Okay. i've been working on my Rally Events on simulation mode.

i've been also questioning myself which car to use.

i tried escudo, and it was uncontrollable (obviously.. )
and i tried my Impreaza LM Car, it was okay

so, let me get some ideas from you guys

1) what car did you use? Evo? Impreaza? Others?
2) how much horsepowers?
3) any speicific settings?

thanks. -JW31

I'm no fan of the Rally Events, even though I have an all gold R-Licence... just don't like it. But anyway, I used a Impreza LM car, tuned like a rally car and with full mods.

each rally event has three races. the first two you can do with a stock rally car, the second one will be challenging but still fairly easy. for the third race, you're going to need a turbo kit

i use a stock rally car for the first two races, and i have a stg2 turbo lancer prototype which i use for the third race

i was stingy and didn't want to buy a rally car, but i already had some decent awd cars, so i just won the amateur 4wd challenge and got the lancer prototype

the 206 and focus are pretty well balanced cars. i think the escort is good but underpowered, the celica is way too slow to be any good, the corolla's power-to-gearing sucks just like it does in colin mcrae, the citroen is absolute rubbish on anything with tight turns. the impreza prototype is probably the best stock rallycar i've found so far. the normal lancer is good but you can feel its' heavy weight. i haven't really driven the lancer protoype much as a stock car, and i haven't won the normal impreza yet

i don't use any other mods, just asm and tcs to 0 (real mans driving ;))

be careful if you upgrade the power on rally cars too much, as alot of the stages have jumps, and if you go over a 4th gear jump at the top of 6th gear, you'll fly up in the air and lose all control and probably smack the wall and ruin the next turn. have a play with the downforce, but this will shave off top speed, so use small steps and see what works best for you

and i agree that the rally driving in gt3 isn't as good as a proper rally game, like colin or wrc. for starters, you don't race on a round circuit in real rally, and the handling of dirt/gravel drifting isn't as realistic. some of the tracks are a real pain in the butt too, like that tahiti maze, it's so stupid it's not even fun, and it's not like i can't corner, i love Route 11

I love rallying in GT3, I'm much better at it then tarmac driving. I used a TME LanEvo (blue, not striped) that I gradually upgraded as I progressed. I also won the BL 4wd and turbo races with it. (it was only my 4th car, would have been 3rd if I didn't buy the Supra just for kicks). At full tune I feel it's the best (real) rally car in the game.

Not to question your manliness, but don't rally stages turn TCS and ASM off automatically?

newas just in, if the rally stages are way too easy for you, get drunk! though the rally "challenge" on tahiti becomes who can not vomit as opposed to who finmishes first :P sorry

and haha evohawk i would hope so :) i can't drive with asm on, i want the car to shift weight one way and it brakes another weay, not cool

I used a Ford Focus rally car fully tuned. I did try the Escudo but the powerband is annoying. Below 6000rpm it has no power. But when you go into it's powerband it's uncontrolable. Annoying. :banghead:

I use a Focus rally car myself. As has been said before, the 3rd rally stage will need some extra power over stock. Personally, I've never really adjusted much of the stock settings for rallying. After the focus, I'd go for the Evo, 206, and Subie rally cars. Never did take a normal car rallying, as far as I know.

I used the Evo VI RS I built early in the game, with about 350-400 hp, to win the first rally. Then I used each rally prize car to win the next rally, on through the line. I think I had to add power to the Corolla, but that's about it.

hmm, you're right. by strange coincidence, that's just what we all had at the time :sly: if you like a challenge, use the escort or maybe the corolla. purchase a stage 1 turbo which you only use for the last stage

and after you've done all the rally events gold you get the pikes peak escudo, which is great in a straight line, doesn't turn as well as other cars, and has a huge turbo lag then just flicks from 6-9000rpm and bounces off the limiter :P

It's a well documented fact that the Rally AI use a catch-up algorithum. Take a moderately powered car and run a few laps, if you stay ahead, you'll notice the AI is only 2-3 seconds behind you. Take much higher powered car and they'll still be 2-3 seconds behind.

This issue came to light when I was racing Tahiti Maze. I managed to spin the AI and get them stuck on a wall. When I crossed the start/finish line into my next lap, they had just cleared the wall. In less than a 1/2 lap they were back to their 2-3 second lag distance.

What this all stems down to is the best car to choose is one that you can handle effectively. A rally car in the 300-400 hp range is very effective, provided you stay on the dirt section.

Good luck,

AO

I am partial to the 22b, but the evo rs is fine. It's more important to know how to drive rallys well than to pick and setup a perfect car.

I'm using an MR2 GT-S with stage 2 turbo and full suspesnion and drive train, with weight reduction. Its it about 430 HP I think, and is quite fun to use, and is effective as well. Only done about half the rally stuff though :P I did it the first time using a Celica GT-4 Rally car and the Impreza Proto rally car

I'm about halfway through the Rally Races in Simulation right now, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Ford Focus has some decent power upgrades available with the Turbo Kit. I believe you can fit a Level 3 Tubo Kit on the Ford Focus, whereas you can only usually put a Level 2 kit on the others (that's so far, and excluding the Escudo), and that gives you about 519 HP on the Focus. One thing I found that you have to watch out for when you are using a car with that much power, is that sometimes you have to back off a bit when you're going around the course, otherwise you might end up going a little squirrely over some of the jumps, and if you get a little sideways, it can ruin your day by losing you the lead.

I also tried using regular rally cars for the first couple of races, but now I just use whatever tuned rally car I have at its highest level, since you're going to need it anyway. One other thing I like to do, is after getting a feel for the course in the first race, I jump right into the 7-lap final race in order to get that over with. I figure that the second 5-lap race won't be so bad after that.

As to whether there is any one car that kills all the others, I don't know. I sometimes think that there are some cars that are either better suited to certain courses, or for whatever reason are programmed to perform better on certain courses. When I am playing Rally on Professional Level in Arcade, I often try to use whatever car the game is selecting for itself when I race it on any given course, just so that everything is even. Believe it or not, it seems to work. If we both have Imprezas or Evos, I can usually beat the CPU by 1-2 secs, and sometimes its closer than that. When I use some other cars, I get beat by the CPU. Does anyone else find this to be the case as well? Another car that seems well-suited to a certain track is the Lancia Delta HF Integrale and the Tahiti course (can't remember if it's the "Maze" or "Circuit" course that it does well on). For some reason, even when I use a higher-than-normal powered rally car on Professional level in the Arcade, sometimes the CPU will still beat me, but if I use the same car that CPU likes, I can usually beat it. I have heard that the AI in GT3 has a rubber band quality, so when you try to use monstrously powerful cars, it will try and boost its own cars to keep things even. Anyone else think this is the case?

I was using the Toyota Celica Rally Car on the Smokey Mountain courses (I really like the Celica), but by the time I got to the last race, I had to fart around with the final gear ratio to get way more top end speed, because the Impreza the CPU was using was just absolutely killing me on the long straightaway.

Hope that helps, and I would be really interested to hear what strategies and thoughts you guys have.

a tuned rally car for the first two races is no competition to the AI, where's the fun if you're constantly winning by a huge margin? even stock rallycars will lunch the AI in the first race, a stock rally is a good match for the second series race. as someone stated above, they even did the whole lot in a stock 206. i think with practice, you could win the 3rd race with a stg1 turbo and no other mods and call it decent driving

I won all stage 3, rallies with full stock WRC cars except for Swiss Alps II. I loved having a 5 lap race at Tahaiti with the Evo. VII Rally Car, it was just a back a forth race for the lead between me and the Evo. VI Rally Car, I won by .1 .

Blue TME LanEvo??????? Where can you get a blue one? I thought they only came in the the red striped color?

Hmmmm...

I must just be masochistic. I just won the Clio Sport Race Car, slapped some dirt tires on it, got the rest of the upgrades it would allow me to get (too tired to remember which ones), and took it out rallying. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure that car is 4WD, which would explain why I was all over the road, and spinouts were a frequent occurrence.

Now that I've won the Tahati Circuit with that car and have a real rally car, perhaps I'll use that instead. *lol*

Although I have to admit, the Clio Sport Race Car handles very nicely! I wasn't all that upset when I finished the Super Speedway 150 and got it instead of the F-1 car I wanted (besides, I'll just run the SS150 again until I get the F-1 :)).

Since I really like Subaru, I'm currently using the Subaru Impreza Rally Car Prototype for my rallying..

I'm just wondering: Has anyone any references for the Lancia Delta HF Integrale Rally Car?!? I'm considering buying it, if it's any good..

I've won races by as little as 0.001 sec., so I do know what a close race is. As I was saying before, I had a Toyota Celica Rally Car, in which I had to adjust the final gear ratio for the last race on the Smokey Mountain Race challenge, because the Impreza I was up against most certainly had a major power boost, and it had a top speed that was up to about 160 MPH on the straightaway. It might be possible to beat all the races in a stock 206, but I don't have one to play with... yet.

His words exactly are "I used a TME LanEvo (blue, not striped)

That indicates that there is a non striped, blue TME LanEvo.
If so, where did he get it? I don't remember a Blue TME with no stripe, I only remember a red, striped one.

Here's a question worth pondering:

How do get the last R-license test done? I've tried over and over, and cannot do it. I used to be a rally god when GT2 was the game of choice, but now I just plain suck. I could've smoked it before, but lost my edge in order to be a better grip racer. Now I can't nail the drifting on dirt thing. Anybody have any tips?
