Reuters Announces Ferrari Economy Car

MARANELLO (Reuters) - The Maranello-based exotic sports car company recently decided to combat rising costs by entering the economy car market, the company announced on Wednesday. "We need to create a more diverse line of automobiles that can address the needs of all our customers", remarked Guiseppe Lorini, head design marketer. Lorini added, "Rest assured though, this will be no ordinary economy car. Our 4 cylinder engine will still produce nearly 300 horsepower."

Car enthusiasts are not ecstatic about the new Italian stallion. "Just what are they thinking?" is a common complaint surfacing on internet message boards. Even more surprising is that red isn't an available color. "It's a disgrace to the Ferrari name," mentions the user with the moniker "Ferrari4EVER".

The new model is called the Rosso, Italian for 'gas.' It is slated for production beginning March 2006, and is expected to deliver over 30mpg.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!two11!!

Rosso is Italian for red, not gas.

Well .. according to dictionary.com/translate 'benzina' is gasoline and 'rosso' is red.

I've heard it go 2 ways, depends which part of Italy you are from.

Let's ask an Italian...

Question: 'Tell me, TheWizard, does Rosso translates (in English) into gas, fuel, gasoline, or anything else than Red?'

Answer: 'No. Period.'

The only way we (used to) use the term 'Rossa' was to distinguish from 'Benzina Rossa' (or 'Super') and 'Benzina Verde' (or 'Unleaded'). The 'Super' (gasoline with lead content) has been banned since January 1, 2002. Now we only use Unleaded and Diesel.

Rosso by itself means nothing but Red.

And I could spot this was an April's Fool joke from 1 Parsec away. Ferrari that makes Econocars? Please! :D

When that day will come, I will personally go burn down the company ;)

The Wizard.

You mean it actually does have a connection to gas?

This thread reminds me of NFSCheats ... I remember a few years back when I was into Need For Speed games, and Porsche Unleashed was recently released. For an April Fools joke, somebody had PShopped some Porsche Unleased box art to make a Ferrari Unleashed game. He had people going on that for close to a week. Every day people would come back to that thread and go, "OMG! This game is going to be so cool when it is released!" And they were asking all sorts of details about this "game". And the guy just kept feeding them ****, and they kept eating it. That's when I realized how thick most NFS'ers are, and I got into GT. :D

Kinda OT, but it reminded me of that and gave me a laugh. It would be kinda cool if Ferrari made a car like that. Even if it had less horsepower, it would compete with the Porsche Boxsters and Audi TT 3.2's of the world. :) Bring back the Mondial 3.2!

As long as it didn't look like that blue thing posted a little higher up ^^^

Alright, maybe I didn't make it clear enough for you the first time.

Rosso BY ITSELF only translates to RED.

In the expression I provided (Benzina Rossa) it is used as an ADJECTIVE, following the word BENZINA (the only thing that translates into GAS).

Benzina Rossa, which is (was) also known as Super (that's how we used to call it for short), translates (literally) into: Red Gas.

Now quit trying to teach ME how to speak Italian, since you don't see me teaching anybody how to speak English.

Having spoken Italian and having lived in Italy for 25 out of 25 years, I think I know Italian slightly better than you do.

If you want to go ahead and say something else smart, just to have the last word, please do so. This is my last word.

Please tell me you havn't got all the plastic body kit, massive exhaust tip, 18" alloys, and sprayed red calipers. 👎, its just where i come from if someone says that about there corsa thats what it usually means 👎

Whoa dude, you took this WAY too seriously. I made up crap on the spot, I don't really think I am better than Italian than you - I was obviously pretending!

Personally I think it's pretty cool that 'rosso/rossa' does have a connection with gas :)

Edit, sono un idiote, non ho visto che lui già lo ha detto.:dunce: I'm not even sure if what I just said makes sense anymore:(

I apologize for being a 'little' too rude and jumpy ;) :D
Yeah, I took it a little too far, didn't I? :embarrassed:

Anyway, no hard feelings. I was just trying to say that 'rosso' is just an adjective, just like 'red' is in English. Adjectives can be associated to many words, but not for that particular reason they can take their (the words themselves) place. That was all I was trying to say. Rosso is not a substitute for benzina, it's just an adjective that when used in sync with benzina, means 'gas with lead contents'.

Don't worry about this story anymore, I didn't have anything personal against you. I just had a bad day :scared:

LOL! Don't worry about it, dbartucci. Check my reply in the Italian thread (link in my signature), by the way. Your Italian seems pretty good 👍

Only, idiota would be the correct spelling. The rest of the sentence is quite correct, even if a preferable word order would be: 'non ho visto che lo ha gia' detto lui'.

Hope your trip to Italy is good :D
Have fun and make sure you don't miss on going to Rome and Venice.

EDIT:

TheWizard, you been to the Galleria Ferrari? Fiorano?

Unfortunately, not yet. But it's on my list of 'things to do before I die' :D
Another thing that's on the same list is: owning a Ferrari
And I don't care if I'll have to die trying to get one, but one day I will. Mark my words.

Anyway, I wonder how they managed to get all that power with 4 cylinders.

Kenneth. Have you ever heard of a Mitsubishi Evo VIII MR FQ-400? That's a 405 bhp 4 pot car. It's really not a hard feat. Even the standard Evo VIII has '276'bhp.

Ah sorry, i just spotted you're American. Therefore, to get any where near 300bhp you need at least 8 cylinders and silly amounts of displacement ;)

Just joshing with ya

I saw that. :sly:

We made need 8 cylinders, yes, I agree. At least we get twice the torque at 1/2 the rpms. :sly:

No matter how many times I read comments like this one, it's always amusingly funny (and true, so true!) 👍 :D

The Wizard.

I've always wanted Ferrari to make a large-displacement engine just for the heck of it. Corvettes have more litres than an Enzo, so let's throw that away. Let's make an 8.0 litre V12 and twin turbocharge it, make it the successor of the F40, make it weigh next to nothing, mount the engine behind the seats and call it a day, eh? ;)

Yeah, that would be quite cool :D
Except for the turbocharge part. Ferrari's are naturally aspirated, by tradition (give or take a very few). The horsepower comes from the engineers, designers, and the skills of all the people that work hard to make one of the top quality cars in the world.

Not to start a war about turbocharged vs naturally aspirated, but if you think about it from an engineering point of view, everything else held constant (horsepower, displacement, number of cylinders, configuration of such cylinders, etc.), the engine that is naturally aspirated is designed and crafted way better than the one that needs to be turbocharged in order to have the same output.

In other words, if you took the turbo off from the engine that is turbocharged, then it would have less horsepower than the one that was naturally aspirated to start with (provided, like I said above, that they have the same amount of horsepower at the beginning).

Taking an 8 liter engine and sticking a turbo in it is an easy way to make it have 1000+ horsepower (see Bugatti Veyron). Doing the same thing with a naturally aspirated 8 liter, would take the best engineers in the world. I am not saying Ferrari could do it. I am just saying that the amount of work, skills, development, design that goes into a high power naturally aspirated is way above what goes into obtaining the same results by sticking however many turbines one can fit :D

I hope Ferrari can keep kicking everybody else's @ss without resorting to cheat ;)

EDIT: Now I want to see how long it takes MrktMkr1986 to jump in here and say:

Turbo...

The Wizard.

Actually, in a recent issue of one of the car magazines I read(can't remember which one right now), a Ferrari spokesman said that they are seriously looking into turbocharging cars in the near future. So, who knows, we may see an F60 along the lines of what iceburns described.
