Just wondering if any of you can recommend some good digital cameras that won't break the bank, but do a good job. I want the kind that can capture some video as well as take good quality pictures? Thanks :)

I think Olympus digicams are the best.

Yeah, they have wonderful results and a nice brand name(It's accepted as being a very good brand), but still, digital cameras are, and never will be, as good as 35mm cameras. I wish I had my own dark room....

Digital will be better in a few years. Some Digital SLRs are almost there in terms of quality.

Unless you want a print bigger than 11 x 14, I'm sure you wouldn't notice a difference between a high-end digital SLR and a good ol' 35mm.

THere are professional 6 megapixel cameras out there that take just as good of a shot as 35mm.

No, professionals use 50 megapixel cameras. Trust me, I ended up working for some guy that designs colour correction stuff.

I'm looking at one of the Olympus UZ cameras. I think it's the c-750. I like the 28-380mm optical zoom lens.

50? I highly doubt it. My dad is a pro photographer and his Digicam is about 6 megapixels. You aren't going to see anything higher than about 15 today.

Maybe you're thinking of a 50 Megabyte file produced from a digital camera.

Yeah. The high end Canon and Nikon Digital SLR are only doing 11MP. They're both working on a 14 or 15 currently.

For point and shoot digital I like Sony because they make damn good electronics. Second would be Canon because they make damn good optics.

If you want a digital SLR Canon has a new 6.2 (?) MP camera in the EOS Rebel line for something like $800. Sweet buy. It produces images close to the Canon D10 Digital SLR, but doesn't have the speed or options (or pricetag) of the better camera.

I have a Sony DSC-P10. It's a 5MP camera that fits in a shirt pocket and makes some mighty fine images. What I don't like about it is it can only save in two kinds of jpeg. Raw/Tiff isn't an option and that's something I'd really like to have. Oh well.

I would also mention consider finding a camera with as few moving parts as possible. That's one of the great things about digital. Automated moving parts require motors which drain batteries. Manual moving parts tend to weaken over time or even break off.

rjensen....50MP is a typo....thats an unbelievably massive image size..

the technology doesnt exist to have that in a hand held camera..

your probaly thinking of 5 mega pixel which is used by plenty of professionals...

in my experience, pixel size such as 3-4-5-6 mega pixels is no measure of picture quality...the zoom lens is what you pay for and your cameria is only as good as the lens....

one of our clients was a guy who holds exibihtions in NY London and Paris and although he prefers meduim format, he also uses digital and hes got an Olympus 6 mega pixel...cant remeber the model, but the quality is stunning...it has a massive zoom lens that cost £3,000 on its own....

i use a Sony Cybershot 3.2 Mp and iam very happy with the quailty...its cheap but high quality...
