Can't understand how can we give 1 to a Toyota AE86...
Look at it for what it really is, without any association to the drift craze and its presence in anime, and then treat fanaticism over it because of the drift craze and its presence in anime as a negative (as I do), and hopefully it'll be more understandable.

"Look at it for what it really is"

A beautiful Japanese car, with pop up headlights, light weight and a nice engine who revs at more than 8.000Rpm. It's also a race legend in Japan and even Europe. Besides, it was a nice rally car.

Need more facts?

nice engine
If you're lucky enough to have a GT-S. The more common SR5 and *shudder* DX were SOHC and carbed--4A-C's aspire to be junk. Its appearance is a matter of personal preference, and pop-up headlamps offer up more components to inevitably go wrong and increase resistance moving forward when they're in their upright position. As a car alone, I feel it warrants a 3, but I can't see beyond its popularity to give it that high a rating just as fanboys can't see beyond Initial D to accept such a low rating.

3/10 for the Clio--I'd take any of the iterations that followed before I took the first one.

We are talking about the AE86, not the AE85 (which is named Corolla SR5 in the US) so I don't see why we're talking about the 4A-C. I'm talking about the 4A-G, not the 3A-U or 4A-C, these aren't made to be fast or fun to drive (even tho they can be if you clutch kick a little bit haha).

And don't worry, I also hate the Initial D fanboys, but I'm sorry, giving a 1 to a Toyota AE86 just isn't right. It's like giving a 1 to a Golf Mark1 GTI or a Ferrari 250 GTO or a Mustang Mach 1, it's just not right..... But it's your opinion and I respect it (even tho it doesn't make any sence in my eyes).

Easy 10/10.

Edit: And here I always thought the AE85 in the US came with the 3A-U rather than the 4A-C used in the lesser AE86s. Still, it's what I rate it--and is an 80s Japanese pile of crap (used for effect) really on par with a $38 million Ferrari more than twenty years its senior? Oh yeah, newer's always better.

4/10. I prefer earlier examples, but at least that one (as opposed to the other one on this page) has both headlights in the same position and no silly snorkel.
