@VXRA co-worker of mine is selling his copy of Forza5. Says it's really good. I know it has far less tracks and cars. He swears it has a deeper physics and reasonably nuanced driving model. Worth it?
I believe the physics were simplified for FM6 and some grip added. Yeah 5 is good, grab it 👍

Is your coworker Speedster911?

Sorry, I don't understand that reference. Can you explain? I'm somewhat curious since your post got so many likes. It must mean something!

I prefer FM6's physics, but I also got into FM5 very late. So haven't played it nearly as much. That being said, there are a few cars in that game you don't get in the newer one. I'd say if it's under $20, it might be worth the purchase just to explore (and the Rewards points if you're so inclined). Otherwise, pass.

Oh yeah, he's giving it away for $16 as the box is a bit worn out but the disc looks fine. Could you perhaps give me a brief explanation of how F6 physics are better? I'm just trying to gauge people's opinions here. I like F6 a lot, but it is not quite what you experience in a good PC sim.

Also dont miss those RUF cars in FM5 while you there.

Will do! I love RUFs.

FM5 is a bit slim on content and exhausts it's novelty quickly, I think FM6 is a far better overall package. FM5's physics were very slidy so to say, some people enjoyed fighting to keep the cars on the track, but it has nothing to do with how should behave in the real world. FM6 is more grippy, and while it's worlds behind serious sims, it's at least drivable and enjoyable.

I see - so 5 feels slidey and unusually difficult to master while 6 has more grip. Not sure which one is more realistic. I suppose will have a go and see for myself, as adding grip does not necessarily lead to more realism. I've owned F6 for nearly a month now, and It's a good game. A semi-arcade game with good physics, I would say, and lots of toys to play with. ;)

Thanks! I was using a wheel, a TX one. It's funny I've been on that track since the days of GT2 yet I feel I just learned it for the first time.

Also I'm using normal steering, I am still confused as to what sim steering is trying to achieve. I used to change from time to time, when I'd get used to sim, normal felt wrong. When I'd get used to normal, sim felt wrong. I just gave up and left it at normal now.

By the way I wouldn't waste my time with FM5 either. Same thing, got to used to FM6 and Forza 5 feels way off to me now.

Yes, I see what you're saying - sim makes the steering faster, but unnecessarily fast on countersteering, which is not only unrealistic but has a tendency to throw you off when you're trying to carry your weight through a slide.

Well, it's $16 - so I might as well give it a go. If I like it, I might get Horizon 2 to round off the collection!

Is that right? I'm picking it up in a day or so. Will let you know how it feels. 👍

@Daffyboo well if the guy is selling it for 16 bucks then go for it. I guess the highlight will be having the Rufs.

The other highlight could be that Sebring has this weird blueish hue to it (the overall lighting) and there's a lot more sun right in your face, I dunno you might like it.

The other big difference I think are the sounds, it just sounds like everything is on steroids compared to FM6, and just as with everything I got used to the new sounds so FM5 now sounds over the top but back then it sounded spot on.

I'd make it so that you have to beat @Ialyrn 's time at the Nurb on the Lotus E23 and she's got a month to improve her time. By the end of it there'd be angry mobs with pitchforks and torches surrounding Turn 10's building.:D

If it was @Doodle, then saying that all hell will break loose would be a massive, massive understatement.

There was a member by that name that spent his entire time here that would go on and on about the merits of F5 over F6 without actually playing F6. When called out on it, he would just refer to having watched some Youtube videos.

Thats @Speedster911 .

You have Speedster and @Saidur_Ali mixed up with that part of your post however, though I think @Saidur_Ali has since played FM6? Least I hope he has, since he still comments very regularly on all things FM6.

Okay, I see.

I'm getting F5 soon enough as I'm eager to see how the transition has been between the two games. That might help me decide if I want to wait till next year for F7 or upgrade my PC to gaming standards by the end of this year. In case of the latter, I may get rid of The Box-1 so that I have extra cash to cough up for a powerful graphics card.

I'm not completely sold on Forza yet though it is a very fun game and once you get into it, you end up spending hours.

From the sounds of things, you already know. ;)

I do have the Ultimate Edition and also the G920. Haven't got around to setting up the wheel yet.

I've noticed similar "anomalies" while playing Forza 6 at a friend's.

The cars bounce and move around unnaturally like pinballs. Sometimes, the game slows down painfully to what appears to be 25 fps - either that or there's some radical slow-mo sequence going on. And then it fast forwards and returns to 60 fps as if trying to catch up.

I'm guessing this is what's called lagging? I haven't done much MP to date, so have to ask. Also, this would happen whether the "weak network connection" message shows up or not.

It wasn't an anomaly, I was just saying they had a pretty good wreck, smashed off the barriers and I went right between them. Not literally looked like pinballs.

Just a quick question- when you go to Rivals and put in a lap time, what does 'file' signify on the leaderboards? I get ABS, TCS and Auto but no idea what File means.

File depicts whether or not you're using someone else's livery and/or tune. If it has both halves of the little diamond thingy, it means that the particular player is using someone else's livery and someone else's tune as well.

I always thought the left half was if they're using any shared tune (their own or others), and the right half is if the replay can be viewed from the leaderboards. I could be wrong but I'm sure when I've seen the right half of the circle missing the replay has always been missing.

Yeah this is correct. If you go do a rivals time from your friends list, and if the right half of the circle isn't there, you can't chase their ghost.

Man...the Land Rover Defender 90 is so broken in this game...in a good way. Just built a C500 one for the heck of it and already placed 3rd in 3 races so far online. Stock tires, and an LS swap, does about 145mph, and corners surprisingly well. :)

According to leaderboards there are at least 2.25 million users that played Forza 6, 50k have driven VIR, so that's pretty good for a $20 add-on as well.

Does anyone else think the Carrera GT is maybe the best, most evil sounding car ever? :banghead:

I've head the Carrera GT revving and doing a high-speed drive-by. They got the sound down very well. They have for many cars, though some sound 'meh'.

Why are banging your head against the wall BTW?
