Registry Problems (HELP ME YOU NERDS!)

I just used a problem called "PC Doctor" which scans your regisrty and checks for errors.

It found 215 errors in my registry.:(

The program is just a demo so it won't fix anything, all the demo does is scan and tell you what is wrong.

I was wondering if you guys new any free tools that will patch things up?

I would not place trust in a Registry "PC Doctor" program. . . The best tool to fix it up is start run regedit - but I don't suggest using it if you don't know the registry, then get yourself a Guide to your registry from www.regedit.com

After that, you might just have spyware or little keys from uninstalled programs in there. . . best not to fix it on your own to tell the truth

Just my WIndows XP Install CD. I usually do a clean install every year to flush the reg. out. Good luck, the registery can become a rather tangled mess in a short amount of time.

It said over 200 keys were corrupt or missing.

Nothing will load. Everytime I try to open a program I get an error box popping up telling me one of the hundreds of .DLLs are ****ed.

I have no idea what to do now. :(

if you have that many things missing and that many problems, are you running windows XP . . . Try running a repair install, if that doesn't fix it, back yo shiz up and FFR

putting on thinking cap. . . Well with no CD you can't re-extract the .dlls to fix that problem. . . You can probably download them from driverguides.com. . .

You are going to have to list every .dll and then you need to find where they need to be extracted to, which is normally C:]Windows\System or C:\Windows\System32

Any programs out there though that will scan my PC and tell me which I need and maybe where to get them?

That one program would have worked great if I didn't have to buy a registered version. :grumpy:

And in NOT nerd speak that means...? :)
How do I go about doing that?

pk. . . this is long. . .
hmmm
hold on I think I got something, it is not a program, but it will help. . .

Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition
In Windows
To extract files in Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition, use the System File Checker tool. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type sfc, and then press ENTER.
Click Extract one file from installation disk.
In the Specify the system file you would like to restore box, type drive:\windows\path\file (where drive is the drive where the Windows folder is installed, generally drive C, path is the destination of the file that you are extracting, and file is the file that you want to extract).
Click Start, click Browse next to the Restore from box, and then locate the Windows installation files. By default, in the OEM version of Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition the installation files are on the hard disk in the C:\Cabs folder. With a retail full version or upgrade version, you can also insert the Windows installation CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then locate the Windows installation files. The folder is named "Win9x". For example, if your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive is D:, the folder is named "D:\Win9x". For Windows 98, the folder is named D:\Win98.
Click OK, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

You download the file from driverguides.com and save them somewhere on your computer you won't lose them at. . . then run through those sets straight from microshaft. . . It should in theory fix this issue, but then again computers are possessed by this stupid monopoly that a gates owns and really should just have a micro-macro relocator put to his dome piece - Micro-macro relocator = 5 pound sledgehammer :D

Oh. . . where it says take it to D:\Win9x you need to put that in the folder you downloaded the file from. . .

probably not useful but dig through my tweaking thread - better yet, explain the reason you are going through your registry right now? Is your pc giving problems? Most of the time, it's ignorable ya know
