Resident Evil 4 Review

Resident Evil has been around since the PSX was first introduced on the market in 1995. Its new edition of gore, violence, and action-packed fighting spawned a new generation of the gamer. Since Resident Evil's welcome release, it has made over a half-dozen titles for your pleasure. Even though all of those have not gotten the same attention paid to them as the first Resident Evil, but they have been decently fun and engaging. Unfortunately, Capcom, who was a well-known brand during the humble Dreamcast era, has died down on its steady diet of good games. In January 2005, Resident Evil 4 was the one of the first of the series to come on the GameCube. Needless to say, its one hell of a way to start.

Graphics

Nintendo Gamecube has probably been the least visualistic in terms of quality of the three major consoles. According to some, its about a third of quality compared to the XBox, and two-thirds compared to the PS2. Resident Evil 4, is once again, a great way to start out the new year for the GameCube. The blood and gore is as top-notch as ever, especially in the dark, frightening look it has all-around. The zombies, fire, characters, and the animals are as realistic as they would be on the other two major consoles. Capcom has always dazzled us with these kind of graphics, really starting with the Dreamcast, and this is just another one of those eye pleasers we have all grown to know and love.

Gameplay

Even though I have started this game more than ten times, I think it is probably save to say that you will get about twenty-five hours of gameplay through this pleaser. Even though I didn't think there was a need for two discs, I feel as though that this game is one of those that can be played over and over again, which I will explain later. You are Leon Kennedy, a returning favorite who goes back to Raccoon City to fight more zombies, ladies with pitchforks, and men with chainsaws than ever before. You are sent there to recapture the president's daughter, Ashley Graham, who has been stolen by some mysterious religious clan with special powers. You battle dogs with rabies, find out the surprises in the treasure boxes, and items and item boxes for storage, then I guarantee that this will keep you company for a few weeks to come.

Sound

Brilliant sound. So silent that you can hear a pin drop sometimes, and so loud that you can't even here yourself think. Unfortunately, due to the scare factor, you never have the time to relax, but that isn't bad at all. The chainsaws will scare you in two ways: one, it will scare you because it so eerilly real, and two, it is a chainsaw! Would it scare you?

Replay Value

Since I have played Resident Evil 4 for the first time a few months ago when a friend introduced me to it, I must say that playing it for days on end is a good way to represent your replay value. There are six different chapters with three or four different sections of it, so I really respect Capcom now for making a game that has kept me as hooked as it has been to this game that hardly any other game has.

Overall

It's saddening to know that this is the last time one of the Capcom producers will work with this franchise, but boy, I think this is a great farewell game for all to enjoy. Now, I have played a lot of action-thiller based games. I have played anything from the Grand Theft Auto series, which is good, but not astounding, and the Halo series, which is repetitive after long whiles, but is still good to play and own in your collection as well. Resident Evil 4 blows all of the competitors in the dust, and it is gonna be a long road upwards if any game plans to take this title off of the high chair anytime soon.
