from GT4 lose their oily feel. I play it with the dualshock, so maybe I just need a FFB wheel like myke6699 suggests. Even with the dualshock though on tarmac I feel like I can feel the surface. Where as that doesn`t seem to be there with gravel (snow and ice I can understand, it`s slippery as anyway.)

The rally license sounds awesome, fingers crossed for that.

I thought the same thing. But I'm sure whatever PD does it will be quite pleasing this time around.

Like a lot of people are saying, I think they need to improve the road surface simulation. A typical rally stage (more narrow that citta di aria) on "dirt" that is as slippery as the stuff in GT4 just wouldn't be right. If it is going to be difficult I'd rather it be realistic.

I go to STPR every year and I have to say - it's scary going over 35 mph on these roads.. couldn't imagine it wide-open. Real rally simulation would be hard

Random STPR vid I'm linking

Fixed.

I don't think Sony would go to the trouble of getting the WRC license just for the cars alone. I think GT5 will feature a few of the best stages from the best rallies. Other than that it would just be a waste.

i saw a video of the Citroen/Red Bull team car leaving a stage platform (99% sure it was the E3 trailer). Though, i don't have anything to back it up, I think they will have stages in GT5.
