Rally racing in GT6?

I am of the mind that Rallying in GT5 fell flat as well. It sucks. It's a sideshow. Something you try a time or two, say, neat, then move on. I really hope that the track editor allows for point to point and not just looped tracks. Like Glassjaw said and others alluded too, the track editor will really make or break the rally experience in GT6. Outside of that, and maybe the addition of a co-driver, but mostly just being able to make point to point tracks, will really do a lot to improve rally racing. I do wonder how the new tire and suspension stuff plays out in the dirt and snow too.

Calling it a "sideshow" is pretty spot on to me. It was nothing like rallying in the real world. Besides the stuff you mentioned above it really needs an Event Creator and the ability to race online with staggered launch intervals set by the host, and auto staging at the start line. It would bring timed stage rallying to life online.

I don't disagree that this would be nice, however, this can be facilitated outside of the game as well. It will be interesting to see just what PD has done with the online lobby.

So... here's the first post on this thread for quite some time. GT6 has long since passed, and was the rally content up to snuff? Heh.... nope.

I'm disappointed to say the least. PD have taken a smaller emphasis on rallying recently, which concerns me a little.
The Audi Quattro rally car and pikes peak cars were the only rally based vehicles that were added to the game. No new rally courses, no point to point rally events. No nothing. Having only a single, badly executed 'Dirt Trial' event in the career mode was quite simply an insult to all the GT rally fans.

Unless PD change this through future updates (though I doubt it), I guess it's back to whats left of GT5 for traditional GT rallying pleasure. It wasn't perfect, but man it was fun.

The question is, do you think GT7 will turn the tables and bring back some rallying emphasis? Assuming Kaz wants GT7 to be jam packed with things to do in the career mode, rallying is something he can't really ignore, considering its been quite a big component in previous GT entries.

Personally, I would like to see more rally cars made premium in GT7, alongside adding completely new ones. The Lancia 037 and the MG Metro 6R4 for instance.

All new original rally courses would be nice, but I think remastering the ones from GT4 would be more important. Grand Canyon needs to come back at least.

And point to point rally stages? They could potentially return in GT6, as part of the course maker update. Assuming we can make point to point courses like PD says we will. The Gran Turismo Rally could return under the Special Events category. Hopefully offering something a little more refined this time around.

If GT7 can do all of this, and fix the stupid dirt/snow wheel issues, we may finally have rally content we can really get our teeth into, rather than feeling downright depressing.

It'll be far easier for them to implement RX into the game than stage rallying.

RX would be a nice addition, but phasing out actual rallying would be a bad decision. There's potential if PD decides to refine the rallying that we last saw in GT5.
