Release date thread rant

I was named and shamed too, i posted a twitter i thought MIGHT be relevant. However had i read the board rules, i would have seen that these speculations are against the rules and my post was moderated and rightly so. I personally think that it's a bit over the top but i see why it has been done, to stop masses of speculation threads clogging up the boards and just deal with facts.

I also see it like this though, i love to speculate as i'm sure many others do. And if the information posted might even have a tiny bit of info related to what i'm interested in, i what to hear it. The info may be way of the mark and completley wrong, but in a desert empty of information a drop will do.

Maybe we should have a poll on this?
Because a poll on the type of people who partake in forums has a hell of a lot to do with GT5, which is the sub-forum this thread is in.

This has gone so far off topic that its beyond a joke.

Dont be fooled into thinking i've given up because of other peoples opinions being better/worse.

Its the attitude i've given up on. Their seem to be 4 types of people on this forum, and theres a certain type that disregards free speech and open discussion.

What gave you the impression that you have a right to free speech here?

The AUP certainly doesn't grant you that, neither does any form of law.

You are posting on a privately owned web-site, what is allowable is entirely at the discretion of the sites owner and enforced via the AUP and staff.

Regardless of your agreeing with that or not, those are the facts as they stand.

As a general rule GT Planet more than allows free and open discussion, reserving the right to intervene if the AUP is broken.

To be blunt you have been here a month and now seem to be happy to state how the site should be run, and to be honest with you its not appreciated, GT Planet works and works well because we operate in the manner we do. We have policed the posting mess that has resulted from numerous releases of the GT series and know very well what can happen if things are allowed to get out of hand.

Its almost like having a secret shame, isn't it.

But remember, we have to keep it quiet or else character number 4 will come and tell us where stupid!

Posting that info is fine, as long as you do it in the thread that already covers the subject. It's only the creation of repeat new threads that is discouraged.

Do you really think that underhand digs at the staff are going to help out in any way at all?

By all means discuss why you think we are wrong on this subject, but I can assure you that should you try and make it a personal matter with any member, that will put you at odds with the AUP.

Thanks for taking time to respond, but seriously, the poll was meant as joke, obviously you didnt see that one.

Second, i have no problem with the rules of this forum, and if you read carefully i have said there are a type of people who dont like free speech. This is not an attack of the forum or the way its run, more an observation of certain people who post on this forum.

I have no opinion on how this site should be run. Its fantastic. Did i start this thread??

For **** sake, im not taking digs at the staff, catch yourself on. If you read my post properly you would notice i would generally class staff as character one.

That's my understanding of it too. We have a thread for release date speculation already (still open), we have a thread asking people not to post any other release date threads, and we also have a thread pointing to both threads in the GT5 forum. Now we even have a thread about discussing the value of these threads, as STILL we get people posting new threads telling us that Amazon.com have set a release date, despite no OFFICIAL information from Polyphony Digital or Sony.

DJW_GT & Nomino, famine has got a point. Maybe its that scary dog and purple text that scares you.

Anyway, so when is this game getting released?

Anyone fancy playing fill in the blanks?

Tesco : 04/12/09
Play :
Gamestop :
Game :
Argos :
IGN :
Game :
Asda :
Dabs :
Amazon : 29/12/09
EBGames.com.au: 2010

Hehe

I was gonna suggest the same. Rather than a new thread ever time soneone sees a potential release date, just have one on-going thread where you add your 'source' (i.e. Amazon) to the list.

I didn't, mainly because of the tone of the rest of your posts in this thread.

Keep in mind that I can't see your face as as such tone is impossiable, next time throw one of these in :), they help out in situations like this.

I apologise if that was not the focus of your comment, however again it did read in that way to me.

I don't believe I claimed that you started this thread?

Calm down and watch the language please.

I have also merged your two posts together, here at GT Planet we would rather you use the edit function to add to a post, rather than post repeatedly.

Thanks

You beat me to the edit, lol. Apology out to any staff who think i was taking a dig at them, trust me, i wasnt.

I did post the twitter link in that speculation thread, it was deleted. I did also make a thread as well and that was rightly so deleted.

Dont get me wrong i'm more than happy with the way this place is run. I joined nigh on a year ago and my first thread broke the rules. I'm an idiot! i should have read the board rules and didn't, no excuses.

I think a lot of people would really like this but it is clear that just as many are against it, realistically too many arguments would arise from this, and it would be a pain in the backside for the staff to moderate. So maybe better just keeping lists to ourselves.

If any staff can think of a way we can have a list on this forum, controlled in a similar way to the 'unnoffical car list' it would be cool.

All it would take is someone to set-up such a thread and take responsibility for updating the first post of that thread when people post new news or rumors.

I would, but its against the rules.

Only thing is, i doubt it would open too long to cause any hassle, it obviously will die as soon as PD/Sony give us an Official date.
Maybe it could be kept as a record of how accurate/wrong the dates are for future releases.

Since when?

It's not "against the rules" to post a release date thread. If it were, people would be getting warnings/infractions/bans. But they aren't. So... what's the problem?

Incidentally, I agree with your concerns.

Firstly, Sony's official release date would render the thread functionally useless (unless PD fail to meet it again - but then Sony would make a new official release date, and so on).

Secondly, all the sources of "release dates" change them repeatedly and often. You'd have to check them ALL every day and chronicle every change... Which is too geeky even for me.

Not necessarily. Call it something like the 'Ever changing GT5 release date source' and include links to the various websites (Amazon, Play, Gamestop etc) then you turn a largely redundant thread into one that provides potentially useful information to your fellow forum members.

I'd run it past a staff member first if i were you, just to be on the safe side.

Geeky i am. It'll give me something to do when visiting this site daily to find out nothing has really changed from the day before! :)

I've always found it hilarious how quickly several members respond to negativity but could generally take a couple of hours, or even a day or two to respond to someone asking a question or otherwise.

The way I see it, there are a few reasons one would post a thread such as to get mentioned in the shame list:

  1. They don't read stickies and have no idea that there is no official release date or that shop dates don't count. If one was to post a thread because of this, they also wouldn't read the "shame list" beforehand.
  2. They are trolling. Obviously, a troll wouldn't care about the list and would be glad to get on it.

Now, there has to be more reasons than this because the world isn't polar. But most threads that get on the shame list are probably created with a little of one or both of these reasons behind them. And that just seems to make the list pointless.

There are other ways of preventing duplicate or useless threads. On the Ubuntu forums, after titling your thread it automatically searches for similar threads and recommends one of them instead of making a new one. GTPlanet could also have a list of "things not to create a thread about" inside the thread creation page.

My two cents. I am no fan of "the list" sticky, but do not mean to attack anybody personally.

Actually, name and shame-threads idea could be developed even further.. how about giving the prematurely overjoyed geniuses their own user group, and a tag to match it? :D

The problem is GT5 became a bit of a joke in the game's industry quite some time ago, disspointment after dissapointment has led to an oversensitivity to any criticism.

As i've been named and shamed twice I feel as though I should comment.

The first time was simply me not reading the sticky thread. However I must admit the second time that I was named and shamed annoyed me because I actually started the thread with the intention of discussing whether GT5 was actually finished rather than the release date. Still im not bothered now because I post in various forums and always respect the decision of the moderators.

I would like to add that the mods could take into consideration the circumstances before naming and shaming. If a new member joins and makes such a thread then maybe just deleting and sending a PM to the member would suffice. If they repeat this in the future then name and shame them.

The reason im saying this is GT planet is a way of meeting the GT community. If a new member recieves this treatment it may harm the image of GT planet and the GT community.

If you can provide me with a good reason why and how ever-changing speculative release dates, from any and every source on the internet, will help anyone in the absence of an actual official release date, I'll think about it.
hello. im new

you could do a "guess how many jelly beans are in the jar" type deal. the person who finds the source with the correct release date first wins a cookie.
