Finally after getting a new computer, finding some time to do it, and actually getting around to it, here is my Real Life Circuit de Monaco.

Map of the historic circuit

Looking from the start line on Bd Albert 1er down to Sainte Devote

Sainte Devote, turning right onto Avenue d'Ostende

Beau Rivage on the hill on Avenue d'Ostende
(Still hate buses...)

Main road turns left into Av. Princess Alice, we continue on Av. de Monte-Carlo towards the Casino and around turn 3, Massenet

Casino corner, the actual casino is to our right

Down the hill, over the bump, towards Mirabeau Haute. Mirabeau Hotel in the distance
Haute meaning "High" in French.

Around Mirabeau Haute is the Fairmont Monte Carlo and the slowest and tightest corner in F1

Close up view of the Grand Hotel Hairpin
Wonder why there's not Fairmont logo, maybe PD didn't get the rights to use it?

After crawling 'round the hairpin, no time to look at the elevation difference or the Mirabeau Hotel again, Mirabeau Bas awaits us
"Bas" meaning "Low" in French

Under the Bd du Larvotto Overpass

Portier, sidewalk, railing, water

Exit of Portier beckons the mouth of the Tunnel
Again, no Fairmont logo

About 1/3 the way through the tunnel

Aaaaargh, HRD means the exit of the strangley wide tunnel section

Exiting the tunnel we're welcomed by the Monaco Skyline

Nouvelle Chicane is where the Track goes along the waterfront, regular cars keep going on Bd Louis II towards Sainte Devote

Looking back towards the Nouvelle Chicane from Tabac

Tabac, with Sainte Devote top right-ish

Exit of Tabac looking towards Louis Chiron and the Swimming Pool section

Louis Chiron chicane, Louis was an Race Driver from Monaco
Louis Chiron Wiki Article

Turn 15, Piscine (Pool) on our right

This is where I get confused, I'd say the circuit goes through the tables and chairs on the right...

...And rejoins back at La Rascasse

Intersection of Bd Albert 1er, Av du Port, Av de la Quarantaine and Route de la Piscine which makes up turns 19 in a section called Anthony Noghès, the founder the of Monaco Grand Prix

Begining of Boulevard Albert 1er, Tunnel Rocher Palais exit on the left

Woo, Monaco done, hope you guys like it, does anybody else think the GT5 Version is much wider than real life, probably to make passing much easier.

So that's my Real Life Street Circuit Tour of GT5, I'll create an index topic, link to all these and see if I can get it Stickied.

Cheers.

Very interesting, for the most part they did a very good job. It's hard to say if they widened the track from these photos as we're comparing the circuit to public roads without Armaco and what not. I do think the photomode shots are from a lower perspective than the real life photos, giving it the impression of being wider.

Very nice job. Also remember that this is an old version and i don´t know if it is from GT3 or GT4 exactly and that´s why it is a little bit different because if you compare the real tracks with the ones in the game (SPA and Nurburgring) they made a great job, almost photo-realistic. And Monaco is close to it but not exactly, and you can see still the old textures/layers from GT4.

rFactor 2 has the old version from Monaco and it looks fantastic. The trees are exactly the same and the background are real photos of the place. (in GT3 or 4 version they made the same in the background but it looks wider as the track itself)

Hope they remade it for GT6 and the rest of the old tracks with the new realistic look as Route X, SPA and Nurburgring.

And you have to realize that the version in GT5 is a «make believe» version and its not licensed. Thats why its called Cote D'Azur and not Circuit de Monaco like it should be. So its only natural if it is not true to life. (wider and a few other diferences)

Two serious points here:

1. Absolutely groundbreaking work by Mithster18. You should be getting paid for your acumen.

2. What in the world is going on inside Polyphony studios? Are they assigning programmers and artists to recreate tracks based on 1/10th of the info provided in this post? I understand that the gt5 version of Monaco is a few years old, but the differences that we see in these pics cannot be explained by a short lapse in time. There are some impossible differences here.

Uh, those are actually extremely unimportant differences which have nothing to do with gameplay. If you want to argue that a race of historic machinery before 1973 wouldn't include the swimming pool complex or La Rascasse, and also the Nouvelle Chicane's all wrong, be my guest.

Do you distrust the money in your wallet because no two pieces of currency are alike?

ha. thats a good one. Just look at the pics titled: "Exit of Portier beckons the mouth of the Tunnel."

Are you kidding? Do you want to start with the giant structure on the right that is missing in gt5? How about the building straight ahead that looks nothing like the RL counterpart? Or maybe we could dive into that whole scene on the left- where there should be an ocean, and what we get is an Atari representation? Seriously, that water is microsoft paintshop circa 1996.

And don't get me started on the fiat currency in our wallets, which actually holds NO intrinsic value. That crap isnt worth the paper it's printed on. Read "The Creature From Jekyll Island" by G Edward Griffen if you care to be up on some real knowledge. Otherwise, sit back down in the back of the class, and stop being rude to people you've never met.

I don't think I was being rude at all, but as long as you think that way, I might as well...

Let's get one thing straight around here...you can tell us to sit down all you like, but moderators and administrators will send attitudes like yours to detention hall and we shall expel those who continually misbehave.

Got that? Good.

Anyhow, good night and welcome to GTPlanet, where nobody's happy until they've ripped PD a new one over trifling details.

And I'll keep your money if you really don't want it, but any other blather about the fed, Illuminati, re-distribution of wealth, gold standards, chemtrails, chupacabra, and the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster goes here.

I remember that even Formula 1 on the Amiga 1200 had a reasonably good representation of the Monaco circuit.

GT5's is good, but as is mentioned, looks a bit dated.

For the part where you say you got confused, the track does indeed run through the tables, the harbor itself was widened since PD modeled it (remember that the model of the track is probably almost 10 years old)

Looking at Tabac when watching F1 on the television, you don't realise it is just a section of armco that stops a car disappearing into the harbour.

Good stuff.👍

This track from GT4 not premium track too.
It is also not the actual track. It is only based on the GP track, not an exact representation. Why do you think the track is called "Cote d'Azur"?

The GT3/GT4/GT5 version of the track (which, as Scaff daan pointed out, isn't really the track), is about 50-100% wider (and in some places even more than that) all the way around.

But because of what Scaff daan said ringing true, that doesn't bother me so much as how incredibly ugly the track is in GT5, looking fundamentally the same as it did in GT3 whereas at least other tracks ported straight from GT4 were reskinned a bit.

Was that a First bus on Beau Rivage on the hill on Avenue d'Ostende lol I wonder if the bus's in Monaco have loud mouth junkies up the back on the way to Cash Converter or if thats just the UK lol Some great pictures there mate and it would very interesting to see how the track in real life and in GT5 compared had the pictures been taking on a Grand Prix weekend. :)

Very cool to see the comparison!! Thanks for putting the time in to do this, really enjoyed looking through it!!!!

^^this. That is why the GT5 version, isn't exactly true to life.

@OP; Good job man! 👍

Anyone else notice the SLR McLaren at the Casino Corner? Some gorgeous cars and ships around there

Nice job on the pics too ;)

A public apology is in order here. I may have came home from the bar last night in an extremely fiesty mood. Drunken GTPlanet posting is probably not the best thing to be doing, especially when it turns to angry rants with verbal spears aimed at super moderators! All apologies, Pupik, for being a complete ass. I should be banned for a week, no doubt. :nervous:

A small peace offering:

(skip to 5:20 to get right to it. It relates heavily to your avatar, and is absolutely mindbending)

Once again, I am sorry, and I hope you accept. -exept for the actual width of the track, the stuff I was spouting off about does little to affect gameplay. It's just kinda sad to look at these pics and basically realize that one of the most iconic tracks on earth has been givin the 'standard' treatment.

(sits down in the back of the class) :dunce:

Very well done Mithster, but not so well done by PD, IMO. This track isn't as well modeled as stuff like tokyo and most other city tracks realy.

A public apology is in order here.

No matter, I don't like to ban members, to be honest. Out of 200,000 real, live users (not spammers), I've made only a handful exit.

Orion is kind of amazing; it's one of the few constellations that the entire world can see entirely at some point in the year.
