Renovo Coupe ...

-Rant inbound-

I hate it. All it is is an insult. It's environmentalists spitting in the face of Shelby lovers. It's an insult to everything American. A V8 belongs in the Daytona Coupe. Not a bunch of batteries. It's the most offensive car I have ever seen. And besides the fact that it's offensive and that it's green and that it's a complete abomination, it also doesn't make any sense for a company to sell this car. You can't argue well against that. I mean, who will buy it? Shelby enthusiants won't buy it, obviously. They want something with sound and a manual transmission. Electric car enthusiasts? Why would they want it? Why would they have any interest in a 60's racecar knockoff, a car from the past, when they are obsessed with innovation and the future. Just look at the interior:

What environmentalist would want that when they can get a comfortable, super high-tech interior found in the Tesla Model S. Which I don't hate because there's nothing offensive about the Tesla. But when I first saw this car, posted by Top Gear Magazine on my Facebook feed, the first words out of my mouth: "What? No...no! Wa-NO!" But back to the point I made earlier, I really don't see the purpose of this car. I think modernized old cars are nice, like the Singer and the Bronco. But the makers of those cars didn't screw around with the car's engine. They kept the spirit of the car alive. But this? This electric Shelby has no soul. The V8 that once led it to great success in racing is gone, replaced by a silent gearless electric drivetrain. And I don't care how much more power it makes; it's wrong.

I don't car who you are. I don't care what your view of electric cars is. If you think electricity is the future, fine. But this is a stupid car and you know it. It's less cool than the Devel Sixteen because even the Devel appeals to little kids. This appeals to NOBODY. It's a horrible idea that I want to die forever. I wish a sinkhole would open up under Renovo's factory while nobody is there and destroy this atrocity forever. That's what should happen when you screw with America. And don't anyone here start whining about Americans and V8's because this time you know we're right.

I hate this car. I hate it. It's the worst idea ever. And there's no other way I can stress that point more, so I'll stop here.

I was indifferent to the idea of an electric 60's sports coupe, but something has just made me really love it. How weird is that?

Wheels are a dreadful choice though :yuck:

I wonder what Carroll Shelby would say if he still was among us...
This car is nice, with a classic design but if original, not a Shelby Cobra Coupe copy...

That video was clearly copied from Porsche's videos. Just listen to the guy's voice, it's almost exactly the same.

I like how it pisses off the people who don't understand how truly awesome EVs actually are.

It has 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque, which can be used the second you step on the rheostat accelerator.

I know the figures, and I don't care. If Renovo designed a good powertrain they should have gotten off their lazy *** and designed a body for it. NOT ruined a great American racecar. I bet it handles like crap with that power.

I love it, a combination of classic looks and modern electric power. Just a shame they didn't put better wheels on it.

Edit: And it clearly pisses people off, so it's good for a laugh as well.

It's like putting an LS7 in a Lotus. Oh wait...

Meh.

I'll take a Factory Five Type 65 over this and go just as fast @ roughly 1/10th the cost.

I simply do not understand how someone can rant so much about something that does not matter.

Completely ruined it. If they want to make and sell an electric powered Daytona coupe, let them go ahead. It's not like they have the exclusive use of the Shelby Daytona shape for their dastardly electric power abomination. You can still get them with a V8 too.

An the design is used under license of Carroll Shelby...

PS: I didn't expect this to become so viral.

I quite like the idea of an electric Daytona Coupe. It combines the beauty of the past with that classic shape, with the technology of today.

500hp and 1000ft lbs are impressive figures.

Basically you've taken a straw poll of one, and decided that there is no market for this car. Top job.

It appeals to me, so my straw poll suggests this will be THE MOST POPULAR car of all time. Oh no wait, it won't be, because I'm open-minded, so I appreciate that not everybody shares my opinion.

If only Renovo had listened to you first, then... they probably would have ignored you and continued to do what they're doing anyway.

I like classic cars, but modern technology fascinates me. Call it a hunch, but I'm not the only one who has this opinion. A beautiful car with a modern (and hugely powerful) drivetrain sounds pretty exciting to me.

So are you, or anyone else here, going to buy one? No, you won't, you'll buy something that makes more sense.

Right, your opinion MUST be superior because you have an open mind... and you definitely aren't appreciating my opinion right now. I'm sure plenty of people will like it, but none of them will buy it.

What company would listen to the opinion of some random guy on the internet?

Funny how your Avatar is patriotic and about horsepower but an american car with tons of power is blasphemous .

I actually think their limited production will sell decently for what it is. It comes down to this, (as only the very wealthy would be able to purchase one) if you had the money and wanted a sporty electrin driven performance car would you buy this, the Tesla Roadster or the SLS AMG Electric Drive? I'd choose this on style alone. Also  at you telling people they can't argue your opinion and meeting anything but opposing thoughts.

The other 2 cars existing at all suggests your wrong on people that like electric vehicles not being able to like iconic designs from the past as well as liking future tech.

Wrong, an American car with it's engine and soul removed is blasphemous. Electric cars are also incredibly dull; sure they can do burnouts, but who wants to hear just squealing tires without an engine note mixed in? I don't.

If I drove up next to a Shelby Daytona at a light, I would be very excited... but then disappointed to hear nothing at all when it starts driving. Wouldn't you rather hear a loud engine? That's mainly what makes electric cars uncool. The silence.

So are you, or anyone else here, going to buy one? No, you won't, you'll buy something that makes more sense.

No, I can't afford one. If I could, I might be interested.

Right, your opinion MUST be superior because you have an open mind... and you definitely aren't appreciating my opinion right now. I'm sure plenty of people will like it, but none of them will buy it.

No, I was using hyperbole to emphasise how poorly thought out your argument was. If you'd given a reasonable case as to why there may not be a market for the car, rather that shouting "I HATE IT THEREFORE EVERYBODY ELSE MUST TOO", then I would consider your point more willingly.

What company would listen to the opinion of some random guy on the internet?

On this evidence, you've proven it's probably for the best that they don't.

"Uncool to you" and "dull to you" is what you're missing here. I enjoy a nice raspy exhaust note as well but that doesn't fit the bill for a lot of people in the world. Imagine the persons face when your sitting there revving your loud engine and they leave you where your standing with a big smile on their face. You're happy with your car, I bet they'd be happy with theirs.

Many people love the sounds of cars some couldn't care any less.

Some just love being different. Some will love it's performance. Some may just be the environmentalist you mentioned but grew up loving the design of this car.

I think more people haven't switched over to full electric simply because most electric vehicles so far have looked odd to many.

This isn't the first guzzling classic that will be sold as an electric and won't be the last. In fact I bet electric sports cars will be popping up more and more. So there must be a market for it. You need sound then they can pump it through your speakers :D.

Pissing away energy on way more torque than necessary + Wasting tires (and the petroleum products contained within) just for the fun of it + Lack of noise = Environmentalism?

Yes, but not the overrated cacophony of a cross-plane V8. Sorry.

It's the bajillionth Shelby kit car except this one has an electric motor. Better try to pass this off as a bespoke brand!

As far as the "honor" of the sacred fiberglass Shelby replica... People have put all kinds of stuff into Shelby replicas. There's no insult here, there's no blasphemy. This body is the white bread for this type of work. Get over it.

And dude can you stop giving all of us who like pushrod V8's a bad name? It's really tiring...

I'd just like to submit to the popular opinion around here that none of the "Murican Vee Ate" crowd actually own a decent American V8. Those of us who do are much more open-minded.
