Just spotted this over on Pistonheads. Some of the control is crazy but it does look like 4 driven wheels watching closely.

They have some nice looking RC cars, they're 4wd alright looking at the way they don't have any steering angle most of the time. I'd like to see them trying with RWD surely there must be some one who can do it.

From what I've read they're on slippy plastic tyres which makes them near uncontrollable in RWD guise.

I've done a bunch of rc drifting over the years, mostly with cheaper cars. Actually just recently picked up an awd mini z and started drifting it (got a bunch of other people at our club interested when they saw it drifting too :P). I'm planning to get a nice 1/10 scale drifter this summer for outdoors when I can afford to.

It's technically possible to drift rwd rc cars, but extremely frustrating and not fun. The size and weight at play makes them incredibly hard to control and holding impressive angles is basically impossible, you spend all your effort and energy just hoping the car drifts and can't focus on links or tandems or anything. It might be more feasible with like, 1/5 scale or larger (if such a thing exists) but those are so ridiculously expensive that I doubt anyone will be drifting them any time soon.

What a lot of people do when drifting awd rc cars is put a one way differential in the front and gear it such that the real wheels turn faster than the fronts. This makes it behave much more realistically/like a rwd while drifting, allowing very nice looking drifts with smooth, held countersteer throughout.

I know what you mean. I used to be able to get drifts out of my RWD RC car but I was not able to do it consistently, I just thought there might be some specially skilled guy somewhere, that could pull it off and make it look like real drifting.

I have a Tamiya TA 05 which is a 4wd car but the gearing of the rear wheels is longer so more power at the rear wheels. this makes the car kind of lokking rwd.

There was already a thread about this, it was closed because it has nothing to do with GT5.

Before this gets closed!
RWD consistant and good looking RC drift is not possible.

AWD is the way to go but with an overdriven rear so that you have to countersteer all the time.
Btw to all people whinning about lack of customisation in driving games----> go RC drift, you can do whatever you want and its x100 times funnier.

not that much better...:sly: but it's great fun he's right. you can make your car look like whatever you want, it's great. and it is very good fun to drift with friends!

Did noone read my post, people just keep repeating what I already said lol.

Tuning rc cars is a blast! It's so much fun getting new parts, and driving with friends is definitely really fun. I got all into Mini-Z towards the end of last year when I found out there's an active community where I live, and the whole time I've just felt like it's GT but with real physical cars :P

You can get banned before the thread is closed...
Another RC Drifting thread
Another one
IBTL thread

I see no reason why we can't have an RC drifting thread in the drifting forum. You linked to one closed thread and one 7 year old dead thread.

On my RC forum we have a thread up for GT5 and noone has flipped out about it, it's relevant because people on the forum are also interested in the topic. Allowing a single RC Drifting thread to exist in the Drifting forum isn't going to make it any less of a GT5 drifting forum.

The 7 year old RC drifting thread exists in the "Cars" forum, generally referring to real cars. As we have no RC forum, an RC Drifting thread is just as out of place in the Cars forum as it is in the Drifting forum.

You guys seriously need to lighten up, I've never seen a forum near as over-moderated as GTPlanet. I like these boards a lot and there's plenty of good discussion, but I feel like the mods (some more than others...) get very worked up over very minor things. It seems significantly worse than when I first started reading these forums way back when. I don't think that forum users, especially those that have been around supporting the forum for a bit, should have to be afraid of moderation every time they click 'submit.'

Its not over Moderation though it is considered off topic since this forum is about GT5 Drifting.

Banned for what? Posting on a thread I haven't even opened!
Stop being an a$$hole over the forum, you're even not a mod, don't you have a life or something else to do instead of harassing people on every single thread that don't please you?

The next person making an IBTL (In Before The Lock) post will get a complimentary 2-day vacation at somewhere other than GTPlanet... because you won't be posting here during that time.

IBTL posts stupid and annoying and serve zero purpose. If you expect a thread will be closed, then don't bother posting in it. There's no reason to spam it up in the name of feeling smug about yourself.

And none of you jokers better tempt me by posting one in this thread. That is all.
I don't like harassing a lot of people about anything. I know that I am not a mod though trying to help you guys and at least warning you guys about things. GTP isn't that strict as you think it is.Though stating:
Before this gets closed
Doesn't help your cause. Yes, I do have a life. I don't always keep up with this forum as you think I will. I try to update everything as best as possible. I never hit the "Report" button on anything. The Mods come in here on their free will unless I need something locked, merged, or moved. I am probably sure that everything will be organized without me. I am sure that you guys don't need me. Someone is bound to do all this sooner or later.

Learn to read then, theres a few sentences after my "before the lock".
Seriously, I won't even need that 2 days ban stuff you're hinting me about as I'm not gonna go on that forum for some time.
Seems like video games are srsbzns here...

I'm fairly certain you didn't even read my entire post. Moderation is good, yes. I can understand the action taken regarding the AWD bickering that was pretty much consuming the drifting forum, that was an actual problem and was dealt with accordingly.

This, however, is a single harmless thread where people who enjoy drifting can discuss another form of it. Why be so hung up on everything having to be 100% related to GT? What's so awful about having more stuff to talk about? If this was a thread about snowboarding, then yes it would be off topic, but this does happen to be a drifting forum one way or another.

I should clarify, for the most part I have seen good moderation on these boards. Legitemate issues are dealt with accordingly and people aren't normally banned unjustly in my experience. However, in this subforum in particular, I have seen an excessive amount of moderation or threat thereof on people for simple spelling errors, typos, or even using colloquialisms that someone else was unfamiliar with.

One moderator in particular has come into the forum and personally attacked users without provocation of justification just because he can't stand drifting. This is not reading between the lines or taking anything out of context, he outright said it. A few of us actually stood up to him, I was unable to report the offending posts because by the time it had occurred to me to do so he had deleted all incriminating content from the thread himself.

Honestly, I have a perfect solution for the all the off topic issues. Rather than making the GT5 drifting forum a subforum of the main GT5 board, create a Drifting forum and make the game specific drifting boards stem off of that. Then we have a nicely organized area for people to discuss drifting, rather than being expected to dig through every other board searching for ancient threads just to try and start a conversation about RC drifting.

I always though In Before The Lock posts were pointless posts consisting of just 'IBTL', sometimes accompanied by a humurous pictures. Warren merely stated that he thought this thread was likely to be closed soon but he then continued the discussion. I don't see the problem.
