Well... In Wiamea Bay, there are some pretty insane surf when it hits..

The biggest wave I've caught is a 15' wave... Now that's a 15' back which is about a 30' face...... It was straight, fast, and very bumpy ride!

I got on a 20 footer at Maroubra during winter last year - it was pretty heavy and I was a bit freaked by the size of the waves (after spending about 20 minutes getting out to the line-up!), so I was trying to pick something I thought I'd stand a chance of not getting killed on.

I'd just bought my current board, a Mike Stewart, which is really quick, so I managed to get out in front of the break, but the whitewater caught up with me after I stalled in the pit and rolled me around a couple of times.

Check this stuff out - this is from the Human Shark Island Challenge (in Cronulla, about 20km or so south of Sydney) in August last year - this is a reef break over shallow rocks, mind - this'll blow your mind...

I stood at the nearby cliffs and thought someone was going to get killed. One guy got crushed on the Saturday when the wave went over him and they took him to hospital after he lost feeling in his legs - he was back for more on Sunday!

Dude!!! Look at how thick some of those waves are?!?!?!?!? I mean, there's so much force there anyways, but.....

And this is why we respect Mother Ocean....
