Replace License Tests With Autocross and Karting.

I am just getting started in Autocross, I realized that you have to be precise to the inch to achieve a fast time. A lot of racing drivers have started in Autocross, because it teaches you the basics of driving fast, and to do it precise as well.

Karting teaches you the basics of being in a racing environment, self awarness and door to door action. I think this will be much more affective to teach players the basics, rather than the license tests. It will be less of a drag for most people too.

It is too late to implement this now, GT6 is just around the corner, but for the next installment, they should totally do this.

For those of you who have been living under a rock on don't know what Autocross is, here is a video by Road & Track explaining it.

Let me know what you people think:tup:

I think racing etiquette needs to be taught in the license tests, for sure. Whether this be through the license tests as we know them now or through methods you've suggested doesn't really matter.

Although Kaz has said that he doesn't see online as a main focus (God knows how he came to that conclusion since it seems to be what's keeping his company's game alive) it's a necessary skill to make the online experience more enjoyable.

Karting if implemented properly could help teach these abilities but I think it would be so reliant on better AI that I don't expect to see anything to this degree until the next instalment.

I don't think autocross has much to teach that karting or the current license tests can't; but as another mode? sure.

Good point, but Autocross has a lot to teach.

Funny, I was thinking of how great it would be to have Autocross. It's a lot of people's first foray into competive driving. You could design your own courses, have friends match times etc...I've dabbled in it and learned a lot about driving dynamics. Somebody will have to chase cones though!

I personally love the licenses, but hope that autocross and kart racing are back in GT6 too.

That Coffee Break stuff in GT4 was awful. Did not teach me anything that was actually beneficial to racing on proper courses that the license tests didn't already teach.

Trying not to hit cones in a car park would be much more fun for the low budget weekend warrior in real life. For a video game, I think PD can take a bit more of an advantage of the virtual possibilities of a racing game than creating unimaginative cone courses.

I have been doing autocross since 2005. I would like to see autocross in GT6, specially where we can build our own track. But i would not want autoX/Karting to replace license tests.

Trying not to hit cones in a car park ...

^Very interesting how you word that. I would be more inclined to call it "trying to get around a course as fast as possible", but whatever makes sense to you is fine.. :sly: EDIT: Ok I now see that you were talking about that GT4 clip, and not Autocross in general. I think. In which case you are 110% correct, that was awful. The contrast between that GT4 coffee break clip and the video of real Autocross posted in the OP is astounding. Apologies if I made such a mistake.

PD could easily model some of the parking lots to these racetracks (like Willow Springs) and set up some legitimate cone courses. It would be very cool if there were a few parking lot templates and we could Create our own Autocross courses using the shiny new Course Creator..

I am also a HUGE proponent of being given the ability to create our own license tests. Sometimes you just want to work on a certain section of a track, you know? I would love to set up a start and finish line around the Ford Chicanes at Le Sarthe and just go to work on them for an hour. No need to slog through a 5 minute lap on that gargantuan track just to hone your skills at that tricky section..

👍

I hope that they fix the steering in the karts to give us a little more travel before oversteer. Maybe have some karting coffee breaks with the license tests for something different, fun and a lighter tone for those who are new or may be struggling in the license tests.

I like the licenses the way they are, for the most part.

I'm not a big fan of karts or cones.

If both were left out entirely, I wouldn't miss them.
JMO.

Why replace License Tests?

Just keep all. Give people a choice on how to play their game. Some like the License Tests but not Autocross and vice verse. That way I think will keep more people happy in the long run and also those who initially don't like Autocross/License Tests may try them out in future and like the other or maybe not. Who cares, it's their game.

But my point is give us a choice rather than take something away and cause some people not to be happy because of things taken out. It's not as if there isn't enough room in the game for all.

Absolutely not imo.

Autocross is like a sport itself. I don't see how it can help people learn to drive properly on a track. It may help with car control and steering but beyond that, the fundamentals of driving line, slow-in-fast-out, braking points, and such that the license tests emphasize can't be taught with autocross.

Last I check, you have to be an experienced driver to do autocross and license test are just the basics so I don't think you can replace between the two. If we're talking about adding on, then maybe. Replace? Absolutely not.

As fond as I am of karting, it's not really the best way to learn to drive in GT. Karts are by their very nature very nimble and responsive, requiring far too much accuracy and quickness on the part of learning drivers to be of much benefit. I know some very good sim drivers that never could get the hang of karts. You'd be far better off starting in econoboxes than karts in this game.
